Zoie dropped onto the couch as Alice stood there with a soft smile on her face. It had been weeks since she left the home leaving her two sisters behind. Zoie and Alice had been staying at a luxurious and secluded small home located in Beacon, New York. During their time together, Alice had taught Zoie how to control a few of her powers.
It started with her asking Zoie to not be afraid of her powers which resulted in Zoie showcasing her telekinetic abilities that she had taught herself how to control along with her mastery level of puppetry. Zoie’s new powers had managed to kick in, which was Elemental Manipulation. She was more than glad that during their month together, Zoie had figured out how to control her new powers.
Alice watched as Zoie stood from the couch and looked at her reflecting in the mirror. She could recall Zoie telling her about her killing sprees and how her eyes would change colors and she’d harm anyone. She recalled Zoie going into details on how she felt as she committed her crimes and how she felt as if there was more to her powers that she didn’t know about and Alice said nothing because she was correct.
Alice realized that there was more to Zoie yet she was tragically out of time. Alice watched her girl as she tranquilly kept on checking her appearance in the mirror. Alice wanted to do nothing more than grab all 3 of her daughters and hug them tightly because she knew that her time amongst the living was now coming to an end.
“Zoie?” Alice called out.
“Yes mother?” Zoie answered.
“You and your sisters must stick together. This world is not ready for your kind. These people will be afraid of you and will do anything to get rid of you simply because they believe that your kind will be the reasoning behind humanity being destroyed.”
"What are you rambling about, mother?" Zoie said as she turned to confront the lady.
“I need you to understand that you girls were never the problem. Humanity will destroy itself long before you and your kind will.” Alice revealed.
“Mother, you’re sounding very weird to me right now.” Zoie replied as she chuckled.
Alice grabbed Zoie’s hand and continued. “Whatever happens in this life of yours, do not let anyone come between you and your sisters. You must protect one another. I fear that we are out of time but I need you to know that I am always thinking of you and your sisters.”
“No.” Zoie muttered.
“I need you to understand that I am always here. Just because you cannot see me physically doesn’t mean that I am not around because I am. I am always watching over you girls and I will continue to do so until we meet again.” Alice whispered.
“You cannot leave right now, mother. I’m not ready for you to go yet.” Zoie cried. “We haven’t had enough time and I need you here. Since you left, I have been broken and lost. There was a piece of me that left when you passed on and I can't proceed without you."
Alice pulled Zoie into a hug. “You can continue on without me and you must continue on without me. You have a life to live, Zoie. You need to live it. Do not allow your fears to control your life. There is still more than enough time for you to fix everything but you have to take that leap of faith.”
Zoie pulled away from the embrace and gave Alice a tragic grin. Holding her hand, Zoie lead her mom to one of the rooms higher up. Since being in the separated home, Alice would walk Zoie to her room for the evening. They would never say goodnight to each other. Alice would always say to Zoie that she would see her in the morning and kept her promise - each day, Zoie would be welcomed by her mom anticipating her appearance in the front room.
As Zoie pushed the bedroom door open for Alice, Alice entered the room and walked towards the bed. Zoie stood in the entrance of the doorway as she watched her. Alice gave Zoie one last smile as Zoie prepared to close the door.
"Goodnight Mother." Zoie murmured realizing that it was a farewell.
"So long, my dear." Alice answered as Zoie closed the door shut. It would be the last time she and her daughter held a discussion together.
As Zoie strolled into her room and shut the door behind her, she wiped away the tears that had rolled down her cheeks as Mr Lonely by Bobby Vinton played delicately.
Simone and Kira laid around the house in stress. It had been a month since Zoie's vanishing. In the wake of leaving the establishment, Simone got back just to be welcomed by Kira who looked out for the patio for her appearance. Without saying a word to each other, the two sisters embraced. There had been no indications of Zoie in the news leaving them to ponder where she could have gone.
Realizing that she couldn’t sit in the same spot hidden while many superhumans were being killed, Simone made it clear that she planned to fight back. She would not allow the government to get away with hurting innocent people anymore. Expecting Kira to not agree with her decision, Simone was shocked that Kira supported her decision and would fight with her. Using her telepathic abilities, Kira sent a message through mind link across the entire state revealing where they’d be.
Holding her hand out, Simone waited for Kira to take it. Kira grabbed her hand as Simone teleported the both of them out of the living room and near the Statue of Liberty. Standing there, Simone laid eyes on all of the police officers who stood there with their firearms pointed at them.
“Are you sure you’re ready for this?” Kira whispered.
“Hell no.” Simone mumbled. “I’m panicking right now but you can’t tell.”
Kira looked at her. “You’re right! I can’t tell.”
“I look calm but I really want to piss on myself.” Simone stated. “I could care less about these little a*s guns but you don’t see that big a*s man back there on that big a*s tank?”
Kira chuckled. “Yes. You ready?”
“Let’s do it.” Simone answered. Without saying another word, Simone stepped forward. As Kira prepared to do the same, a familiar voice caught her attention again causing her to freeze.
“I love you, Kira. For all eternity, I love you.” Alice whispered.
