Chapter 1: Example of Leaders
"You need to stop doing that." Kayla said after stopping me from putting the oh-so-blessed-ornaments on my hair.
These ornaments are well known as the last sacred relics.
Long story short, the Elders before fcked up and caused the destruction of everything.
Witches are powerful beings before. With their power and spells, everything is possible.
Even bringing someone back from the dead, with the right enchantment and spells, it can always be done.
"I didn't bring you here to play with that." she added.
Well, what did she expect? I'm one of the most mischievous people here. Bringing me to the room of secrets where the Elders and Orders can only come is totally a bad move.
I'm Sofia Mondrey. Daughter of Elise Mondrey who sought refuge in this town of Latera. I was born and raised here. Sometimes they called me "The Rebel of the East" since my mother said that she came from some village at the east. Aside from that, I don't know anymore information about my origins.
My mother died a long time ago after I was born. A witch named Lala took me in and adopt me as her heiress.
"What's wrong with it? It makes me look the prettiest among the Fates." I said. Smiling and twinkling my eyes at her.
The Fates are the ones who embodies and represents the four elements.
Their beauty is something that will leave you dazzled and speechless.
I can't help it.
Those ornaments really look gorgeous. They said it was a gift from a goddess.
Wearing it will make you look like one.
Even the ugliest can be the prettiest once they wear it.
It's such a shame tho.
I never thought that the last relic would turn out to be the most useless one.
"Haha." She just huffed, let out a sarcastic laugh and look at me with dismay.
"Seriously? Can you just be carefree for a second?" I said to her.
"I should've brought you elsewhere and not here." she said facepalming.
Well it was never a wise choice to bring me here. Good thing the guards are busy guarding the Great Pillars where the ceremony of old witches will be held.
Knowing that Kayla will be here to guard the relics assures them that nothing will happen.
Unfortunately, I'm also here.
Kayla Beaumont is the leader of the Order.
It is composed of 10 people who guide and discipline those who will not follow the rules of the Circle.
She's the one that the Elder's assigned to me.
More like a volunteer actually.
She's always like this. Strict and sarcastic. Sometimes dumb. I never thought that I will be friends with an Elder's daughter.
We used to be rivals in everything before, and we're totally the exact opposite of each other. She brought me here with her because it's her duty to stop me from doing things that I might usually do.
Perhaps like?
Causing some trouble at the Ceremony?
The other Orders doesn't like me.
As a daughter of an outsider they look at me with disgust and ruefulness, same with the Elders.
I walked near the window and peeked out to see if the Elders are already at the Great Pillars. Even though I'm only at the 10th floor, the view from the tower is wide and clear.
Turns out they will be late for the ceremony huh.
The tower of Athena is one of the highest building here in Latera. It consist of 20 floors and have atleast 3 rooms in each floor based from the stories that I've heard.
This tower is left unexplored, because some floors and rooms have sigils that makes people unable to enter it.
Our Elders doesn't have any ideas how to remove those sigils.
The knowledge and power they once have is now gone.
How useless.
It also serves as an observatory since you can view everything here in Latera once you're at the top of the tower. I have always wanted to see that view but only the Elders can access that place here.
"You need to start respecting them. Even if they treated you like that, you're still a low ranked witch in this circle" I huffed at her words. Really?
"Why would I? They don't even deserve any respect. Especially mine."
It's true.
Only those who know the meaning of that word deserves it. Unfortunately, those elders are rotten to the core.
They love to torture anyone who messes up with their plans.
They don't trust anyone in their group. Fighting with each other is one of their daily routine.
When the Headchief of the Circle died, they started to fight for that position. The Circle almost turned away from them because of the petty fights and disturbances they caused. It ended with the seven Elders forming a pact to be equal among each other.
Even before, I'm always amazed how they run this Circle with that kind of attitude and behavior.
The top one's doesn't even know how to respect each other.
What a good example of leaders.
I heard some blaring noises and decided to watch through the window what was happening outside.
They started blowing the horns as a signal for the ceremony to start. Atleast 100 are present for the Old Witches ceremony. This ceremony bring forth the soul in peace of those who perished from the war decades ago.
It's annually done to commemorate witches who bravely fought against the Grimm's Circle.
Grimm's Circle. The traitors who brought destruction upon the land of witches. They stole countless book of spells and burned it to ashes. Even the sacred relics are nowhere to be found.
They have grudges against the Elders who abused their powers. Used it on the weak and created a faction with unequal and selfish rules for their benefits. They killed them.
All of them. Those who knows ancient magics and spells died a long time ago. The history of the Land of Lutera was buried a hundred years ago.
It's still a mystery how they founded and rebuilt everything from that tragedy.
As a daughter of an outsider, I'm actually a fan of the Grimm's.
The Elders should have seen this coming. Using their so called power for their own gain was never right to begin with. The Grimm's might be too cruel for the destruction of relics and spells, but if the Elders who are the ones that have the authority used it in unsuitable ways, then it might as well be gone forever.
