Open this diary only if you’ve ever wondered how one ordinary decision could change countless lives.
Have you ever stood between two people willing to risk everything for you, while you still believed you weren’t worth saving?
Dear Diary… today, I learned that the greatest battles aren’t always fought with claws and strength. Sometimes, they’re fought with trust, sacrifice, and secrets that refuse to stay buried.
The enormous black wolf burst forward with terrifying speed, its paws shattering the stone pavement beneath it as it charged directly toward me. My legs refused to move.
My heart hammered painfully against my chest, and the only thing I could do was stare into those savage golden eyes that were filled with nothing but hunger and determination.
Around us, students screamed and fled in every direction while teachers desperately tried to lead them into the school building. The peaceful academy I had walked into only hours earlier had become a battlefield, and I still couldn’t understand how my ordinary life had disappeared so quickly.
“Marionette!” Jack shouted, his voice filled with a panic I had never heard from him before, and at almost the exact same moment, another voice called my name. “Move!” Gabriel yelled as he rushed toward me from the opposite direction.
Everything just blurred together. My breathing became shallow, and time itself seemed to slow. Jack reached me first, grabbing my left hand with surprising strength and pulling me toward him.
Before I could even regain my balance, Gabriel caught my right wrist and tried to pull me in the opposite direction, shielding me from the charging wolf.
For one impossible moment, I stood between them. The future Alpha of the Briggs family held one hand, and the heir of the Sterling family held the other.
Neither of them was willing to let go, and neither of them cared about the danger racing toward us. Jack’s blue eyes remained fixed on mine. Even surrounded by chaos, they held the same quiet determination that had always made my heart race.
“Marionette,” he said firmly, his voice calm despite the madness around us, “look at me. Don’t think about anything else. I’m going to get you out of here. I won’t let anyone hurt you. I… made that promise the day I realized you had become someone I couldn’t lose.”
Tears immediately blurred my vision. “Jack…” I whispered, my voice trembling. “Why do you keep risking yourself for me? Every single time something terrible happens, you’re always the one standing in front of me. Aren’t you afraid? Don’t you ever think about what could happen to you?”
Jack’s expression softened, but then he smiled in the midst of it. “Of course I’m afraid,” he admitted quietly. “I’m afraid every time you smile because I wonder whether it’ll be the last time I get to see it. I’m afraid every time you walk home alone because I can’t follow you openly. I’m afraid every time you cry because I know I can’t erase every reason behind those tears.”
He smiled gently. “But none of those fears matter if it means you get to live another day.” His words left me speechless, and before I could answer, Gabriel tightened his grip on my wrist, his face filled with emotions I had never noticed before.
“Marionette,” he said, his voice carrying equal parts frustration and sadness, “don’t look only at him. Please… look at me too.”
I turned toward him, his usually confident smile was gone. For the first time since I had met him, Gabriel Sterling looked like an ordinary boy whose heart was quietly breaking as well.
“I know you’ve never returned my feelings,” he continued with a bitter laugh. “Believe me, I’ve noticed every polite rejection, every awkward smile, every excuse you made whenever I invited you somewhere. I always pretended they didn’t hurt because… I thought that if I stayed patient, one day you’d finally see me.”
He lowered his eyes. “But love doesn’t work that way.” He slowly looked back at me. “I don’t want you to choose me because my family is powerful. I don’t want you to accept me because people tell you I’m the better choice. I only wanted one chance to become someone who could make you smile.”
His voice cracked. “But every time you look at Jack…” He smiled sadly. “…your eyes already have.”
Silence settled between the three of us.
Even in the middle of a battle, neither Jack nor Gabriel looked away from me. The enormous black wolf snarled furiously, furious that its prey remained beyond its reach.
Arthur Briggs watched the three of us from several meters away. His sharp eyes slowly narrowed before he quietly muttered, “History really is repeating itself…”
Max Briggs heard him. “What do you mean?” Max asked in confusion. Arthur didn’t answer, instead, he just continued watching me.
Then, without warning, my diary slipped from my trembling hands. It struck the stone pavement with a loud thud. The sound echoed strangely across the courtyard.
Before anyone could pick it up, a powerful wind swept through the academy grounds. Its pages flipped wildly by themselves, moving faster and faster as though unseen hands were searching for something hidden inside.
Every wolf present froze, the Sterling warriors stopped fighting, the Briggs guards lowered their weapons, even the enormous black wolf backed away slowly.
Everyone stared at the diary. Arthur’s confident expression suddenly disappeared and his face turned pale.
“No…” he whispered under his breath. “That page… it was never supposed to open.” I looked at him in confusion. “What page?” I asked.
No one answered. Instead, ancient handwriting slowly appeared across the blank paper, each letter forming as though invisible ink had finally awakened after years of silence.
“When the Diary opens by its own will, the forgotten heir has awakened.”
A heavy silence swallowed the battlefield. No one moved, and no one dared speak. Another sentence gradually appeared beneath the first.
“The truth of seventeen years ago was buried beneath lies, betrayal, and blood.”
My breathing became uneven. “Seventeen years ago…” I whispered. “That’s… the year I was born.”
I looked toward Arthur. “What happened?” I asked desperately. “Please… someone tell me what happened.”
Arthur slowly closed his eyes. Pain spread across his face, it wasn’t the pain of someone remembering tragedy, it was the pain of someone who had carried guilt for far too long.
Jack looked at his grandfather with confusion and disbelief. “Grandfather,” he said quietly, taking one careful step forward, “you knew about this… didn’t you?”
Arthur remained silent still. Jack’s voice grew heavier. “All these years… you’ve known what that diary really was.”
Arthur finally spoke, though his voice had become unusually tired. “I spent seventeen years hoping the truth would remain buried.”
His words sent chills through everyone present. Gabriel stared at Arthur. “What truth?” he asked. “What happened seventeen years ago that both our families refuse to talk about?”
Again, Arthur said nothing. His silence answered every question. The diary continued writing, as one final sentence slowly appeared before the pages stopped turning.
“Find Rowan Ashcroft… for he alone remembers the night the Luna disappeared.”
The silver ink slowly faded. The pages gently closed by themselves. The wind disappeared and the academy became silent once more.
Far above Crescent High, hidden on the rooftop of an abandoned building across the street, Rowan Ashcroft stood beneath the shadows of his hood, watching the scene unfold from a distance. His expression carried both relief and sorrow, as though he had waited nearly two decades for this very moment.
“So,” he murmured quietly to himself, “the diary has finally revealed the first secret. It won’t remain silent anymore.”
A cold voice suddenly emerged from the darkness behind him. “You’ve waited seventeen years, Rowan.” Another hooded figure slowly stepped into the moonlight, their face hidden beneath a long black cloak.
The stranger folded both hands behind their back before speaking again. “Tell me… will you finally reveal what truly happened on the night the Luna disappeared?”
A long silence followed that very hour. Rowan looked toward the academy one last time. His eyes settled on me, fhen he answered in a voice barely above a whisper. “I have no choice anymore.”
The mysterious figure smiled beneath the hood. “Then prepare yourself, because once Marionette learns the truth…the war between the Briggs and Sterling families will never be stopped.”
