THE WEIGHT I CARRY 🙌
The Weight I Carry
Chapter One: The Day I Couldn't Stop Running
Some people say love begins with a smile.
Mine began with panic.
It was just another ordinary day. I wasn't expecting anything special to happen. Looking back now, I wish I had known that one moment could change the direction of my life.
There was a man, he was talking to me and I was distracted then I told him u liked ayatu, then he said he would call him
when he did I immediately ran into my house and he talked to him.
the next day I was sitting discussing with the man and I Said
"if ayatu is here I will face him and tell him I like him "
the man laughed " u sure about that? "😮💨💔
Maybe it was the way I looked around whenever his name was mentioned, or maybe I wasn't as good at hiding my feelings as I thought I was.
With a smile, he looked at me and said,
"Should I call him for you?"
I laughed nervously.
"He's probably not even at home," I replied.
That thought made me feel relaxed. Since I believed he wasn't around, I didn't mind.
"Go ahead," I said.
The man called him.
I stood there quietly, waiting without a single worry in my heart.
Then...
The gate opened.
Ayatu walked out.
For a second, everything around me went silent.
Our eyes met.
My heart almost stopped.
"Oh no..."
Before my brain could even think, my legs had already made the decision for me.
I turned around and ran upstairs as fast as I could.
I didn't care who was looking.
I didn't care how strange I looked.
All I knew was that I was too embarrassed to stand there.
My cheeks felt hot.
My heart was beating so loudly I thought everyone could hear it.
"What is wrong with me?" I whispered, covering my face with both hands.
I had imagined meeting him before.
In every version inside my head, I looked calm.
Confident.
Graceful.
Instead...
I ran away.
The man couldn't stop laughing.
"Why did you run?" he called after me.
I was too shy to answer.
I stayed upstairs, hiding behind the wall, hoping Ayatu hadn't noticed how embarrassed I was.
Every second felt like forever.
I wanted to look outside.
I wanted to know if he was still there.
But I was too scared.
After a while, everything became quiet again.
Someone told me he had gone back inside.
I slowly walked downstairs, pretending nothing had happened.
Inside, though...
I couldn't stop thinking about him.
I kept replaying the moment our eyes met.
I didn't know why seeing him made me so nervous.
Maybe it was because he was different.
Maybe it was because, without realizing it, my heart had already started making room for him.
That day ended like every other day.
Or so I thought.
I had no idea that the boy I had been too shy to face...
Would one day become the person I'd laugh with, cry over, pray for, and remember long after everything had changed.
At that moment, he was just Ayatu.
I didn't know he was about to become...
The weight I would carry.
