The Unfinished Story The breeze carried the scent of sampaguita and coffee from the corner eatery. Elias sat on his favorite bench in the park, the one carved with a heart and the initials "E&J." He glanced at his watch, 3:15 PM. Javier should be here by now Ever since they graduated, Elias and Javier met at this park every day. Elias, a simple postman, waited for Javier, his close friend, who worked as a painter. With every meeting, they talked, laughed, and shared their dreams. But one day, Javier didn't come. Elias worried, so he went to Javier's house. No one was there. He asked the neighbors, but no one knew where Javier had gone. Days turned into weeks, weeks into months. Elias didn't give up searching. Every day, he went to the park, to their bench, waiting. He prayed that he would see Javier, that there would be good news. Years passed. Elias grew older, his hairturning white, his eyes crinkled with age. But his hope didn't change. Every day, he went to the park, to their bench, waiting. One day, a young girl approached him. "Grandpa, why are you always sitting there?" she asked. "I'm waiting," Elias replied. "For who?" "For my friend," Elias answered, his eyes gleaming with a strange light. "Isn't he coming?" the child asked. Elias smiled, a sad smile. "He's coming," he said. "He's coming, and we'll talk." Elias didn't know that his friend had died in an accident years ago. He didn't know that his waiting was endless. In his old age, his love for Javier became a memory, a dream that never came true. And in his death, his heart carried a secret hope, a hope that they would meet again in the afterlife.
