I waited until I heard Alpha Damien leaving the premises, his roaring engine a sign of his fury and his speed as the noise gradually disappeared into the night. Then, still hearing Amelia whimpering through the walls, and knowing she was awake, I knocked once on her door and sneaked inside.
She looked up at me from her blanket burrito, with the covers tucked in on her on all sides, with only her face exposed. Tears streaked down her cheeks and her face was red from crying. It was a miserable sight, which gave me great pain to witness.
