Chapter Ten- Denial

His lips were soft. She had no control over her hands, as they trailed around his neck, and her fingers circled around strands of his hair, pulling on it softly. Their lips broke apart, as they both struggled to breath, but their faces remained close together.         She looked up to meet his eyes, and he needed no more to crash his lips back on hers. It wasn't like those other times when their lips had hardly touched and they had felt the sparks tickle their lips. This time, it was a passionate, hungry and needy kiss that soon turned into a full out make out session.  He bit down on her bottom lip softly and pulled on it slightly, provoking a small moan to slip out of her mouth, and their tongues swirled around each other, as soon as she opened her mouth. He felt her pull on his hair a little harder and was grateful for his long hair. He unconsciously let out a small groan, as his hands trailed lower, and he pulled her even closer to him. He dug his fingers harder into the soft fabric over her butt cheeks, and heard a small moan from her. He broke the kiss to trail soft kisses along her jawline, down to the base of her neck. One of her legs was now in-between his legs, their hips grinding against each other as he tried to push their bodies even closer.         As Xavier placed small pecks on her neck, and proceeded to suck on her sweet spot, she tilted her head back to give him more space; she was giving in completely. She felt his canines scratch against her neck , the place where she should bear his mark proudly, and just like that, she was out of her trance. Her eyes snapped open like she had been splashed with ice cold water.  In her state of shock, she pushed him off of her with so much force, he smashed against the wall, not far from where they stood. The impact was so strong that he bounced off the wall, revealing that some of the wallpaper had peeled off of the kitchen wall, and he fell to his hands and knees.         Xavier didn't even know what hit him, literally. One moment he was about to mark his very willing mate, the next he was on all fours on his kitchen floor, struggling to keep his back straight. His widened eyes traveled to her instantly, and what he saw made him forget how to breathe.  Her eyes were completely black, no sign of any white at all. "NO" she all but growled at him, then just disappeared right before his eyes like a magic trick. He let out a breath, as he started to breath again, barely. He let himself fall to the floor completely and rolled onto his back to straighten his spine. 'What the f**k just happened?' He thought to himself as he felt his bones snap back into place. It was a good thing he was used to all the bone cracking, from shifting, but it was still painful. The fact that it was his own mate causing him physical pain made the pain in his chest even stronger than if he had broken every bone in his body.        He decided to let her be for a while instead of looking for her, and went straight to his office, she clearly needed her space. He was shaking his head slightly, still not sure what exactly had happened, when he crashed into Adam, and popcorn flew all over the living room.         "Nooooo, my popcorn!" Whined Adam, like he had just lost the most precious thing and stood there, hugging his giant, now half empty, bowl of popcorn. "Bro, what is wrong with you?" He sounded like Xavier had just insulted his mother.        Xavier let out a sigh and just stepped around him to continue his way. He was so deep in thought he didn't even notice Adam follow behind, or Ethan add to their group, until he sat at his seat and they both sat in front of him on the other side of his desk.         "What do you want?" He asked them grumpily.        "Well someone forgot to take his happy pills this morning" said Adam smirking. Ethan coughed a little to cover his laugh, once he was over it he asked, "what's wrong with you?"        Xavier sighed and combed a hand through his hair. "It's Lucia, I've-"        "Uuuuuggghh" Adam groaned before Xavier could finish. "Not the mates, again! I'm out of here," and just like that he stood up and left the office.        Xavier and Ethan were left there open mouthed, staring at the door. "Mmm okaay... So, what's the problem with the Luna?" Ethan asked after turning back to look at Xavier.        "We kissed" he smiled softly, remembering their little moment.        "Duuude, congrats! Feels amazing doesn't it?" Ethan countered, remembering what his first kiss with Lily had felt like.        "Yeah, it's like- it's like nothing I've ever felt before- ugh I can't even describe it." He slammed his forehead on his desk and let out a muffled "oow"        Ethan's laughter boomed in the room, making Xavier raise his head from his desk and raising a brow at his friend.  "Don't worry bro, I know exactly how you fee-"        "No you don't. Lilly loves you man. Lucia pushed me away so hard I almost broke a wall, and it was so fast I didn't even know what happened until she was gone, and she just left me there on my knees, struggling to even draw a breath." he exhaled in a huff.        "Lilly does love me doesn't she?" Ethan asked with a wide smile.        "Rub it in my face" Xavier mumbled under his breath, leaning back in his chair and crossing his arms in front of his chest.       "Hahaha calm down. I mean it took a while for Lilly to warm up to me, and I'm still working on it. She hasn't even let me mark her yet" he chuckled lightly, "but being with her is worth it. The first time I kissed her, man she punched me so hard I thought my neck was going to permanently stay bent to the side" Ethan rubbed his check at the memory of the pain. There was no pain in the world that compared to the pain of losing a mate, and a mate causing another one pain was the first red flag.        "She punched you?" Xavier laughed over his shock        "Yeah man. Apparently a slap wasn't enough for kissing her without permission" Ethan sighed deeply.        "But Lilly is a werewolf too, why wouldn't she wanna kiss her mate?"         "Well..." He trailed off        "Well?" Xavier wasn’t one to pry but Ethan had picked his interest. He never really talked about his story with Lily so Xavier thought everything had been smooth sailing for them.        "We kinda had a little history, and I wasn't exactly nice to her you know? Then she left before I shifted, so I didn't know she was my mate. When she came back for the summer we had that thing in Vegas remember? So pretty much I didn't see her for like five years after I shifted. I always thought it was weird you know? That I always thought about her and it pissed me off, so I was really mean to her, really mean,” he sighed a little ashamed of himself. “But I was whipped even before I knew she was my mate, you know?" He finished laughing.        "But after you both met again she accepted it didn't she?" Xavier asked unsure. Ethan had been weird for some time after she came back, but he never told him or Adam about Lilly, not until she accepted him at least.        Lilly had moved to their pack when she was little. She was Adam's dad's cousin's adopted daughter. Basically, Adam's cousin, that's what he said until Ethan started asking about her and he told them the whole story. According to Adam, his dad had been really close to his cousin because they grew up together. She and her mate adopted Lilly when she was three. They died in a car accident when she was eight. Adam and his family flew over when the accident happened, and Lilly's mom managed to ask Adam's dad to watch over her, for she didn't want her daughter to go back to an orphanage. They brought Lilly back with them after that, and she joined the pack. She was three years younger than them and really shy due to all that happened, so Adam and Annie were really protective of her. When Lilly finished middle school, and before they started their senior year; the same year the four of them shifted, Lilly left. She left to spend the summer with her father's mother, and stayed with her. He never pondered on the reason, but now he wondered what exactly Ethan had done to her to make her not want to come back. Lilly stayed with her grandma her whole high School. She only came back during the summer before her senior year. During that time, the three of them were gone to training camp in Vegas, so they could assume their new position as soon as they turned twenty one. During that summer she bonded with Annie while they were gone. After high school Lilly went to some really prestigious university, already with an AA from a community college, due to dual enrollment. She had her bachelor's degree in literature, and worked a year for a company that she got a scholarship from. Then she came back to the pack and continued to work from there. At least that's the story he knew, and he didn't really know how the whole working from home thing worked.         "Not exactly." He rubbed the back of his neck, then cleared his throat. "Thing is, she still resented me for all the things I did to her. I mean who wouldn't? The last time she saw me I almost made her drown" he sighed again and shook his head before he continued, "anyways I don't want to remember that.” “But wait, Ethan I-” Xavier was really curious now, almost made her drown? What the heck had happened between them, and how had he not realized when Ethan was supposed to be one of his best friends?   “Look, don't worry OK?” Ethan cut him off before he could ask anything else. “I’m sure the Luna is just in denial." Ethan finished with a nod, feeling sure of his answer.        "Denial?" Xavier asked looking for a more elaborate answer from his friend, but he didn’t get any more than the one word answer.        "Denial."
