Make no mistake, Nick has had friends before. His friends until high school were the ones who attended after-school advanced lessons with him. Their parents used to set “play dates" which was actually just a fun word for “more studying.” They were all basically cut from the same cloth: kids with rich parents who dictated their interests and hobbies, and didn’t want their children acquainted with the “wrong crowd.” By the time Nick entered college, he began to have more control of his social circles, but he found it even more difficult to veer away from the world he knew.
