1 Small Chance

Ted and Rick were arguing over who should get the last Delight, he and I had made some for breakfast and I had stupidly thought that there would be enough to last throughout the day so Ted could have some for later. I forgot werewolves sense of smell was very good and they smelled them wafting out of Ted's room, Rick knocked on the door asking if we had any extra. I said sure, Ted said no and now they're arguing over the last one left on the plate. Rick is saying he should have it because I'm Ted's mate and I can bake some for him any time he wanted and Ted's argument was that every time I did bake him some, someone always comes to take them. It was the most hilarious thing I've seen in a long time, I hopped off the counter I was sitting on and took the delight off the plate, I grabbed my bag, scratched my big boy behind the ears and bit into the delight. " Ted baby I'm going to be late for work, come on " they both turned looked at me waiting by the door happily munching on the very thing they were arguing about and their mouths dropped open. I chuckled and walked out of the room, hoping to get to the truck before Ted caught me, I did not make it. He caught up to me and swatted me on the bottom, " you little minx " I laughed " no one was winning and I was going to be late waiting on you two " He grabbed my hand and pulled me into him, lifted my chin and bent to kiss me " you owe me a Delight woman " I kissed him back and held both his cheeks in my palms " they're in the oven man " he stopped walking and looked at me like I just told him off " you mean you sat there watching us argue knowing damn well you had a batch in the oven? " I nodded as we walked through the pack house doors and over to where his truck was parked. " I figured I'd tell you after you dropped me off, maybe you'd actually get to eat them this time " he laughed " sneaky and sexy, what did I do to deserve you ". We got into his truck and he drove me to work, this trip is too short, I feel as though he's gone too fast when he drops me off " I'll come by for lunch today babe " he said, then he kissed my forehead and left the diner. The fry cook and I opened up after we had prepped and I had baked 20 batches of Delights, hoping they last till at least 10am. I go out front behind the counter and wait until the first set of customers come in.

The bell above the door jingled and I looked up from the newspaper I was reading and sighed loudly, " good morning Luna " I took a steadying breath and responded " good morning Trent, I am not your Luna " he and the other 2 men accompanying him chuckle. " See boys, I told you she was fiesty " I shook my head got my note pad and asked him if I could help them. I stood out of arms reach and I could see Trent was pissed, " I know the rules and laws of challenge Letti, I won't touch you inappropriately " I nodded and asked again if the were going to order, he huffed and asked for a cup of coffee. That's how I knew he came here to mess with me, after he ordered I asked his friends if the were going to order " hello Leticia is it? My name is Wendell, I'm the beta of the pack and this is Frederick our gamma " I nodded " nice to meet you gentlemen " they asked for eggs and bacon then a batch of Delights since almost everyone that came in asked for some. They ate while Trent just sat there and stared at me while nursing his cup of coffee, making me really uncomfortable. The beta and gamma told me they really loved the Delights and ordered some to go, Trent took the opportunity to grab my hand when they were paying for their food " Letti can make you all the pastries she wants when she's officially your Luna, but all of her delights belong to me " he growled. I shivered and dry heaved, which only made Trent angry, he tightened his grip on my hand and pulled me into his body, he whispered in my ear " I don't care what happens at this challenge, if I can't have you neither can he " he growled at me " Trent just go " I begged him to leave , I sighed and told Bobby our fry cook that I'd call a replacement for me and work the bar tonight, hoping Trent would stay away if I wasn't at work.

I sighed, I can't wait for all this challenge nonsense to be over so my life with Ted can begin. I worked until Sarah showed up and thanked her for coming in on such short notice, she said she was happy to do it as she didn't really enjoy working nights, " you should of told me Sarah, I'll have you work the diner regularly and pick up your bar shift until I find someone who can do it full time " she hugged me and thanked me profusely.

I didn't want to disturb Ted, I knew he was training all day everyday to be ready for this challenge, he always made sure to come have dinner with me and he slept next to me every night, it was the best feeling ever. I decided I'd go do some grocery shopping in town before calling Rick and asking if someone could come get me, the guys weren't letting me walk home alone since Trent was about. I grabbed my stuff, thanked Sarah again and walked to the small store a few feet away, I walked around and picked up the things I'd need for the dinner I was planning. I went over to the frozen section looking for some salmon or any other nice fish I could find when Wendell came right next to me speaking in hushed whispers " I have to talk fast, my pack does not want Alpha Phips to win this challenge, we hate him, we didn't even like him before he went to jail, he was always causing trouble within the pack ", he continued as I put some fish in my basket " we do not agree with how he became Alpha, our old Alpha was in mourning and weak, he took advantage of that, he doesn't deserve the title he holds, we would like to help your beta anyway we could " I gasped, his own pack doesn't want him to win, I'm honestly not surprised. " We have been training him slowly and poorly, he has zero skill and experience and challenged a well trained beta for his own mate, despicable! " He told me they would be very happy if he loses the challenge, " me too Wendell, me too " I laughed nervously. Wendell bumped my shoulder, we wish your mate good luck Letti, let him know he has allies and friends in the Midnight Moon pack ". I nodded and was a bit startled when I realised he was no longer there, so Wendell had antagonized his own pack, causing discord and disloyalty. I shook my head, sighed and took my stuff up to the register, I paid the clerk and struggled outside with the 6 bags of groceries I had bought, I got a lot of stuff but werewolves eat a lot. I was trying to balance the bags, my purse and my phone so o could call the guys and ask for some help " ma'am you look like you need some help " I looked up and Ted senior was grinning at me " hi Mr Levi you are a sight for sore fingers " he chuckled, " come on sweetheart my son sent me to come see what was going on he called the diner and they told him you left earlier " he took the 6 bags in 1 hand and walked me to the passenger side of the truck, opening my door for me. " I climbed in the truck and after he loaded the groceries in the truck he got in and drove me to my house, He helped me get everything stored away and told me someone was watching the house and there would be frequent patrols, I asked for Shadow, " your boy is training with Teddy, Alpha figured since Ted needed to practice in wolf form and so does Shadow so we're killing 2 birds with 1 stone " I was so happy with the way they've embraced him, " ok I guess I'll see the 2 warriors later " I chuckled and started prepping stuff for later, I marinated the fish and chopped veggies, made a homemade tartar sauce and put it in the fridge, then I made 4 batches of Delights since someone always popped up and took Ted's. I had just finished up when there was a knock at my door, I wiped my hands in my apron and went to the door, before I opened it I asked who it was. " Um Leticia....it's us your parents " my hand froze on the doorknob, I did not want to talk to these people, I stayed silent hoping they took the hint and walked away, no such luck they knocked again " Leticia we just want to talk to you, please " I threw the lock talk if you want " Leticia Summers! " that's my so called father now, shouting my name " we want to talk to you now! " I rolled my eyes " and I said talk " the woman who birthed me shouts " what kind of fools will we look like talking to a closed door Leticia? " I chortled " ha ha! The same kind of fools that had a child, raised and loved that child, had a happy family life and all because she didnt gain her wolf on her 18th birthday, you kicked her out of your house and never spoke to her again, left her at the mercy of the world. I'm not the 1st person to not gain a wolf and I won't be the last, I just hope and pray the next kid has better parents so they won't have to suffer the heartbreak that I did! ", " now say what it is you want or get the f**k off my doorstep "

" Well......we wanted to talk to you about your mating with the beta and this challenge " I chuckled " carry on " they continued " well Leticia you know Ted is a very good beta, we'd hate to see him bring his status down.....the pack needs a beta female as strong as her mate, we think you should reject him and move on with this Alpha from Midnight Moon " my mouth dropped open and as much as I tried to stop them tears fell from my eyes, anything I ever felt for these people, all the hurt and regrets I felt after they cast me out. I was shocked, hurt and speechless, " Leticia? " I sighed, walked back into my kitchen and continued cutting veggies, as I chopped tears fell on the cutting board, the vegetables and the knife. " Leticia?! " they knocked and called my name, I washed up and walked upstairs, stripped and stepped into the shower, sank to the floor and bawled. I cant believe that I was ever happy with these people, there's no way they ever loved me, maybe I was an accidental pregnancy. I just curled into a ball on the shower floor and cried while the water washed my tears away.

I must have cried myself to sleep, the next thing I remember was Ted lifting me out of the shower, bundling me in a towel and hugging me to himself in my bed " Letti....baby what's wrong, tell me what happened.....was it Phips? Did that bastard touch you?! " I sniffled and shook my head no, he stroked my hair and kept kissing my forehead. " What time is it Ted? " he checked his phone " its almost 8pm babe " I flew off the bed and ran downstairs, Ted ran after me " Letti what's the matter, talk to me, I'm your mate if I can help I most definitely will " I walked into the kitchen and started to prepare our dinner, he fell into step with me and pretty soon we had grilled salmon and vegetables with a homemade tartar sauce and a cherry pie for dessert. We sat down to eat after I had fed Shadow and ate in silence, I was mostly pushing food around my plate, Ted sighed, got up and came over to my side of the table, pulling his chair as close as possible, he put our plates side by side and everytime he ate a bite of food he put a forkful in my mouth. I didn't even realise when both of our plates were empty, Ted got up and took our dishes to the sink, he washed up then he came back to the table. " Do you want pie baby? " I looked at him and the dam bursts he looks horrified " I'm sorry no pie, bad pie, I'll throw the damn pie away! " I can't help it, I laugh my ass off at his reaction, I laugh until I cry and Ted is just looking at me and he's so confused. I reach for him and he lifts me into his arms, walks us to the couch and sits with me on his lap, I sniffle " the people who raised me came by this evening, they.....( sniffle) they asked me to reject you, so you wouldn't have to be saddled with a wolfless mate like me " I could feel Ted's anger, I felt his body shaking and he had started smelling my neck, I knew he was trying to calm himself down. " I swear to the moon goddess if I see the Summers when I go back to the village, heads will roll " I chuckle and grip him tighter, I raise my head and press my lips to his lips " Ted....would that make things easier on you...ya know...if I re " he grabbed my face " don't even think about finishing that sentence Leticia!, I told you I love you, I want you and I accept you as my fated mate, chosen mate, wife and whatever else title you want to take " I sniffle and drop my head on his chest, with a sigh of relief I ask him hold me, he stood and held me like a bride, he took me upstairs and we took a bath together, I washed him and he washed me, we got out of the bath and towel dried each other tenderly, he lifted me in his arms when we were both dry and took us to bed and he did just what I asked, he held me until I fell asleep feeling safe and loved wrapped in his arms.
