After making sure Rachel was asleep, I decided to rest a little myself. If I was breaking us out of here, I was going to need the energy, but I couldn’t sleep. My thoughts were a mess. I’ve never thought I would be in a situation like this. I had always been a simple gal, with zero fashion sense, and unnoticed by the rest of her school. My old life seemed far away from wherever I am now. After what seemed like hours, I came up with a decent plan to get my family out of here. I thought of breaking out the other hostages, but it would be too much. I probably wouldn’t pull it off and the consequences would be fatal, for both the hostages and my family. Finally, I closed my eyes and slept… not knowing this was the one of the only nights in a long time I would be able to sleep.
When I woke up, I noticed Rachel wasn’t with me anymore. “No,no,no,no,no,no” I thought. “Where are you Rachel?” Immediately I was on my feet. I had to find Rachel. I searched among hostages, but she wasn’t there. The more time passed the more paranoid I grew. “Screw it,” I thought to myself, I’m getting out of this place. As if it was god sent, I saw a small door faintly stand out on one of the walls of this stadium or arena… I didn’t know yet.
Making my way to the door, I considered the risk of this being a set-up, but I was ready to take that risk if it meant saving my family. Looking closely at the door I noticed it wasn’t a door, more like exit that was well hidden with an old metal barrier, but I could make it work. Making as little noise possible I pulled the metal barrier aside and went into the exit. Now inside, the exit was more like a hidden metal tunnel. It was pitch black in there. As I kept crawling through the tunnels in pitch black darkness, I eventually saw my sorroundings to be less dim. I kept crawling and eventually found light. It was a small amount but still light. When I found the vent, I could see into the room on the other side. I pushed it very hard and eventually I got it off. I was pretty far away of the floor and there wasn’t such things as a stair or something I could hang on to near by, so I would have to take a fall. I jumped from the vent and fell on the hard floor. I took a look around the room and it was very lit and mostly white. For example, you know those padded rooms in the movies? This was just like one of them but bigger and less boring. I was really intrigued by this room… it was so neat. When I finally found a door, I opened it and ventured into the dark hallway. It was such a contrast from the white room. I didn’t like this building one bit. I mean I didn’t know where I was or my way back. After wondering for what was like half an hour, I noticed a less lit section of hallways. I couldn’t even see where they went. For some reason my gut told me this was the right place to find my family, I mean the darkness sort of secluded this section of hallways from the rest of this building ,so mustering all my courage I went into the darkness. I put one my right hand on the ways and kept walking. Nothing really happened and if I found something of value I kept it. I had found a 2 knives when suddenly I felt a switch “Bingo! Light switch!” I turned it on and Before me where all my family from Rachel to Grandma… tied, gagged and bleeding. John was there torturing them. It took him a moment to notice that the room was lighter and when he did he looked at me full of rage. “Hello Princess” he said , with his eye twitching. I’ve been waiting for you. “STOP!” I screamed at the top of my lungs “Don’t hurt them!!”. “Stop?”, John looked crazy “I’m just getting started”. Then he pulled out a gun and shot each and every one of my family members, from Grandma to Rachel in the head right in front of me.
No… no … no… my little sister gone, she was just a kid! Grandma, Uncle Charlie, Uncle Roman, Aunt Rina, my two nieces, they were 5 years old! My mom and Dad… my family… gone. Everything happened so fast, I couldn’t even say goodbye.
I don’t remember if I screamed, cried, fainted, or all of them. The only thing, I remember is their faces. Lifeless eyes, full of scars, purple, red and blue. John had taken everything I knew.
