Chapter Two: The Dress

1264 Words
The party wasn’t until like eight something so I wasn’t too worried about it. I knew mom had a plan for me so why stress it? I finally finished the last of my homework and grabbed my favorite book. It was about two star struck lovers that were from two different worlds. I went to the balcony where the hammock was, I climbed inside and let my foot dangle over the edge as the breeze softly swayed side to side. Often times I would end up dozing off here which was pretty normal for me. This was my happy place. Mom would be home probably around five so I was in no rush to do anything, I didn’t even have my dress yet it was a surprise. I know she secretly wanted me to end up being mated to either another beta family or the Alpha’s. The Alpha’s Luna had passed away years ago when the twins were sixteen and I was thirteen. She had been attacked by vampires while she was away visiting brother who was an Alpha of a pack a few hours away. It had taken weeks for her body to give in to the poison. She was the first to have ever been attacked by vampires so know one knew what would happen to her. My father had already been killed in battle by that point. The Alpha was so heart broken after having to bury his mate that he made it illegal to leave the pack lands without permission or for a vampire to step foot on these lands. The vampire that attacked his wife hadn’t been in a coven, he was a new born and hadn’t learned basic survival skills. Most vampires don’t bother with werewolves because we are not their choice for food, our scent is repulsive to them and theirs is to us. My mom and Alpha Leto had talked for years if they should choose each other as their chosen mates. Mom had told him that we must wait until we find out who I am mated to, and give me a fair shot in case I was mated to his son’s. He had agreed that would be smart to wait and see what would happen. He was actually really open to the idea that I might be mated to his boys. I honestly didn’t really care who my mate was as long as who ever it was accepted me. I had read so many love stories and watch so many romantic movies that I was just dying to have an amazing love story. I was daydreaming about finding the love of my life and the day just kind of slipped by me. I didn’t hear the door open and close to the balcony I had my eyes closed soaking up the sunshine. “Hey, you gonna get ready?” A familiar voice called me back to reality. I looked up to see my mother looking at me still wearing her charcoal grey pants suit from work. I had gotten my figure from her, but she had long curly black hair. We had the same complexion and ruby red lip color and of course I shared her one green eye. She was shorter than me, she came to my shoulder I think maybe she stood at five foot three. I smiled at her and rolled off the hammock and onto my feet. “Sorry mom! I was enjoying the sunshine,” she knew I loved to allow my imagination take me. “Mhm, you sure you weren’t imagining your fated mate?” She chuckled. I turned a few shades of red but didn’t answer. I headed to my bedroom and waited for her to bring my dress in. I sat in front of my vanity. Brushing out my hair knowing that if she helped I would for sure lose hair. She didn’t mean to me rough on my hair but it had always been like that. I grew use to it. I had just finished my hair when she walked in with a pink garment bag I held my breath excited to see what was inside. “Let me know when your ready to have your hair and makeup done!” She called as she left me with it. I unzipped the bag to find a stunning ruby red dress inside. It had a sweetheart neckline, with red sequins on the bodice, it was strapless, it was meant to hug my curves then flare out just below my hips. I just stared at it shocked that my mom picked this out for me. She didn’t dress me slutty or anything but she liked to play up my figure a bit. I stripped quickly dying to be in this dress. The dress itself was made of a buttery satin that glided over my skin. I looked in the mirror and this dress was even better than I had imagined I zipped it up the back and was in the middle of admiring it when I heard a knock at my door, “Hey, Cinderella you gonna let your fairy godmother in?” My mother teased from the hallway. I giggled feeling absolutely gorgeous as I let her in. Her eyes almost popped out of her head when she saw me. She almost had to pick her jaw off the floor. “Wow!” Was all she could manage. “I feel so beautiful! Thank you mom!” I was beaming with joy. “Don’t thank me yet. Wait until you see what I have in store.” She grinned. I sat in the chair facing her while she worked on my makeup sometimes tickling me with the brushes. I tried to not move very much to make it easier for her. Once she was done painting my face I turned for her to do my hair. He had moved the chair away from a mirror she wanted my look to be me a surprise to me. She was attacking my hair with pins and hair spray. I had better stay away from any fire tonight I might be flammable. When she was done she stood in front of me and stared at her handy work. She nodded to herself before handing my a small red velvet box. “This is from you father, it was his mother’s.” She smiled as she handed me the box. Inside sat a ruby necklace with matching stud earrings. I gasped and felt tears burn in my eyes, “Oh no! Don’t cry I’ll have start all over again!” My mother scolded. I managed to pull myself together and put the earring in and she helped with the necklace. I stood and stepped into the glittering red heels she picked for me. I was ready to see the final look before I headed downstairs. I hugged my mom closely before I looked into the mirror. “Thank you for everything mom. I love you!” I kissed her cheek as I turned to the mirror. I was silent for a moment while I tried to recognize the woman looking back at me. She was beautiful and elegant, she looked like she belonged in a movie. I couldn’t believe that was me. I met my mom in the kitchen and she was wearing a dusky pink chiffon dress. He curly hair was down and she added lipstick to her look. She wore flats because heels hurt her ankles. She held the door open for me as we left our apartment.
