Hi, I’m new
“Find me in the dark. I’ll be in the stars. Find me in your heart. I’m in need of your love”— Your Love by Nicki Minaj
Davina Alice William POV
I’ve haven’t been to school in a long time. The last time I was in school was in 2nd grade, after that my parents pulled me out and started homeschooling me. I never liked it but I could do anything about it. I’m just need to take my SAT and then I’m off to business school, I want to be CEO of my dad’s company— well, my parents do.
My father owns this huge business corporation— a Law Firm. A lot actually. Absolutely Law Point— that’s the name. He has one in Japan, five in the United States and two in the UK. He makes at least 7 figures. My mother is a Lawyer as well. She way younger than my dad, there’s a 8 years age gap. My mom is only 47, my dad is 55. They met High School. They have 11 kids, 7 boys and 3 girls. My mom had my oldest brother in Senior year and continued living their life’s.
We just go back from Japan and I’m going to school, I’m fine with it because I’ve been wanting to go for so long but my parents didn’t approve, yet.
I just didn’t know how I would feel being around so many people around me. I have anxiety, and OCD, it’s not bad but I like to organize, and I hate when people mess with my thing and put it in other places, I’m bit of a perfectionist when I want to be. Very Bipolar behavior.
My best friend, Elijah but I call him Eli, was driving us to school. He was always been in my life since we were babies.
We were going to the same school.
We wore these uniforms, the skirt and tie was red plaid color, the button up shirt was white, navy blue jacket, black shoes, they were kind of heeled with tall white socks.
“Are you ready?” Eli asks, looking at me with sadness.
“Yeah.” I sign. I look out the window of the car, looking at the at the huge building.
“Hey, I promise you are going to have fun. I’ll be there, holding your hand.” He gets my hand and starts caressing it.
“But you go to this school, of course it’s going to be fun, I’m just going to be a tag along.” I groan. I grab my hand and wipe it off with my skirt.
“Hey! I was trying to calm you down but if seems like your fine.” He open his car door and steps out, then he comes over to my side and opens the door for me.
“I thought you were mad at me.” I said.
“I can never stay mad at you.” He gave me a warm smile.
“Okay.” I step out of the car and realization hit me.
I’m going to school.
I squeal. I grab Eli’s hand and run to the front.
I’ve never been this happy since my mom bought me that cotton candy machine I wanted for months. I can’t believe I’ll be having the High School dream. I’ve watched all the high school musical’s, the Mean Girls, I think my favorite was Legally Blonde.
When I get to the front door Eli pulls my hand back.
“What’s wrong?” I ask concern written all over my face.
“I just want you to know that... in school I’m a different person. Just don’t take it to heart okay. And... I have a girlfriend. Let’s go.” He grabs my arm and walks into the school.
“You have a what?” I shouted.
We walk down the hall, going to the front desk. All the boys were eye-balling me, saying things like ‘fresh meat’ or ‘them legs look like a nice price of steak’. All because I like chicken, my ass really had to betray me today.
“Don’t listen to them.” Eli said under his breath.
“Okay.”
*****
“So you’re going to be out new student?” The woman at the front desk said to me.
“Yes ma’am.” I said with eye contacts
“How old are you?”
“17.”
Why is she asking all these questions. I know my body is a little over developed for a small person but damn, don’t make it known that you don’t like me.
“Here is your schedule. Have a nice day.” She said with the fakest smile ever.
We walk out of the office and I just had to say it. “Was she being me to me or what?”
“She was racially profiling you.” He said without looking at me.
“Oh.”
It was silent for a while until I changed the subject to something more mood lightening.
“How do you greet people here?” I ask with a laugh.
“Are you serious? You don’t know how to greet people in America?”
“I go in between the UK and Japan all the time. I forgot.”
“Okay, well you don’t have to do anything fancy just say ‘Hi’ and continue with the conversation.” Eli said with a smile.
“Okay.” I smile back.
“Class doesn’t start until 9:45 so we have 18 minutes before class starts, how about you meet my friends.”
“Okay, but what if they don’t like me.” I said, my voice tainted with sadness.
“You don’t have to worry. They’re going to love you.”
We walk into the cafeteria and I almost fainted. So many flipping people.
How will She survive? See you on another episode of Dragon Ball Z.
Kidding.
But there were a lot of people.
“I swear to god I’m going to die.” I told Eli.
“No you’re not.” He takes my hand and leads me to a table with a four other people. He takes a seat next a brunette and I sit next to him, not trying to be clingy but I don’t know any of these people.
“This is my best friend and sister, Davina.” Eli introduced me.
I shyly wave at everyone.
“Nice to meet you.” They all say.
“So, what is your parents’ profession?” The brunette said.
“They’re lawyers.” I answer.
“Nice.” A boy at the end of the table said.
“I should introduce you to everyone.” Eli said.
“You think.” I said in a ‘duh’ tone.
He puts his hands on the brunettes’ shoulder. “This is my girlfriend, Tanya.”
“Nice to meet you.” I said.
“He talks a lot about you.” She said, eyeing me down.
Eli clears his throat. “The one on the far end of the table if Jordan, the one next to him is Chris, and the other girl is Paris.”
“Yup, now are your breast fake.” Paris said.
Eli and I look at each other, making eye contact and we start laughing. I start slapping his arm, gently as I try to get air to my lungs.
“No. I swear everyone asks that.” I said in between my laughs.
“Oh, that’s a good one.” Eli said.
When we finally stop laughing. Eli took his phone and started calling my brother.
“Why you callin’ him?” I said.
“You’ll see.”
When his phone stopped ringing I hear my brother, Oliver’s groggy voice. “Hey, what’s up.” Oliver said on the other line.
“Add another tally.” Eli said with a chuckle.
I hear shuffling in the background as if he was getting out of bed. “That is our 146 person.”
“Wow. You guys are weirdos.” I huffed.
“It’s okay. Even I had to asked if your melons were real.” Oliver said with a laugh.
I gasp. “First of all, they are not that big and shouldn’t you be at work?”
“Oh shit.” Oliver said under his breath. “See you guys later.” He hung up and I chuckle.
“Your no fun.” Eli said. “I purposefully turned off his alarm so he was late.”
“Now that’s mean.” Paris said.
I nod.
“So, how old are you?” Tanya asks.
“I’m 17.”
“Isn’t you birthday next weekend?” Eli said.
“Oh. I totally forgot but your right. I can’t wait.” I squeal.
The bell rings and everyone in the cafeteria started to leave.
“What’s on your schedule?” Chris asks.
I take my schedule out of my backpack and looks at it. “I have History, Math, Science, PE, English, and Spanish.”
“Cool.” Chris cheers.
“I have football practice later so you will have to stay for a while.” Eli reminds me.
I nod.
“You also have Science without me.”
“Figured.” I said. “You terrible at science so you have a private tutor.”
We all get up out of our seats and walk out of the cafeteria, we part was but Eli stays with me since the majority of my classes are with him.
******
History class was okay but that teacher talked so fast that I have no clue what he said.
“I know he talks fast but you’ll just have to record him and then slow him down.” Eli chuckled.
“Not funny.” I frowned.
“On Friday, The Ashford’s are having a formal party that we have to go to. All of our families are going.” Eli informed me.
“Can’t wait.” I said sarcastically.
“It’ll be okay.” He rubbed my back.
“Babe.” Some one yelled behind us.
We turn around and Tanya throws herself onto Eli almost making him fall. “I want to show you something.” She said.
Eli looked at me with concern. “I’ll be fine, I need to go to my locker anyways.” I tell him.
“Make sure to take your anxiety pills.” He reminded me, then walked off with Tanya.
Talk about clingy.
I walk over to my locker and put in my combination: 45-23-78. I open my locker and put my History, Science and Spanish class books. My mom is Spanish and my grandparents force me to learn Spanish so I got the run down. My dad is American. My sister is a scientist and she taught me everything I know so I won’t be needing my book.
I close my locker. “Hey.”
I jump. “Who are you.”
“I’m Andre, you are?” He said.
“I’m Davina.” I pull my hand out of my pocket for him to shake. But he doesn’t shake it.
“Do you not do that here in America?” I say aloud.
“Your from London aren’t you?” He guessed.
“I am, but I was born in Japan.”
“Nice, Sayōnara.” He walks over to a group of boy.
What a weird boy.
I turn around and head to math class, one of my favorite subjects.
*****
I sit down in my seat in the back of the class where no one could see me. I look out the window and see that the whole school is surrounded but trees.
Everyone comes into the room and takes their seats, noise filled the room as they all talked about their summer break.
A male teacher walks into the room and the chattering stops and they all stand up straight in their seats.
“I am Mr. King as you all should know from last semester but for the know kids I am Mr. King, you may call me by my name or sir.” Mr. King said.
He was kind of tan as if he just came from the beach. He had black hair, brown eyes, a built body, and lean body.
He kind of reminded me of Taylor Laughtner, what a weird comparison.
“We also have an foreign exchange student. Davina Alice William.” Mr. King said making me the center of attention.
“Hi.” I said quietly.
“Now, let’s start class.” Mr King turned a to his chalkboard and wrote an equation. “Refreshers, what is the square root of 64.”
“8.” I said quietly.
I girl raises her hand. “It’s 8 sir.”
“Square root of 10,000.” He ask another question.
“10 to its fourth power.” I said- again in a hushed tone.
“Davina if you want to answer the question just raise your hand.” He said in a displeased voice.
I raise my head up, looking at him with confusion. He can hear me?
“Since you want to be a smartypants. What is 30 to is second power?” He ask while waking up to my desk.
“Um... 900.” I answer. He stands by my desk, staring down at me like a superior being.
“X to the second power plus 4 equals 20 what is x?”
“4.”
He smirks, turns around and stands in front of the class with a smile. “Davina is going to walk up here and write a hard equation on the board and one of you will answer it, since Davina’s mind is the sharpest today she will be teachers’ assistant.”
My mouth falls open.
No, I don’t need that.
“Don’t worry he does this every year.” Eli whispered to me.
I dig into my bag and get my math book in there and pull it out. I slowly get out of my seat and walk to the board. I open my book and pick up the chalk.
I write:
10q - 9q + 5q+4q =
“You really trying to fry my brain you know.” Eli groans.
“Maybe if you studied me, you would get it right away.” I huffed.
It took them a quick minute for them all to realize it was a trick equation.
“10q.” They all yelled.
I nod.
“You may sit Davina.” Mr. King said. I walk back to my seat and sit down. I let out a breathe that I didn’t even know I was holding.
*****
The bell rang and every started to pack up their things.
“Have fun in Miss. Smiths class. Please don’t be a show off.” Eli said.
“Okay, I’ll act like a noob and start crying when she calls me incompetent.” I said with fake sadness.
“Good, see you at lunch.” He said with a chuckle.
I get up from my seat and leave the classroom.
I walk out the classroom, bumping into a hard chest, look up wondering what I hit.
I make eye contact with these beautiful blue eyes that give me a strange feeling in my stomach.
He raises his eyebrow.
I clear my throat. “I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine.” He said in a deep manly voice.
The silence was so loud it was unbearable as we stared into each other’s eye.
“I’m very sorry Mr. Ashford. My sister is new here.” Eli’s voice breaks the silence.
“It’s actually fine. You should get to class.” He said.
Sadness mixed with anger enters me. For some reason I didn’t want to leave him. I wanted to continue staring into those gorgeous eyes.
Eli grabs my arm and grabs me away from my mystery man, making me whimper in sadness.
“Who was that?” I ask Eli.
“That was Anthony Ashford, he a billionaire that is friends with Mr. King.”
*****
So it seems like I met this super rich guy that I should stay away from cause he’s a womanizer.
Cue Britney Spears.
Anyways, he want me to stay far away from him because he’s look for a young wife, preferably teenagers.
Even though he told me he didn’t want me to be near him, I felt this pull.
I want to see him again.
“That will be all for today. You all are dismissed.” Miss Smith said.
I get up from my seat and head to the door.
I wonder where he work. What he does for a living. How old is he. Oh, I think I’m obsessed.
I walk to the cafeteria. I got to the groupies table and sit next to Eli.
“Can I postmate food here.” I ask everyone.
“Yeah.” Chris answers.
“What are you gonna get.” Eli asks.
“Panera Bread. You want something?” I said.
“No, I love my baby carrots.” He laughs.
I order my Panera Bread and waited for the deliver guy to show up.
My brother starts to text me:
Miles: How’s school?
Me: Okay. What are you doing?
Miles: I’m putting Lana to sleep.
Me: Give that cutie a kiss for me.
Miles: I will. Make sure you say away from those prepubescent boys.
I scoff.
Me: Sure.
I get a notification on my phone that my food had been delivered, when I went start to get up to get it Eli stops me and tells me he’ll get it.
“We’re you and Eli a thing.” Tanya asks me.
“What?” I said in disbelief. “I could never date Eli he’s my brother from another mother. Plus he...” I look at her chest and abandon my sentence.
“Plus he what?” Paris said.
“Nothing.” I whispered.
I see Eli coming back with a scowl on his face; glaring at me with anger or was he looking at Tanya.
He places my food on the table, he then stares at Tanya. “What did I tell you. Me and Davina have never dated and we never will.”
How did he know.
“Stop being so insecure.” Eli said.
“Talk about insecure, I’m not going to the beach on Sunday.” I said.
“Why not.” He said sadly.
“Have you see my feet?” I said.
“Yo big foot ass. Just put on sneaker. Easy peasy.” He smiled as if he just found the leprechaun.
I roll my eyes. “Thanks but no one wears sneaker to the beach.”
“Yes they do.”
*****
As Eli drove me home, my mind kept on think about Anthony Ashford. His eyes were so mesmerizing.
“Why you thinking about.” Eli asks.
“Nothing.” I shrug.
“Come on, I’ve known you all my life and you staring into the distance means your living in your thoughts.”
“Fine, I want to know more about Anthony Ashford.”
“I told you he’s a bad guy.” He said angered.
“What if he’s my soulmate? I can’t let anything go past me.” I looked at him with anticipation waiting for his answer.
“Fine, since you want to know so much.” He takes a long breathe.
