Sunday afternoon, I was almost finished raking the leaves in the backyard when I heard my mother calling me. Turning, I saw her and Darren standing at the back door. “Darren’s here,” she said. “Thanks, Mom. I can see that,” I said as Darren approached. He looked handsome, as usual, dressed in dark jeans, gym shoes, and a dark brown suede jacket that looked great against his caramel-colored skin. “Let me know if you two need anything,” my mother said before returning to the house. “I hope you don’t mind me just dropping by,” Darren said, “but I saw your car out front and figured you might be home.” “I always seem to be here lately since I have no life anymore. Are you interested in helping me rake leaves?” He laughed. “Uh…no. I did my parents’ lawn last weekend, so I feel your pain.”
