Chapter 13: I'm Happy.

1004 Words
As if it was something so ordinary, I woke up with her in my arms. She was still sleeping soundly. Without making any noise I walked to the bathroom to take a quick shower.   It was only 8 in the morning. I didn’t have anything to do in particular and thus I started digging around the incident that forced me to end my career in military 5 years ago. I figured it won’t do her any good if I involved Kaira into this. So I and Liam headed back to our villa at the outskirts of the city.   The investigation and footwork which we have done for all these years finally helped us to identify the men whom I caught that night 5 years ago. It seemed like they belonged to Black Swan in simple terms they are a part of 2nd most influential Mafia in the Country Z.   While I was on the mission I was simply told that they belonged to a small gang who were pretty famous for smuggling, k********g, murder and much more to the list. I became curious as to why their identity was not revealed to me. Even though I didn’t hold a higher position I was still the Captain of the Special Forces!   I tried to contact my junior from the Special Force hoping he could help. Stan was a quiet and handsome man with black hair and brown eyes. He was on his late twenties. He was shocked to hear from me in the beginning but agreed to meet me immediately. We decided to meet at my villa partly because I couldn’t think of a place more secure than this one.   He arrived at my villa sharp at 11 am. Liam was also with me.   “Captain, is that really you?” He was thrilled to see me after so long. I nodded my head in affirmation. “We heard that you went abroad after that incident and never set foot in this country. Do you know how worried we were?” He looked genuinely worried as he took my hand into his. They couldn’t contact me as I changed my number to avoid any form of tracking.   “Sorry for not being in contact with any of you for all these years…” I couldn’t help but feel a little guilty. After all, these guys were like my brothers and sisters. We fought together in many dangerous situations and entrusted each other with our lives.   I asked him how the others were. Stan was a little hesitant before answering. “Well… After firing you, General personally appointed someone else as the new Captain and I must say, our team is lagging way behind. We are not like how we used to be.”   I was a little curious about this new captain but I kept my curiosity to myself and decided to ask him about the incident 5 years ago. Without beating around the bush I asked him directly.   “Can you help me with finding out what happened that night 5 years ago?” As expected he was shocked. He didn’t expect me to be digging about that case from 5 years ago. But within moments I could see in his eyes that he has made his decision.   “I will do whatever I can in my power to help you uncover the truth Captain.” I nodded in relief. I know I could trust Stan so it made me feel a little positive. Without wasting another minute I have given him the details which Liam and I have investigated for all these years. As expected he was shocked just like us to find that those men whom we caught were the members of Black Swan.   We decided to share the information on the 15th of each month and with that he left.   I wanted to know the reason behind my firing. First they wanted to throw me in jail but later they fired me. If their goal was to kill me they would have directly gone for my neck but till now that didn’t happen. Just what was their motive?   While I was completely lost on my thoughts, Liam bragged about his new girl that he got hooked up with.Girl…..??  A girl??    “Wait a minute…. How could I forget about that girl?” I jumped from my seat startling him a little.   That’s right there was a girl at the scene… But what happened to her? Why were there no records of her??   I looked at Liam and asked him to find the whereabouts of that girl from 5 years ago. My gut told me that she could also be someone who was involved in this…   It was already half past five in the evening. I got a call from the hospital that Raven was admitted it. It seemed like Kaira had really pulled some strings to push his name up in the list of patients in the wait list. I thanked the nurse for the good news as I gave a call to Raven.   “Hi brother!” He chirped with his energetic tone. I could figure out the he already heard the news. “How have you been feeling? Sorry I was too busy today that I couldn’t drop by for a visit.” I said apologetically. “It’s okay brother. I am fine. How is sister-in-law? I am missing her already! Tell her I am sorry for not properly welcoming her into our family.” “Haha! She is doing well. When you get better, why don’t you do that for her? I am sure she will be more than pleased. She also told me that she liked you.” He giggled at my words and asked me something which I didn’t expect.   “Are you really happy with your marriage, brother?” I didn’t know how to respond because I was not sure whether what I am feeling was happiness or something else. But I was sure about one thing. I felt comfortable being with her. Just the mere thought of her brings a smile to my lips.   “If what I am feeling right is is called happiness.... then I guess I am happy!"
