Chapter 5

'W-what'd you just say?' I asked, hoping I'd somehow misheard him. I could tell he was even more upset, this was obviously very hard for him to talk about. 'My brother he, well, he's a monster, in every sense of the word. He was murderous, constantly bloodthirsty-' Hearing that, an image of his eyes flashed through my mind. 'He was ruthless, there were rumors he'd even killed children-' I could feel his breath on my skin, the stench of his breath nearly overwhelming me. 'My father banished him from the pack years ago, he called him a demon, a devil.' The entirety of what'd happened to me as a child stormed through my mind. I could feel myself trembling, breathing deeply, I was feeling light-headed, like no matter how much air it felt like I took in, I wasn't getting any. I felt tears roll down my cheeks, even as I stood in my wolf form. I could hear my name being called by, someone, but it wasn't clear, I could just barely make it out, like they were at the end of a long tunnel. Suddenly, everything went black, and I fell to the ground, unconscious. Slane's P.O.V. I could feel my chest tightening, my heart pounding wildly, as I carried her small form on my back. She'd fainted, and in doing so, she'd turned back into her original form. Gods was she magnificent, she wasn't some weak little thing like most guys prefer, no, she had just enough muscle tone to give her a 'don't mess with me,' look that made her sexy as hell. Her hair was long and blonde, loosely curled and pillow soft, she also had a perfect hourglass figure. I couldn't dwell on her appearance right now though, even if I wanted to, my mate needed help. I could feel her panic through our link, I even saw a few disturbing images that seemed to be from her past, and, if they were, then my brother was going to pay, dearly. I'd used a change of clothes I'd stowed away in the woods to clothe her, thankfully my shirt was more than enough to hide her from prying eyes. I was grateful we weren't far from my pack, and I was able to make it to the pack house rather quickly, as I ran in wolf form, with her across my back. 'I need a doctor to the infirmary, yesterday!' I demanded, thinking of all the packs doctors, so they'd all hear my command. I ran straight to the infirmary, not having to wait even a second for a doctor to arrive. He lifted her small frame off my back, and placed her on one of the beds. I couldn't fight the growl that escaped my lips when she was taken from me, but I knew better than to attack, he would be able to help her. "She seems dehydrated, and rather pale. Her heart is beating rapidly, erratic pulse." He spoke seemingly to himself, as if taking mental notes, before he turned to me. "It seems she's suffered a severe panic attack, did something happen that might have triggered it?" I could still feel her fear, even as she slept, it kept me from calming down enough to shift into my human form. 'Yeah, we were talking about her past, she said her mother was killed by a wolf, who, looked like me.' I explained. The doctors brows furrowed. "If you look like the wolf who killed her mother, given the strong parental bonds we wolves have, it's not surprising in the least you'd cause her to have a panic attack." I growled at that, anger bleeding through the fear gripping me. 'I would never harm my mate! I didn't mean to cause her any pain!' The doctors eyes went wide. "O-oh, I had no idea sire. In that case, you may be able to calm her. We wolves have strong paternal bonds, but the bond to our mate is just as strong, sometimes, even stronger. If you can shift back to your human form, physical contact with you may calm her. I'll go and get you some clothes, as her condition is stable, for now." With that, he left the room, a part of me wondered if the 'get you some clothes' was an excuse to give us some privacy, but either way, I was grateful. It took me a few minutes to shift, fear still pouring through our link, making my wolf uneasy, hard to control. I took her hand in a firm, comforting grip, not enough to hurt her, but I wanted her to know I was here, I'd always be here. I used our link to try to calm her, sending warm, comforting thoughts through. 'Wake up, you're safe here, just calm down.' Her breathing evened out, her heart rate slowing down considerably, before her eyes fluttered open. "Where, where am I?" Were the first words she spoke. Her voice was like a silken caress, easing my nerves. Though as her eyes opened, I noticed something rather strange. When she was asleep earlier, she had no tattoos, so why was it she now had two, just beside her eyes, in the shape of two crescent moons? The top points of the moons started just outside her eyes, the bottom of the two moons pointing towards her nose. "You're safe now, you're in my packs infirmary, you had a panic attack in the woods." I explained. Finally, her eyes opened completely. I heard her breath hitch in her throat as she looked at me, her eyes roaming over my body, as if looking for something. As she went lower, I noticed a blush spreading over her face, only for her to cover her face with her hands. Until then, I'd completely forgotten that I was still naked, the doctor had yet to return. I chuckled at her reaction, so she was shy, even though she had absolutely no problem attacking me out of the blue? "You know, I don't mind you looking at me, I mean, we are mates, after all."
