We Met Again
"We Met Again"
The cafe was filled with the aroma of roasted coffee beans and the soft murmur of conversation. Ethan sat by the window, his gaze lost in the swirling rain outside. He was waiting for someone, someone he hadn't seen in years.
He felt a tap on his shoulder, and turned to see Alex standing there, a familiar warmth spreading through him. Alex looked different, a bit more weathered, a bit more tired, but his eyes still held the same mischievous glint.
"Ethan," Alex said, a hesitant smile gracing his lips. "It's been a while."
Ethan's throat tightened. "Too long," he managed, his voice rough.
They sat down, the silence between them filled with unspoken words and a lifetime of regrets. Ethan had been the one who walked away, afraid of the feelings that had blossomed between them. He'd buried himself in work, in a life that kept him safe, but never truly happy.
Alex, with a sigh, broke the silence. "I thought I'd lost you, Ethan. I thought you were gone for good."
Ethan's eyes met Alex's, a wave of guilt washing over him. "I was a coward, Alex. I was scared."
"Scared of what?" Alex asked, his voice gentle.
"Scared of us," Ethan whispered, his voice barely audible. "Scared of what we could be."
Alex reached across the table, his hand finding Ethan's. "It's not too late, Ethan. We can still be what we were meant to be."
Ethan looked at Alex, his heart pounding in his chest. He saw the love in Alex's eyes, the same love he'd felt all those years ago. He knew, deep down, that this was his chance, his second chance.
He took a deep breath, his voice firm this time. "It's not too late, Alex. It's never too late."
The rain outside continued to fall, but inside the cafe, a new warmth was blooming, a warmth that promised a future filled with hope and love.
