Chapter One
It was a chilly November evening around 5:30, almost Thanksgiving. The breeze and smell of fresh cut grass was wonderful, making the sky brighter as if it were making the Heavens alive again. Children were running around everywhere in the yards of their homes, playing 'hide-and-seek' and 'tag'. Once in a while, the mothers would scold their children when they started to argue with one another, fighting over the chance of being 'it' when playing their loved games. It usually happened this way. The mothers trying to break up child's play fighting, the children having the time of their life and the fathers cooking barbecue on their grill, along with some cheese sausage, too. And when night hit, everyone would take a bath, their breath sacred, for they did not know when their time of Heaven or Hell would come for them. It was like a routine, an everyday schedule that had to be done one way or another. So I guess you could say the town of Vineland, New Jersey was pretty hectic. Maybe that was the reason why a certain woman with the name of Veronica Lee was always inside of her lonely, empty and cold household. After all, she was terrified of what was outside in the open where it wasn't quite and peaceful, and you can't dare forget her cats that live with her, the only other breathing object to keep her company. But did Veronica care? No, not one bit. Because in her home, there's everything she ever needs. She doesn't even need to go out to the stores to buy gifts or groceries! It's all done online! So what's the big deal with not going outside to meet people and new demons waiting to attack her? Okay, maybe Veronica was quite paranoid for no reason. Heck, it's not her fault! It is the worlds fault! Or at least, that's what she always told herself to feel better. Of course, after a while it gets boring around the house after constantly cleaning the kitchen and blinds, the living room and the door knobs to each wooden plank that separates Veronica from her worst nightmares. Don't get me wrong, it could be fun if she were to put on an old vinyl of Frank Sinatra or Nat King Cole. She did love those songs. And if she wanted to get extra excited, she would play some Blondie, David Bowie or Joni James. So life was good to her. That was until a beautiful woman became her neighbor with such a big heart and bright, green, life-filled eyes. The neighbor was the exact opposite of Veronica. She loved being outdoors, she loved seeing the kids and dogs playing out in the front yard, everything Veronica loathed. But little did Veronica know how much this woman had of a soul filled in love, and little did she know this woman would change her life for the better or worse.
