Beginning
Under the three moons in the colour of blue, white, and yellow, everywhere was bright even to the deepest part of a forest that was rare to find in their world. There was no day or night time but always daylight. This was Oros, the world of science and technology designated in the Galaxy of Aster.
A girl in a fitted black armour suit stood there, on the rooftop of one of the tallest skyscrapers looking around the world she hasn’t got a chance to explore. Everywhere the eyes meet, there will be tall buildings, automobiles, and skylines that covers the land. Even the air was crowded with convertible flying cars and holograms.
“Hand us over the handbook, Lia.” she heard a very familiar voice behind her. Her braided purple hair that reached her mid back was swung by the strong wind towards her left shoulder. The most distinct in her feature was her normal creamy complexion, that no one in Oros ever had.
Looking back over her shoulder without moving an inch, she saw her uncle Alex on the lead. He was someone who succeeded in his business through stealing files and proposals of other institutes and claimed them as his own, even to the point of betraying his family clan.
‘So much for being called a family.’ she thought. To her, even though her own father sent her to an organization to become an inventor and never have the chance to see him again, she wasn’t hurt at all. However, knowing that a family betrayed her for their own personal use is another story.
There were men in the same outfit as hers and some wore business suits and others on a galactic overall space wears. Their exposed skin were in varied colours. And she was considered as ‘alien’ in their world which she also believed because when all of them eat metals and chemicals to survive, she has a secret of her own, a small dimensional space with a river of a sparkling liquid which is the only thing she drank to satisfy her hunger instead of the rustic taste of metals that, in her case, cannot be digested.
Slowly turning around, she came face to face with at least twenty men whom she was very familiar with, they were all her fellow companions in creating all the masterpieces that made their organization create an unforgettable name driving people mad.
Now, they were seizing her for the handbook of the newest invention that could sabotage the whole Oros.
Since she was five year old, she was sent with a group of children to one of the powerful technology institute, Futurae Establishment, and never have the fortune to come out.
Many people in their world may say how lucky they were to enter in the organization but they don’t know that behind the success of Futurae Establishment was a sacrifice of thousands of lives.
Once being a part of the establishment meant that they already became one of their property, they only have to work and became their sacrificial lamb whenever they’re needed to try their technical innovations.
One can only be lucky if they are counted as an important subject, someone they can benefit from, whom they will grant all she needed except, they can only move around their own designated area. Otherwise, the consequence will be execution. They were just prisoners.
“And if I don’t?” she bantered casually, almost careless and bored. However, her expression was blank as usual, it makes her Uncle not be able to read her mind.
Alex pursed his lips and replied coldly, “You already knew the outcome if you defy us. There’s nothing new about our rules.”
The answer is laid before her eyes, to kill her. Of course there’s nothing new about it. Killing an enemy or anyone is as natural as walking along the street in Oros.
“But only I have the knowledge to control those humanoid robots, spaceships, and that one.” Lia said frankly, her head tilted upward looking at the sky. Above them was a varied nuclear weapon that can wipe them all in a matter of seconds.
Lia knew, this was the reason why her Uncle Alex betrayed his own blood relatives, to become a powerful figure whom everyone will bow down to and praise. He was ambitious and greedy.
If she knew that the invention she made will be the reason for the Futurae Establishment to bath in their own blood, she would have never pursue their master’s dream of inventing such weapon.
Many people were afraid that Futurae will have the power to control everyone in their world, thus, with the compelling words of her Uncle, everyone turns their back against the organization who once feed many families and offered them livelihood despite the dark secret of their activities.
Even the people she has grown through with thick and thin together has now have their guns pointing at her.
Her Uncle’s goal was to destroy the nuclear weapon and have control of the spaceships that will send them over to their neighbouring planet, which they only have a chance to see in the outer space and telescope. They don’t even know if they can live there.
“Because I tell you, the handbook is only here.” she continued expressionlessly, her index finger pointing on her temple.
Alex clenched his jaw in anger. He has to capture her or get the handbook. “All of you, grab her!” he commanded.
Nonetheless, before anyone could get their hands on her, she activated a hologram in front of her, everyone knew what was right in front of them and they automatically halted.
“What do you think you’re doing? Are you going to blast us all? You will die with us if you do that.” the man couldn’t help but condemn and sneered at his foolish niece.
Lia just gave him a glimpse and concentrated on swiping screens after screens on the hologram light without saying a word.
The only thing she knew was to blast everything. She was tired of it; working on machines, mixing chemicals, being under radiations, deafening noise of metals and irons, experimenting dangerous substances… being a prisoner.
No doubt, she loves working on her own, but being chained and control was against her freedom. Ah, freedom, that’s all that she wants.
Suddenly, a beeping sound came from the hologram, smoke emitting from the bottom of the nuclear bomb above them. Only Lia knew that this wasn’t just a bomb, but a poison that will envelop their world once in for all.
In a final beep, Lia closed her eyes to welcome her fate. She wasn’t bothered by the panicking and shouting men around her. She was just in her dream, she just wish to at least have a chance to enjoy her life, she don’t exactly know what kind of life it is.
She don’t know anything about it. She has never gotten a chance to know it. Because all she knew was working in that compound without a break, almost like a robot to be controlled until their battery lapse and depreciate. But whatever it is, she wish to taste that life she was deprived of, and she knew she will never have a chance to do that.
