“You’ve been here too long, Annette,” he said. “I’m going to take you back to the palace now.”
Annette’s good spirits dimmed slightly then, but she nodded and, turning, went with Jake, who kept a protective arm around her.
I should have been happy to have the Amelia-imposter out of my life again, but instead, I just felt empty.
Trying to forget her and the hole that was now inside me, I returned to the room. Stacy was looking around, as if searching for something or someone. When she couldn’t find whatever it was, she looked back to me.
“Daddy, where’s Mom?”
Amelia’s POV
As pleased as I was that Stacy was doing well, I now found myself filled with dread at the thought of having to return to the Alpha King’s palace and the Alpha Ball. And to Ian, who would surely be waiting for me.
