Chapter One: The betrayal
Ida's POV
Today's gonna be one hell of a day.
I chanted as I drew my hoodie over my head, stepping into the school premises. I headed to my locker, inwardly praying not to be noticed by the pompous snobs around me.
‘Did you hear about the party Aiden is throwing tonight?’
‘Yes, the whole school heard about it! But only the most elite are invited, thank God my Dad is the beta of the pack.’
‘He’s going to announce his mate tonight as well, it's the first rite after his crowning as alpha, she'll be his Luna!’
‘I know, wish it were me!’
‘Are you bonkers? He has a girlfriend.’
I scoffed as I overheard the conversation between two girls, inadvertently drawing attention to myself.
“Did you just scoff at us? You blind bat?” Lucinda, one of the girls spat, her voice dropping with venom.
I stood my ground, attempting to mask the fear clawing at my insides.
“I wasn't scoffing.” I replied, trying to keep my voice steady.
She sneered and gestured to the other girls and as they began to close in on me, I felt the terror set in but the bell rang and I swiftly grabbed my books and bolted for . On my way in, I bumped into someone and my glasses fell off.
“Watch where you're going blind batty!” A male voice hissed.
I immediately scurried for my glasses since class was starting soon. I heard a mocking laughter and pursed my lips.
“Here, take them.” A too familiar voice offered.
For a moment, I froze in position as a stirring erupted from the pit of my stomach, accompanied by a growl-my wolf was aroused. Before I could react, my glasses were perfectly positioned where they belonged and my blurry vision cleared to confirm my doubts.
“A-a-aiden?” I stammered.
Silence, then my nostrils flared up. A mixture of lavender, Petrichor, cider and pine eroded my sensory nerves.
“Come on Aiden, teacher's on the way!”
Aiden took a meaningful look at me and smiled-ruining every fiber of control in me then turned around and went into the class. I came back to my senses as I saw the teacher approach and rush into the class.
For the rest of that day, I had my hoodie over my head, not daring to look up and avoiding bumping into Aiden. It was no news that he's the most populous and handsome boy in school -an heir to the throne and the next alpha of the pack.
We've been classmates for years but never for once has he noticed me, who was I kidding? Nobody notices the speech impaired blind ugly girl. The teachers gave us this huge pep talk about the future and how we should make our last day as a high schooler count.
I was relieved when the final bell rang and as usual, I had my hoodie covering half my face and headed for
“Excuse me please.” I muttered, barely audibly.
Gwen-a social butterfly and queen bee of the school guffawed as she stared at me with pure disgust. I ignored this and was about to leave when Lucinda thought it worthy to mention our unpleasant encounter that morning.
“When we mentioned Aiden, she scoffed and sneered at him, totally disregarding and making a mockery of us.” Lucinda lied.
Gwen frowned deeply and grabbed me by my hoodie, other students passed by and none did a thing, no one dared to oppose her-the female version of Aiden.
“Is that true, b*tch?” Gwen questioned, her eyes glinting with mischief.
I tried to stand my ground. “Let go of me Gwen.” I stuttered, a surge of frustration coursing through me.
She mimicked me and they all laughed at my speech impairment. She raised her perfectly manicured fingers, about to claw at my face when an authoritative voice called out.
“Let her go Gwen!”
Instantly she let go and pushed me aside as an imposing figure approached us.
“Aiden?” She muttered, eyes widened in shock for a nanosecond and she replaced her viscous aura with a sweet smile, pushing me out of the way. She threw her hands around his neck and kissed him fully on the lips as he halted before her.
I looked away, a pang of pain shooting through me. I made to leave, silently but he stopped me dead in my tracks.
“Ida!” He called out, causing a shock wave to hit everyone. He broke free from Gwen's hold and walked up to me.
“Yes?” I whispered, afraid my voice would betray me.
“Do you wanna come to my party tonight?” He asked, out of the blues. Before I could respond, he reached for my hand and shoved a card into it.
“Aiden! What are you-” Gwen began to complain but he shut her up with glare and secretly winked at me.
“Let's go.” He said to Gwen and they walked out hand-in-hand, leaving me bewildered on the spot.
****************”
For about an hour, I stared blankly at the card in my hand, my emotions transited from confusion to excitement, curiosity and then adventure. I looked at my reflection in the mirror and just gave up, laying on my bed and staring at the white painted ceiling, gradually; I fell asleep.
When I woke up, there was a parcel delivered to me from Aiden and a little note- This dress would look beautiful on you.
The dress was magnificent and after I wore it and styled my hair, it was perfect. I headed for the party at his house, an Uber had been ordered for me as well. For the first time in a very long time, my instincts didn't sense danger; instead, my wolf growled with anticipation.
When I arrived, everyone was dazzled at the transformation-the blind girl finally had a makeover! I chuckled as they showered me with praises, inquiring about my dress and spoke like we were long term friends. A voice in my head ordered me to meet at a certain location and I obeyed, risky but enthralling.
It led me to a room, dimly lit. No one was there and I wanted to leave.
“You look beautiful.” A voice whispered from the darkness. I squinted my eyes, trying to see who it was, momentarily regretting choosing contact lenses over my old fashioned glasses.
“Who are you?” I stuttered.
My wolf answered the question as she growled excitedly, a mixture of pine and cedar scent gracing the room. My lips curled in a smile. “Aiden?”
He stepped into the dim light, his eyes shone with passion and I was enchanted by his beauty, his curly hair fell on his face, revealing his seductive eyes and his kissable lips which invited-
“Are you done stripping me with your eyes?” He joked and I laughed, nervously.
He reached out and touched my hands and in that instant, it was confirmed. A word I always longed to hear, one that morphed into dread -’Mate!’
"Say it." He whispered gruffly as his eyes locked with me.
I blinked severally, afraid to look away, scared this forbidden desire would get a hold of me. I held his gaze, those intense fires lit in his eyes burnt my insides. I felt a trickle descend down the pit of my stomach.
He took a step closer, covering the distance between us. I momentarily broke our interlocked gaze.
My eyes darted to the door. It was securely bolted. I was scared, terrified of what this attraction meant, he and I are worlds apart.
“Aiden, I think I'm in the wrong-”
I was abruptly cut off as he crashed his lips on mine. I tried to rebuff his actions but he had his hands wrapped around my waist. A possessive growl escaped from his throat- Mate!
