One Look then I die
Chloe Robinson was unhappy. She was running late for her dance class and it"s never a good thing for a teen queen to be late.
She learned that in Gossip Girl. Besides, if she is late, she bet that queen wannabe, her arch enemy Lucilla Matthew would steal the spotlight. Honestly, some people are so hungry for validation, they just can"t deal that they are not worth it.
Chloe constantly looked at her watch as she walked briskly under the shade of the wide spreading elm trees that flanked the sides of the walkways, making the walk shaded and cool.
She only had a twenty minutes to spare and a good one hundred fifty meters to cover to get from her current location to the physical education hall where he dance class is held every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.
She has no interest in dancing whatsoever. She feels that only plain looking people need to enroll themselves to this.
Because hey, if you don"t have the looks at least have some talent so you are not boring. Right?
Chloe was walking as fast as she could. She couldn"t make herself run as she feels it makes her look undignified.
A hundred meters was quickly covered which brought her close the old library. She needs to pass the old building to get to the dance class building. She was about ten paces from the library when she noticed that a grey figure was standing near one of the pillars.
The figure was somehow slouched and resting it"s back to the pillars.
This sparked Chloe"s curiousity.
"I wonder if I know who this is." She thought ," poor thing looks really sad."
Now, one thing about Chloe is that although she is a bit of a b***h she also has the kindest heart there is.
She walked on. Making a resolution that she would look at the person slouched there so she can identify him.
As she came closer and closer to the figure. She began to notice things about him. She realized that he was wearing a dove grey polo. He is not really slouching but was as if he was carrying the whole world on his shoulders.
The moment Chloe was walking directly in front of him. The guy raised his eyes and looked at her.
And in that split second, when his eyes meet hers.
Chloe was lost.
The eyes were dark and intense. The look he gave her made Chloe feel as if he was burning deep into her soul. Like he was digging into her inner most thoughts. And the feeling left her shaken and speechless.
She didn"t stop walking. It all happened so fast. She willed herself not to look behind. The mysterious guy did not follow her nor talked to her. But Chloe felt he had somehow branded her.
She knew she would, could not rest until she found out who he was.
She walked on. Down the rest of the walkway, up the marbled steps and into the cool interior of the wooden corridor of the Physical Education Hall.
Her hand to her heart, she was asking herself if that really happened. She still couldn"t believe it.
The class went by like a blur. Lucilla went up to her and whispered,
"You don"t look so hot, Queen bee." She snickered. "Anything the matter?"
Chloe took a deep breath and said in her most unaffected voice, "Lucilla, if you"re in my shoes and you saw your face, you would feel like throwing up too. "
Lucilla looked at her with eyes glinting and said, "Just you watch it."
As usual their dance performance beat Lucilla"s group"s performance. Seriously, that girl doesn"t have a single drop of talent.
After classes, she coerced her squad to accompany her back to the old library but there was nobody there. The library was already closed for the night.
So she and her friends just went straight to Violi"s Cafe.it was their favorite hangout after classes or during breaks so they can get some fries and milkshakes. And get updated with the campus gossip. Since nearly every clique has a representative eating there.
The place was unassuming. The furniture and fixtures we"re all white. Which gives it the look and feel of a laboratory. However, what it lacks in color in the furnitures. It more than makes up for in the decorations. Posters and pictures of the famous bands in loud splashes of color.
They choose their usual table, which is the one at the back which has perfect command of the cafe so they can see what"s going on around them.
Chloe sat at her usual seat which is a high backed chair with leather backing and complete with stud embellishments.
Aubrey March, her right hand bestie, asked her, "So what"s up with the library time at this late hour. I thought you told me you"d rather search by Google rather than sit in a place with musty books?" She said.
"I just thought I"d pass by and see the old place. Get a whiff of the mustiness." Chloe said evasively.
"If I tell her, she might think I"m weird." Chloe thought.
Aubrey looked at her long and hard and said, "There"s something that you"re not telling."
"What?!!!" Chloe said decisively,"There"s nothing to tell, Aubrey. Stop looking for things that are not there. Really." She said irritably.
Seeing that Chloe was getting annoyed, instead of wheedling her, Aubrey said, "Okay, gonna shut up now. Sorry."
Chloe smiled at her and said, "It"s not your fault Brey. It"s just a not-so-okay-day today. Sorry too if I snapped at you. I"ll tell you some other time, okay?"
"Sure." Aubrey smiled back at her.
The talk soon went to the current status of the campus heartthrobs. Who is linked with who?
The most talked about is Albert Cabrera. The President of the Student Council. He is also the President of the local chapter of the most prominent national brotherhood. He is a straight As student and handsome as the devil with his thick wavy black hair, reddish brown skin and a face that has round fully pronounced cheek bones. His eyes were always caught in a smile and as well as his full red lips. He has a Grecian nose and a body which is the envy of the old world Gods.
Albert also has a reputation which preceeds him. He is known as a rake, a womanizer, or a ladies" man if you will.
And right now, according to their neighbor at the other table, there is a rumor that he and Lucilla are hitting it off. Well, Chloe can"t say she is surprised. She knew Lucilla would stop at nothing to be Queen Bee.
After hanging out at Violi"s for an hour and no other news other than Lucilla"s latest mistake, Chloe decided to pack it up. When they walked out of the cafe, their respective family cars were already waiting at the curb. It"s highly unlikely that the town"s most prominent families would let their daughters walk home.
So she asked Aubrey, whose parents are not that rich if she would like to catch a ride with her. Since their other friends, Lourechelle Ebstein, Roma Marks and Marisa Fendergast were already tucked inside their respective cars.
Aubrey was thankful for the ride but she insisted that she be dropped off at their family restaurant at Kings Street since she has to help her Mom with managing the kitchen.
"I"ll see you tomorrow, Chloe." Aubrey said as she went out of the car." Thanks for the ride."
"Sure. Anytime, Brey." Chloe said as she waved goodbye.
After dropping Aubrey off at her family"s restaurant, Chloe went home to her family"s house in Spencervalle High Street. Spencervalle High Street is the name of the house and the surrounding land. The official address of that place is 1271 Bishop"s Lane Crescent. Her parents were in their ever always overseas trip. She was as usual alone in the house.
The maid, Julie, asked her if she wanted some dinner. But Chloe declined since she is not in the mood to eat anything.
"Thanks, Julie. I"m sleepy already. " She said. "I"ll just eat breakfast tomorrow. Goodnight."
And Chloe went up to her room to sleep.
But, she couldn"t. Whatever she do, she still can not sleep. She can feel his eyes. That stranger"s dark, deep and intense eyes burrowing deep inside her soul.
"I really need to find him." She said decisively. "I"ll start tomorrow. I will enlist the squad"s help."
And only then, was she able to close her eyes. Her dreams were peppered of the events of that day and wishful thinking for the future.
