The Market
"Hmm..." I reacted as I pursed my small pink lips together looking at the broad-shouldered man in front of me.
"He is new, but I will break him for you if you want, Miss..." The auctioneer trailed off. He was a lowly, short, bald man. He stunk of booze as he rounded the small column the man was standing on, his stench invaded my nostrils as he made his way toward me. I watched his belly jiggle as his small feeble legs wobbled clearly in strain of having to carry the extra weight. His double chin bounced as a vicious smile appeared on his overly rounded face.
"Not necessary" I replied sharply, bringing my attention back to the man in front of me. He was tall, very tall, I stretched my neck trying to look up at his face which was masked in a neutral tone. He was broad-shouldered and had way more muscle than any man I had seen in a long time, which was not rare here. Many men have muscles, but not like his, it was almost as if he had been constructed by Odin and Zeus themselves. "I like to break them myself, to fit my pleasures and mine alone." I c****d an eyebrow, putting both my hands behind my back.
"Are you sure?" The auctioneer continued making his way closer as he started playing with the leather whip in his hand. "I will make a good price for him Miss..." I could see he was still trying to get my name. He grinned wider as I saw the massive space in between his two front teeth that were stained and discolored. Finally, he reached my side, a few inches away, his breath which was mere meters from my ear left its mark as it burnt my senses. I hate the smell of alcohol, except wine, but this monstrosity of an imbecile smelled like he didn't understand the meaning of a shower. Choking back a gag, being sure not to let him see, I slowly slid down my black hood to reveal my face. I watched his sickening grin fade as recognition hit his eyes. He slowly backed away, dropping his gaze before shooting me a glance to make sure he was right in his mind. I nodded and gradually placed the hood back positioning it to cover bits of my face. "Princess..." He spoke but I quickly held up my hand to silence him.
"How much?" I nodded at the life-like statue of a God in human form in front of me.
"Two thousand!" He yelled out, realizing he hit the jackpot, thinking he could make more than ever.
"Two thousand?" I inquired, raising my thick shapely black brow in his direction. "I could go to Lucian for less." I focused my attention back on the man standing still on the column, he is a rare find but I am also drawn to him.
"Lucian?" He scoffed, coming closer rounding me making his way to the other side, and looking up at the man. "He is a specimen, I have already had several bids. Lucian is a cheat and a swindler." His face became contorted as if the mere name that graced his lips brought him physical discomfort.
I raised both of my eyebrows, not taking my eyes off the man before leisurely turning my head toward the tub of lard next to me. "I will take him, and two more, another male and one female." I watch as he starts to open his mouth, but I raise my hand to let me finish, I know what he wants. "I will make you my only auctioneer.. and my father's." His dark eyes lit up, sweat started to steadily drip from his darkened skin, and I wondered just how hard he had to work his body for it to sweat while standing.
"Deal" His grin had now turned into a toothy smile as he extended his mocha-colored stained chubby hand in my direction.
"Dimitri" I spoke softly, a large man dressed all in black stepped from behind me. He extended his hand and met it with the auctioneer's. Dimitri is my bodyguard, not that I need one, but he is always there. My constant if you will, he was placed beside me as per my father's orders. Over time I have come to appreciate his time and talent, and for touching things I'd rather not have around me.
"Ouch!" I observed as the auctioneer yipped at the slight pressure Dimitri gave in the handshake. He is very intimidating to look at, his pale complexion and black eyes would give anyone nightmares if you looked into them for too long. His dirty blonde hair is always slicked back with some type of gel and his arms are covered in tattoos. He towers over many people and that in itself can be frightening, but I knew it was mixed. As much as he scared people he was a total pushover, but to cross him was something else or to try anything with me, let's just say you'll wind up dead before you could register what was happening. "Here is your beast, and you can pick the other's" The auctioneer motioned behind him as he rubbed his fingers, they were going to swell, but I must admit that Dimitri loves it.
I walked behind the lowly soul as he handed Dimitri the auction papers, to the others standing on similar blocks as my God-like man behind me. I looked over some that were promising before selecting a beautiful, slender woman. As I brought my hand up to touch her lovely blonde locks, she flinched. "Tsk tsk" I clicked my tongue on my teeth as I watched her flinch, oh that just won't do. I paced myself around the column to see several markings on her back and thighs. I pointed as Dimitri took her leash following behind we made our way over to a sun-kissed young man. He stood still even as the spectators poked him about. I swiftly pointed my finger noticing an older woman starting to raise her hand for his leash. Dimitri pushed through the mass of people beginning their walk to observe the others. He grabbed the man's chain bringing him down, I eyed the expression change on the old woman's leathery face as she let out a huff. Her beady eyes narrowed as began following my bodyguard. s**t.
"Barbarian" She called out as they arrived at my side. "I am bidding on him, you can't just take them like that!" She finally reached me and I felt the icy stare of Dimitri as he stared down the frantic old woman.
"I can. I bought him. He is mine." I stated plainly not letting my hood slip backward as I held her gaze.
"That's not how this works, little girl, you have to make purchases before nine am, and since it is after they will be auctioned off to the highest bidder." She snapped, the extra skin under her neck swayed as she shook her head. I watched as the pearls around her chest swished under her movements, and her gray hair creeped out at the sides of her massive purple brimmed hat. She must think highly of herself to flaunt purple, it is strictly reserved for royals and people of great status. Not wanting it to be a spectacle I whistled for my auctioneer who was busy buying more whiskey from the large sum he had just received.
"I did buy him before nine am, my auctioneer can attest to that," I told her in a low monotone voice before looking over to catch the sight of his dark circled eyes got more expansive. He rapidly trotted through the crowd, holding up his dirt stained colored red pants with one hand and his bottle in the other. "Please, inform Madam I have procured these slaves before nine am."
"Yes, Pri.." He noticed my dark brown eyes narrow in his direction. "Miss has bought all three of my lot before the time allotted Madam Gilley." He smiled wide as his sunken brown eyes darted back and forth between us. Hmm... A name, I will look into her, she seems like trouble.
"You see" A smug smile passed my lips as I turned on my heels to retrieve the man I had an urge to see. As I pushed through the now much larger crowd to see another begin to poke this God in human form, I began regretting leaving him behind. I had this urge to turn around to see the old broad had worked up enough gull to follow us. Oh, I knew she would be trouble. I rolled my eyes and let out a loud huff as I reached the broad shouldered man, grabbing his chain as he briskly jumped from the platform.
"Now I know you did not buy this one!" Her voice shrieked as I winced at the sound that came from her lips that were no longer present on her face. I kept walking until I heard her yell for guards. f**k. I stopped as two men in loin cloths rounded the corner in front of me, holding large guns. "She is stealing slaves, I know for a fact she did not pay for all of them."
I whirled around to see her point her boney unpolished finger at me. I could feel the heat radiating from Dimitri, I glanced at him to encourage that I had the situation under control. "Dimitri, papers" I spoke through gritted teeth, I was trying not to lose control and rip her throat out, but I kept my composure as I handed the papers to one of the guards. He nodded as he looked them over.
"They are free to go!" The shorter guard announced as they moved aside for us to pass.
"No! She is stealing!" I felt the old woman latch onto my elbow. s**t, wrong move lady. In a flash, Dimitri held the woman's feet above the ground by her neck, he let out a low hiss in warning as he bared his fangs. I snapped my fingers watching him toss her to the side, her lavender ankle-length dress now covered in mud. She grappled onto her elbows as she glared at me. "You'll pay for this!" She grumbled, wiping the mud from her face. I could see the wrinkles surrounding her beady eyes get more defined as she glared in my direction.
"No. I won't." I smirked. "Dimitri!" I raised my voice as we took off out of the overly crowded market and down the alleyway. "Get Ailisa to gather information on this Madam Gilley." I relayed to Dimitri as we rounded the corner to the large black SUV waiting in solitude. He nodded as he put the half-naked humans in the back, then as always came to my side. He extended his gloved hand out for me to take as he opened the door to help me in the passenger side. After closing the door, he dashed to the driver's side taking off down the street. Neither of us spoke as we reached the gates to my home. The black barred twelve-foot gates open as our slick car rendered inside. As Dimitri made his way to my side, I watched some of my staff trot out of my mansion.
