5 At least there weren’t any Castillo cousins haunting the bar at the La Fonda Hotel. Ava had already confirmed this by casting a surreptitious glance around the place as the hostess — luckily, a civilian — seated her and Gabriel at a table around the corner, near the little stage where they had live entertainment on the weekends. But it was a weekday afternoon, barely three o’clock, and so the bar was empty except for several older couples, obviously tourists, and a loud group of women at the bar’s one large table…women who were probably on their third or fourth margarita, by the sound of it.
