CHAPTER 5

704 Words
sitting on the last bench of the class with Aira, I almost forgot to say 'present' but Aira reminded me. I wasn't much angry at her now and even regretted saying those words earlier. She was clearly trying to be friends. And if anyone was at fault it was Anikesh. Now observing her from so close made me realize that she is even more pretty. Her hair is tied into a high ponytail very much like mine but that's where the similarity ends. Her blue eyes are soft now, very much less intimidating than earlier. Her spotless white skin was shining a little when the sunrays of the morning sun fell on her. And she was definitely taller than me. Must be at least 5'10''. She was damn pretty and I realized she was staring at me too. "I am sorry to have made u feel that way. I met Anikesh for the first time yesterday. Although...Never mind. I have something to give you." She took out a small blue box from her bag. It was the size of her palm and with a symbol on it which I had never seen before. As she opened it, I gasped. "Are you freaking kidding me? you are not supposed to bring any kind of jewelry to school. Especially something so costly-looking. Tell me this is not real.". It was the most elegant and beautiful pendant I had ever seen. It had a shimmering blue stone quite bigger than a coin with a shiny silver chain. It spoke of royalty. " It is real and it belongs to you.", she said it effortlessly as if I should have already known this. Okay, in no f*****g world I was going to buy that lie. No matter how confidently she was selling it. I couldn't help but laugh. "What is so funny?...you think I am kidding? you sure have no idea, do you?". There seemed to be some kind of disturbance outside and then the rare thing happened. The principal of our school entered our class. He was recently transferred to our school. He is also a history expert and a wonderful person. He has seemed to like me as a student very much. All students stood up in synchrony and wished him good morning confidently. After all, he is the principal and we all get quite nervous and excited when something like this happens. "Good morning students, please sit down". He seemed in a bit of a hurry. He didn't wait for all of us to get seated but continued "Ma'am Divya, please excuse Aira for some time. There are some rules of the school which she is yet not aware of. I need to make her understand." I don't know if it was just me feeling that or there was something unusual. He was looking annoyed and angry. I was seeing him like this for the first time. He is always very friendly and smiling. I wondered if Aira is the only reason behind this kind of behavior of his. This girl is already ringing all red alarms in my head. Giving me all the reasons in the world for not trusting her. Whatever she was saying could not be right anyway. But what if she really knows something that I don't know about my life. Now I wasn't certain if I really wanted to find that out. And she didn't make any sense about the pendent belonging to me. Aira looked at me, she still had that box in her palm. She quickly slipped that box in my hand. I shook my head to tell her I wasn't going to accept it no matter what lies she is trying to sell with it. "Please at least keep it until I come back." She said with a pleading face. I nodded reluctantly. She stood up like she was battle-ready now. She had that stern look on her face. She even picked up her bag as she might never return. She turned her head towards me for a second with a look that I was not quite able to comprehend. Something like she wanted me to understand her and that she was trying to be a friend.
