Rose Grew A Thorn.
A quick sound of laughter ringed in my ears. My eyes shot open and my head jerked up.
"Not again." I groan. Sliding off my small mattress I see a little boy curled up in a little ball silently snoring. I smile to myself.
"You're so innocent, you don't deserve this." My throat closed up and tears streamed down my face. The snoring stopped and the little body turned, his baby blue eyes meeting my eyes. His eyes softened when he saw the tear rolling down my face.
"Don't cry." He lower lip quivering, I ran towards him and hugged him, he buried his face in my chest hiding from the disgusting world we lived in. I slowly rocked back and forth trying to get him to sleep again, that's all we could do. Sleep. There was no food, no water, no source of entertainment whatsoever. It was just some mere weak humans hiding from becoming food. I needed to be strong, he hasn't eaten in 4 days, I needed to be strong not only for me but for him. I loosened the grip on his fragile body to see him fast asleep. I gently placed him back on the edge of the mattress and as quietly as I could I slid off the mattress. I grabbed a bunch of boxes nearby and slid them across to hide him.
"Please be safe," I mumbled before turning my back on him and walking away.
Little did I know that it would be the last time I ever saw him again.
A year later, I'm more murderous than ever, I knew exactly who took him and I know exactly who to kill.
I lifted the blade to meet my eye-line and whirled it forward, holding the sword with one hand I reached the other hand into my belt and grabbed the wooden stake within the second I sprung forward stabbing the mattress. Breathless I stepped back glaring at the mattress which by now was covered in numerous stab wounds. I smiled to myself, I'm almost there.
My arms and legs aching I slumped in the corner, letting my body rest. I shut my eyes, and the same dream that played in my head for the last year came into play. My body felt light, like a feather but I moved at the speed of lighting wielding the long sword I plunged it into the cold bloodsucker, his eyes wide open turning white and seeing his lifeless body in front of me sent a satisfying feeling down my body, my spine stiffened. An evil smirk formed on my lips.
"Happy you left me alive now?" I sneered but darkness surrounded me, I panicked. Snapping back into reality my hands holding my neck while I coughed up gasping for air. Something was wrong, this time I went further, I had never spoken to him before.
I always just stabbed him and woke up but this time I spoke. I shivered. It's nothing. I have to keep training, I have to keep fighting. A weak human can never beat a murderous vampire who kills for sport. But I will change that. I will be the one to kill him. To make him feel what I felt. Not just for me but for my brother, mother and father who he slaughtered. He probably doesn't even remember because he slaughters for fun but I will make him remember. I will make him regret. I will end him.
I sighed grabbing the little drawing my brother had made. A tear dropped on the paper, I quickly wiped it off. This was all I had left of him that kept me sane, I couldn't lose it. I smiled a the picture of two stick figures, a little boy and a girl with a big smile named Rose. I couldn't even recognise the girl anymore, if only he could see how much she has changed. Wonder if he would be proud of what his sister has become now?
