None of the group had expected this. In front of them, high on a hill, stood a series of buildings the like of which none of them had ever seen. The sun, now at its zenith, reflected the whiteness of the walls. As they neared this wondrous sight, they realised it did not stand alone. On the lower slopes was a collection of more modest buildings. The first of were of simple design, a mixture of homes, shops and workshops. Higher up were larger, more substantial houses, not so crowded and with decorations, suggesting these belonged to a more privileged class. Theseus and his friends had no time to inspect any of these wonders; they were hurried through to the Palace above. Entering the Palace was like entering an entire city.
