CHAPTER TENAt the first stoplight off the freeway, Lindsey leaned his head against the steering wheel and closed his eyes. The car behind him sounded its horn and he jerked back to awareness. He couldn’t recall feeling wearier—ever. At home he found Mother and Joanie Schorr happily watching The Gay Divorcee on the VCR. Joanie left and Lindsey sat with Mother while she hummed along with the soundtrack for “The Continental” and smiled at Ginger and Fred. When the movie was over she said, “They’re such a nice couple. Don’t they just look lovely together!
