Episode1
The unexpected meeting .
The city always seemed busier in the mornings, alive with footsteps, chatter, and the smell of roasted corn from roadside vendors. Sofia weaved through the crowd with quick steps, clutching the strap of her worn leather bag. She was already running late for work, her thoughts jumbled from another restless night spent staring at the ceiling.
Her office wasn’t far—just a twenty-minute walk—but today every minute felt heavier, like the world was conspiring to slow her down. She pulled her cardigan tighter against the cool morning breeze, silently wishing she’d gotten up earlier.
Halfway to work, she slowed at the corner café, a cozy little shop she often passed without stopping. The rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee drifted out, wrapping around her senses like a gentle invitation. Maybe, she thought, a quick cup would steady her nerves.
The café was warm inside, its soft lighting bouncing off polished wooden tables. Students typed furiously on laptops, a couple chatted over croissants, and the hiss of the espresso machine filled the air. Sofia joined the short line, absently brushing a strand of hair behind her ear as her eyes skimmed the chalkboard menu.
“You should try their caramel latte.”
The voice came from behind her—smooth, deep, and confident.
Sofia turned, startled.
The man standing there looked like he’d stepped out of a different world. Tall, effortlessly composed, his sharp suit molded perfectly to broad shoulders and long legs. His tie was slightly loosened, hinting at a long morning, but his eyes—dark and steady—were what held her still.
She blinked, caught off guard by the intensity of his gaze. “I usually just take black coffee.”
A faint smile tugged at his lips. “Then maybe today’s the day you try something different.”
Sofia gave a polite nod, turning back to the counter, though she could still feel his gaze like a weight on her skin. When it was her turn, she stuck with her usual black coffee, her voice a little too quick as she ordered.
But when the man stepped forward, his order came smooth, confident. “Caramel latte. Make it two.”
Sofia whipped her head toward him, eyes wide. “Excuse me?”
He gave a slight shrug, the corner of his mouth lifting in quiet amusement. “Consider it my recommendation. If you don’t like it, you can blame me.”
She didn’t argue. Something about him—his composure, his certainty—made her accept the drink without further protest.
When the cups were ready, he handed one to her with an ease that unsettled her more than she cared to admit.
“Thank you,” she murmured, her voice softer than she intended.
“Gabriel,” he said simply, as though offering more than just a name.
She hesitated before replying, “Sofia.”
His smile deepened, eyes lingering on her face in a way that made her pulse quicken.
When she finally left the café, the cup warm between her hands, she told herself it was just a chance encounter. Nothing more. But as she walked down the street, she couldn’t resist glancing back.
Gabriel was still there, watching her. His gaze was unreadable, but it carried a weight she couldn’t shake.
Something in her heart shifted, quietly but unmistakably, as though the universe had just turned a page in her life without her permission.
