“W-what?! A human mate?!” I screamed, my eyes almost popping out of their sockets from shock. Is he even human? How could he have asked such a question!
“Are you crazy?!” I sarcastically asked, but all I saw was his cold aura radiating all over his body and the poker face he was wearing.
“I'm not in a hurry. I'll give you until midnight tomorrow. Remember, this deal is only between us. If you happen to mention it to someone…” he warned, pausing his statement as he stared at me murderously. “You'll be dead,” he added. I blinked my eyes away from the approaching light of a motorcycle, using my hand to shield the light, and when I checked, the man in front of me had vanished.
“How can he vanish so quickly in thin air, as if it's a new form of his body?” I was perplexed by the question, but ignored it quickly.. Right now, the most important thing for me is to go back to my apartment.
My feet took me in the direction of my home, still drowning in the aftermath of what had happened earlier.
“Am I dreaming?” I asked myself as I walked into the room. I flopped down on the couch with my sling bag.
“What on earth have I done? Am I dreaming, or have I gone insane? WAHHHHHHHH!” I rolled over, forgetting that the couch's foam would never be extended to me.
“Ugh,” I groaned in agony, collapsing on the floor with my face.
“What a d*mn, sh*t night! Unlucky bastard with yummy abdominal muscles! Sharp jaw, enchanting eyes, and… and… li — why am I thinking of that dog? ARGHHHHHH I'm really gone mad and crazy!” I blathered on, hugging myself in a ball on the cold floor, until I felt engulfed by darkness.
……
I am awakened by the sound of the door being smashed by a knock.
“What do you want?! It's too early to cause trouble!” I exclaimed aloud as I stretched to relieve body pain.
“Ouch, my back hurts,” I groaned as I walked towards the door, holding my back.
And who is going to wake me up in the morning, aish? I yawned angrily as I opened the door, hand in my hair, and faced the one who waked me up without consciousness of my precious sleep.
“YOU BETTER SPEAK QUICKLY BECAUSE YOU RUINED MY BEAUTY SLE — ep uhm hehe… hello Madam Lory,” I said to the witch who currently owns this house.
“When are you going to pay the rent?” Her question raised an eyebrow, and she fanned herself with the fan. “And are you complaining that I woke you up at this hour?” she continued, making me shudder. I was terrified by this woman.
“Uhm,” I mumbled, because I hadn't paid in two months. I am still unpaid from my work in the library where I work, so I am unable to provide any information, but I am aware that Madam Lory will not accept this as an excuse. Tssk, I think I should pack my belongings before she kicks me out of her house.
“Oh, why can't you speak? Cat got your tongue, or you don't have any money to pay! Remember, it's been two months! TWO MONTHS!” she emphasized as she raised two fingers in the air.
“I'm so sorry Madam, I promise I'll pay you the day after tomorrow,” I said sweetly, holding her calloused hand to show that I was serious about begging her to extend a few more days.
“You can't pass me like that, Ariella! I've told everyone, especially you…” she snatched her hand back and pointed to my brow. “I don't tolerate late payments, especially when it's been two months! Give me money by midnight, or I'll throw all of your luggage out first thing in the morning!” She threatened, leaving me dumbfounded at my door.
“Where am I going to get money right now? Aish,” I mumbled as I ruffled my unkempt hair.
“First, I ran into a slew of those creatures last night, and now I'm going to be homeless,” I groaned, slumping on my couch once more. I took my pillows and placed them on my face.
“Those dogs brought me terrible fortune! They brought me bad luck! Wahhhh! What am I going to do?” I blather again as my stomach growls hungrily.
I spent the entire day debating what to do because the burdens I was carrying on my shoulders were becoming heavier by the hour.
“The sun began to hide its light. Hmm, what if I escape and go to other places? I don't think those dogs will be able to track me down.” I continued walking back and forth in my living room, putting my hand into my jaw, thinking of possible ways.
“In this case, I'll be able to escape both Madam Lory and that icy dog.” I punched the air and dashed into my room to gather my belongings.
“I'm killing two birds with one stone,” I mumbled deviously, a smirk on my face. I threw everything into my suitcase without looking at what it was.
After nearly 30 minutes, I had two suitcases, two bags, and a sling bag. When I looked at my wristwatch, it was already 7 p.m., so I rushed out of the house and locked it.
I dragged the suitcases with my two hands, each bag on my shoulder, and the sling bag on my neck, displayed on my front.
I walked slowly, barely able to pull all of my belongings at once, but I made it to the road, where I decided to wait for public transportation or a taxi. After a few minutes, there were still no cars or other vehicles approaching or passing by, which alerted me.
“This is quite unusual; weekends are busy days and Sabbath day; how come there are no other people around?” I puzzledly asked myself, and my eyes nearly popped out of their sockets when I felt someone behind me.
That wolves' man or Madam Lory, either way.
I clenched my two hands around the suitcase handle, nervously anticipating what would happen. I dragged it all with me, walking slowly and with erratic breathing.
I walked nervously, looking back and glancing back a few times, but the shadows seemed to be adept at concealment.
I came to a halt and inhaled deeply with courage; when I turned around, two men in bonnets stood tall.
“W-who are you?” I inquired, restraining myself from answering. I saw a familiar silhouette from afar, making my heart beat fast.
This can't be.
"Who are you?" I asked while my heart was beating fast. I saw them once at Madam Lory's house, and their bodies seemed to be familiar to me. I have the feeling that they are her men sent to come after me.
“It doesn't matter who we are,” the shorter of the two replied, pulling out a sharp knife that sparkled in the moonlight. My breathing felt quickened, and I felt my entire body go numb. “Am I going to die this time?” I wondered as I watched them walk towards me. I panicked and walked backwards, but tripped over my luggage, causing me to fall on the floor, butt first.
“P-please don't hurt me,” I begged, but the bonnet man thrust his knife into my neck, and I felt the cold blade lash my flesh, erupting a horrified scream from my mouth.
“We won't hurt you,” he said, lifting my jaw with his knife, making me tremble in fear while his companion searched for my belongings, but he didn't seem to find what he was looking for. His gaze was drawn to my sling bag. “I think her money and valuables are in that damn bag,” the other remarked, grabbing and yanking it out of my head. I could feel my cheeks moistening as a result of what was going on. I just can't stop myself.
“Our little girl is crying,” the man with the knife remarked, mockingly laughing.
“Please, take all of my belongings but don't hurt me,” I begged, but the two of them burst out laughing.
“The money will be sent to our master, but our commission is a little bit low, right pal?” he asked his companion, who agreed with a chuckle and a nod of his head.
“How about we get this chance to be paid off the way we deserve,” he added as I gulped and fear gripped my entire system.
“N-no, please,” I begged, trying to get away from him, but the tip of his knife pierced my neck once more, causing me to feel the sticky liquid dripping.
“Shhhh, we'll take you to heaven,” the other said, bending his knees and kneeling in front of me to level the ground.
“NOOOOO!!!” I screamed, tears streaming down my cheeks, as I felt the fabric of my shirt ripped away, revealing my inner garment. I used my hands to barricade my body in them, constantly praying in my mind for someone to come to my aid.
I closed my eyes and shed a few tears. I heard a few heavy footsteps and some noise around me, but I didn't dare to open my eyes. I'm afraid not. I simply cannot. I hugged myself, putting my knees in front of my chest and sobbing uncontrollably like a baby.
I flinched as a warm hand tapped my arms, causing me to flinch, and pushed it with all my strength. I raised my eyes, but tears made them blurry.
“Don't touch me! You scumbags! You must die! You don't deserve to live! Don't you have a sister to do this for me? I won't let you use me for your own human flesh's desire!” I smacked and shoved whoever had attempted to touch me earlier. I screamed loudly while hitting him with my hands, but he wasn't fighting me.
I came to a halt and bit my lips, allowing myself to fall to my knees, but someone caught my waist and rounded my eyes.
“Get off me!” I yelled, striking his hand, which fell off.
“Are you finished?” asked a familiar, cold and domineering voice. I blinked and wiped my eyes with the back of my hand. My eyes rounded again, looking for the two men in bonnets, and I unconsciously found them on the floor. When I saw blood pouring from their heads and splattering on the cement road, I covered my mouth.
“W-what did you do to them? What are you doing here?” I asked, terrified, but he didn't even blink as he stared at me.
“Have you made up your mind?” he asked casually, leaving me perplexed.
“I'm not going to be a dog's mate!” I screamed, venting my rage at him.
“I'M NOT A DOG. WE'RE CALLED WEREWOLVES,” he stressed, but regardless of what he says, he's still a dog!
“Have you made up your mind?” he asked again.
“I-I…” I stuttered, still stunned by what had happened. “I haven't decided yet.” I replied honestly, lowering my head.
“Thanks for helping and saving me”. I sincerely thanked him but I got no response. He's still standing there, looking at me with cold and empty eyes.
“I-I should go now", I whispered, but I saw how his forehead creased after hearing my words.
“Where?” he asked again. Why can't he just shut up and never ask questions? I don't even know the answer.
“I'll find one”, a small forced smile formed on my lips. He has already saved me. I don't have any face to ask for his help again.
“Accept my proposal and you'll live in my house”, he offered, putting his hands in his pockets.
“I told you many times, I don't know what you are saying. Let alone, living with you? You aren't the same with me. I am different from you! It's impossible. Its—arghhh” I hopelessly explained to him, but he didn't even flinch nor change his mind.
“The next apartment is where my best friend lives. I'll climb into her room so I could enter", I suggested trying to get all of my stuff on the ground. The fabric of my shirt that was ripped off hangs on my chest. I grip the hem to avoid him seeing my naked body.
“Don't worry, I am not interested in a weakling's body, especially you", he mocked, undressing his black robe and stretching his arms to lend me his clothes.
I gave him a puzzled look, questioning why he was doing this, but he didn't utter even a single word. He looked at me and like zipping his mouth, giving me a sign to shut my mouth. I wear his robe that almost touches the ground, but no doubt it does not only cover my body, it also gives me warmth.
“Be my mate”, he said at nowhere, making me stop in my tracks. I don't know if it is because of what he said or because I'm too exhausted and have no energy at all.
I didn't bother responding to him because I was losing consciousness, my eyesight blurred in an unexplainable feeling, but before I did, I heard him say,
“No turning back, my mate.”
