Chapter One- A Human Mate?

2009 Words
"XAVIER WHITE-WOLF, GET YOUR ASS DOWN HERE THIS INSTANT! YOU ARE ALREADY RUNNING LATE!"         Xavier White, 24 year old bachelor, alpha of the Black Moon pack. Feared by many, respected by even more, except for his obnoxious older sister Annie. If she could even be considered older; they were actually twins, but she had come to the world five minutes before him. Not that she cared, whether it was five minutes or five years, she was still older; therefore, according to her, she had authority over him.       He knew she was mad, she only ever referred to him by their ancient last name when she was.      White-wolf was the name given to their native ancestor because of the color of his wolf- which was unusual even in the beginning of times-, but over time, as wolves started to hide their existence from humans, the name had been cut to simply White.         Xavier walked down the steps slowly, yawning and rubbing the sleep from his eyes. His hair was sticking out in all directions and his shirt rode up his sculpted body as he stretched his arms upward then put his intertwined fingers on the back of his head.       "What's all the commotion about sis?" He looked at his sister with raised eyebrows, just taunting her anger.      "There you are. What are you doing? Why are you NOT READY!?" She finished, her voice rising considerably as she went on.      "I'm here; I'm walking to the kitchen to have breakfast, hopefully without you, and ready for what?" He answered giving her an innocent look, followed by an evil smirk before walking into the kitchen. "Xavier, you agreed to go on a date with my friend Stacy today, remember? The tall, beautiful one with blonde hair and blue eyes that's pretty much all around perfect for you?" She gave him a deadpan look to let him know exactly how appalled she felt that he could ever forget Stacy. "I remember her. I just don't remember agreeing to go on a date with her. All I said was 'whatever,' and that's not a yes." He said shrugging while he poured milk in his cereal. Before she could make any remarks,  he turned to face her with a serious face, "plus, you know I'm waiting for my mate, and before you say anything, I don't care how you feel or what you think about that. I'll keep waiting until I find her and that's that, I'll take no one else until then." With that he turned to his cereal, letting her know the conversation was over.      " You have got to be kidding me!" She yelled with her hands up in the air walking out of the kitchen.    "What crawled up her butt and died?" Came from the kitchen entrance. Xavier looked over his shoulder, only to see his beta and best friend Adam Rodriguez walking towards him.      "Hey watch it, that's my sister you're talking about" he replied and hit Adam in the back of the head once he had sat down next to him on the kitchen counter.       "She's upset because she set me up on a date with another one of her friends." Xavier shrugged casually.       It wasn't the first time his sister had tried to set him up, and things always ended the same way, yet she refused to give up.       "Oh joy" Adam said sarcastically as he rolled his eyes while his chin rested on the counter and he drew smiley faces with the droplets of water condensing on the milk carton. He yawned loudly, letting the world know that it was much too early to be awake.       Xavier's face suddenly brightened up, he sat up straight and turned to look at his friend, "maybe you should meet her friends, you know, one of them could turn out to be your mate" there was a shine in his eyes, that was quickly extinguished by Adam's response.  "X, dude, mates are overrated." He gave Xavier a look of disgust, before getting up to put the milk back in the fridge and rummaging through it before deciding there was nothing there worth his time and heading back the way he had come. Xavier's mate talk was the only thing that always managed to kill his appetite, he just didn't get it.       'Mates are overrated,' Xavier played the sentence over and over in his head; that's exactly what his sister always said too, that's why she kept setting him up with her friends. But Xavier still believed in mates; he had seen the love in his parents eyes and the bond they shared firsthand, and he wanted that for himself. He wanted someone who would love him unconditionally, someone that was made just for him as he was for her, someone that was fated to be his and only his forever. And he knew he deserved nothing less.        Once he finished his cereal, he met with Adam and their other best friend, and third in command, Ethan Smith, outside of his study.       Ethan had an unusual wide smile stretched across his face, causing his friends to give him funny looks, but he couldn't care any less.       They walked in and Xavier sat behind his mahogany desk, while Adam and Ethan sat on the two chairs on the other side. They talked about the business that they ran together to be able to maintain the pack financially, and about the pack issues that had come up as long as training schedules and schools for the kids.      It was past lunch time when Annie walked in without even knocking. "Hey, you bunch of losers are coming with us to the mall!" She announced rather than asked.  All three men turned to look at her with surprise in their faces. "No!" From Adam "Why?" From Xavier "Us?" From Ethan  They all talked at the same time. "Yes you are! Because pretty much all my friends are mad at me because of that brat," she pointed at Xavier. "And yes US, as in me and Lily." She said and looked back, only to see one as there. She looked down and sighed, then turned to look out the office door. "Lilly come on,"  she ushered, and a faired skin girl with long, pin straight, brown hair walked through the doorway with her head down, her bangs covering her beautiful honey brown eyes, hidden behind large rimmed spectacles.          Ethan immediately got up from his seat and walked towards her. He took her in his arms and hugged her, before whispering into her ear "hi baby, miss me already?" Then he kissed her in the lips right there where they stood, in front of everyone.          "Ethan! No PDA!" She said blushing, before lightly slapping his arm and pulling herself away from him.         "Yeah, I missed you too baby." He said, rubbing the back of his neck and smiling sheepishly. That shy part of her was one of the things that he loved about her the most, and maybe the only thing he hated as well.        Everyone else started laughing at Ethan, and Lily just blushed a deeper shade of red.         "OK, lets go." Ethan said as he took hold of Lily's hand and dragged her outside.         Xavier just sat there with his arms crossed and raised one eyebrow at Adam who had turned to look back at him again. Adam ust shrugged with a look of resignation on his face, then got up and followed after Ethan and Lily.       "I guess I have no choice then?" Xavier asked Annie once they were the only ones left in the room. She gave him a pointed look before replying, "nop," popping out the 'p,' and then walked out of the office to catch up with her friends.        Xavier rubbed his temples sighed before getting up and following his sister; he didn't want to make her any angrier at him than what she already was.        One hour later they were at the mall parking lot. Once he got out of the car Xavier got a scent that put him on edge. It was weak, like the person had been there hours before, and it was unlike anything he had ever smelt before. He decided not to think much of it since no one else seemed to notice it, so he shrugged it off and walked inside the mall beside everyone else.         They went to several stores, the guys just following the girls, before they decided they were too hungry to keep going. They walked to the food court and Xavier once again caught that intriguing scent. It was sweet and enticing, but at the same time, it was rich, strong, so strong it made him a bit drowsy. He looked at everyone else to see them scrunching up their noses. He frowned looking at their faces, to him the smell was delicious. "What's wrong?" He asked and everyone turned to look at him.         "You don't smell that?" Annie asked, looking at him like he was crazy.          "Dude, you need help, how can you not smell it?" Exclaimed Ethan, lowering his head to smell Lily's neck, she blushed but also inhaled deeply.        "I can smell it, I just don't see what's wrong with it," he said, shrugging.         "Ugh, are you kidding? Even I can see what's wrong with it, and I have alpha blood too. This scent reeks. I- I don't know, it's just so strong." She said hesitantly.        Then, suddenly, just like that, the scent was completely gone.      Appalled, they all turned their heads to where the scent was coming from. It had to be somewhere between the Mexican and Italian food stands. There were too many people there to know who exactly it was coming from, but it was impossible for it to just disappear after it was so strong before.       They all walked slowly to the other side of the food court where the Mexican and Italian food stands were. Once closer they could smell it again, this time it was just sweet and normal, but no doubt the same scent. They all looked at each other, then to the Mexican food stand that had two females and one male working inside, and a long customer line, all girls. It was too much of a mixture to know who the scent belonged to. They all shrugged it off and turned to go to the Chinese food stand. Xavier gave the girls one last glance and turned to walk with his friends feeling uneasy about not knowing who the scent belonged to.        They were all just finishing their food when Xavier caught sight of the most beautiful girl he'd ever seen, walking towards them. She had long, straight, black hair, with fiery red tips, ending at her hips, and bangs, with red tips as well. She had a perfect hourglass figure, with the smallest waist. She had legs that could go on for days, and thick thighs. She had a pale complexion, and her lips were painted bright red.       Xavier felt desperate to look at her eyes, but they were hidden behind black sunglasses. She wore a black skater skirt with red flowers on it, and a black leather jacket over a black, low cut, tight shirt.       Xavier felt his wolf stir up, and he took a deep breath, she was the owner of that wonderful scent.       'Mate' his wolf whispered in his head, making Xavier's eyes widen out of shock. By the time Xavier realized what was going on and turned on his chair to see where she went, the girl was gone and nowhere to be seen.       "Mate." The word was whispered out of his mouth unconsciously as he turned back to his friends, still in a state of shock. He was in such a shock that instead of getting up to follow her, all he could think about was how glad he was he hadn't gone on that date.      Everyone froze, eyes wide and silent. Annie was the first to break the silence with an unusually soft and calming voice. She saw how shaken her brother was and she didn't want to agitate him any more, but she still had to say something.      She tried looking him in the eyes, but his stare was lost, his eyes void, due to his current state of shock, "but X, she's a human."
