We approached a small cabin that was covered in climbing ivy, and other than the smoke swirling lazily out of the chimney- it almost seemed abandoned. The porch was covered in spiderwebs and the small window on the front door was smashed, glass still glittering on the worn and broken wooden beams of the front porch floor. Eris helped us down and I could sense his alertness. His six eyes all narrowed at the cabin and a low grumble vibrated through his belly.
“Steady buddy,” Sera warned as she ran her hand over his neck. I wrapped her arm around my shoulders and helped her up to the steps to the porch. She was definitely still feeling the pain from the damage to her mate bond, and she was trying not to show it. But she didn’t turn away my help.
