I let Kun guide me across the small clearing to one of the larger huts, our silent escort trailing close behind with a hand resting on the curved blade at his hip. The makeshift dwelling was simple but surprisingly sturdy - woven walls of bamboo and dried grasses over a raised slatted floor, with a thatched roof providing shelter from the elements. As we ducked through the low entrance, I saw it contained just a few rudimentary furnishings - a couple of tightly-woven mats on the floor that must serve as beds, a tiny fire pit in the center with an opening at the top for smoke, and some basic cooking and water supplies arranged neatly nearby.
