Episode 1
Chapter one
Coraline stared out of the cruiser window, trying to keep her rising annoyance at bay, her sharp purple eyes narrowed, the only sign of the 17 year old girl caring for anything happening outside her shell, as she tried to make sense of the green blur outside the vehicle, that flashed by at the great speed of 141 kph.
She sighed in defeat when she realized that her eyes would not be able to make out anything other than a bunch of colors. She knew though that they were in the woods, this wasn’t the highway.
Behind the thick glass wall that separated her from the officers, she could hear their muffled voices. She could feel the panic vibrating in the air of the car.
Coraline almost smirked when she thought about the reason behind their uncomfortableness.
The urge to smile faded away as soon as the car slowed down to a respectable speed of 98 kph.
In front of them she could make out 16 foot tall iron gates, which developed into iron fences, which continued for as long as she could see from her place in the cruiser. No way she could climb those.
They were probably even electrified. ‘For everyone’s safety’, she shivered as the words rung inside her head.
“For t̶h̶e̶i̶r̶ your safety”, it whispered, an echo of her thought.
As the car slowed down, now under 10 kph, she looked up from her lap, and stared out into space for a moment, quietly wondering what the cause was.
She used the limited sight the car’s tinted window could offer to see why they would suddenly slow down after driving over 100 kph.
A tall man in a pair of sunglasses standing in the booth the car was approaching was the answer to her unasked question.
The officer who sat in the drivers seat rolled down his window, and it seemed like they greeted each other.
Coraline put her index finger to the cold glass, shattering 3 layers of the 6 layered glass, and got rid of the glass shards by closing her hand into a fist.
“-her name?”, the man asked, trying to see through the window at the young girl sitting in the car with two police officers.
Dumbass. You can’t see anything with 2 tinted layers shadowing your sight. Coraline thought to herself.
Then the car started moving again, and she got a slap of reality.
The police officers were taking her through gates to a place she didn’t know. If she had had a beating heart, it would’ve been beating at 142 kph.
Both her hands formed into fists, and the remaining 3 layers of the glass wall shattered, to which both officers turned around to the sound of.
Coraline took deep breaths, fighting the fear that was creeping up her body. But the scared gazes of the police’s weren’t helping her at all.
Her head snapped up and she glared at them, causing the driver to turn his eyes to the gravel path again.
Coraline directed her attention to her window again, but when the car finally stood still, a light knock could be heard from Coraline’s door, knowing what was expected of her, she took her backpack and clicked out her seat belt, pushed down the handle to the car door and stepped out.
As she stood in the chilling air of September, she was engulfed in a tight hug. She stiffened.
Because the person who was hugging her hadn’t let go even after 5 seconds, Coraline out both her hands on the person’s chest, and shoved.
It came out harder than she intended, and the woman’s body made contact with the brick wall behind her.
I looked at my feet in a foreign emotion. Shame.
“You’re lucky that she isn’t a human”, a deep, lone tone was speaking to her, and she looked up from my shoes.
The woman, who had recovered, and stood beside the man, maybe just a little more wary of the 17 year old girl in front of her.
“Yeah, let’s just hope that she doesn’t treat people like her roommate like that”, the woman exclaimed. Giving Coraline a reassuring smile.
Roommate?
Chapter two
Whatever mistake she’d done in her past, she was willing to go back in time and fix it anytime.
What had she done that made her deserve such a terrifying situation as this??
Roommates meant nosy, arrogant and over-friendly people who just could mind their own business.
“Come with me, I’ll follow you to your dorm”, the woman said, giving her another smile.
Coraline nodded and spun around. No cruiser in sight. So no turning back? She shook her head to her own thought.
She grabbed the mini duffel bag, the only bag but the backpack, and followed the woman to the entrance.
As they walked up stairs after corridors, the woman talked, and Coraline listened. “My name is Mrs. Black to students, but please, call me Fiona”, she said happily, they walked for 5 more minutes until they reached a wooden door.
Fiona turned to look at Coraline, who was tired of all the walking.
“My uhm, daughter Tess is your roommate for now, don’t shove her into a wall, she is quite short tempered”, Fiona beamed, frowning.
“I’ll leave you to unpack, we’ll meet again”, she said, and Coraline nodded. She took a deep breath, and when she looked around the hall Fiona was gone.
She put her hand around the door knob, praying that the door would open soundlessly, no such luck.
It whined and groaned as it opened, it took Coraline very bit of self control not to fix it with a snap of her fingers.
As she stepped in, her piercing purple eyes gazed upon the room with disgust.
The room was clearly split in half, and it was obvious it had been done recently, as one side was full of things scattered around the floor, and the other half was empty but the queen sized bed and a large closet.
She carried her duffel bag over to the bed, and only half an hour later the little stuff she had was in place, leaving only a rectangular, black silk box behind.
The girl’s fingers stroked the fabric, caressing the keeper of her treasure.
She took a golden key from her skirt pocket, and pushed it into the lock that was preventing people from seeing the dark oak violin, with carvings in a lighter shade of oak.
Her gaze once again settling on the golden locked girl on the bed across from hers, she opened the balcony doors, already knowing which song she was going to play.
