GB
"I was already losing my patience with that rich girl. I want to get her, and I'm going to do it. I get what I want when I want, and she's not going to change that..." I huffed and went back to the party to get the car. I had to drag Lua and Sther out by their arms, put them in the car, and take them home. I left them sleeping in the living room because they were utterly drunk. Then, I went upstairs, took a shower, and went to bed.
The next day...
I got up and they were in the same state I left them in. I started pushing them. "Let’s wake up, you little devils."
Sther woke up with a groggy face, and I laughed. "Come on, Lua, I don’t have all day. You have to go to college."
"I don’t want to go."
"Oh, but you will. I’m not paying for no reason." She rolled her eyes.
"I’m going, Luh. See you later." Sther said, getting up. She glared at me, and I gave her the finger. I looked at the stairs, and Mirella was coming down, already dressed. She looked beautiful. Damn Gabriel, shut up. She looked at me and turned away.
"Lua, what are you still doing in those clothes?" she asked.
"Hangover, friend. Ever heard of it?"
"Wow, drank a lot?"
"Yes. By the way, where were you? You disappeared and didn’t come back."
"I left. The air was too polluted there." She said, looking at me. I gave her the finger behind Lua.
"Uh-huh. I’m going to get ready. Be right back." She went upstairs. I sat on the couch, and Mirella was about to leave, but I called her.
"Hey."
She looked at me.
"Remember you’re in my world now, and it seems you have no other choice."
She rolled her eyes. "Aren’t you tired yet? I’m not obliged to put up with you bothering me."
"Oh, you’ve grown a backbone now?"
She gave me the finger, and I laughed. "Rude rich girl."
"I’m not a rich girl, okay? Stop it," she said quietly.
"Drama again."
"Idiot."
"Respect me."
"Oh, sorry, your majesty, but I respect those who respect themselves." She left, slamming the door. I rolled my eyes, went after her, and saw she was already going down the hill.
"I’LL TAKE YOU. COME BACK HERE. IT’S AN ORDER!" She looked at me with the most cynical face in the world.
"GIVE ORDERS TO YOUR w****s, GB." She turned her back and kept going down. I laughed. "Crazy girl. I like her."
Mirella
I was walking to class, arriving only for the second period. I sat near Lívia, who looked at me with a "where have you been?" expression. I gave her a pissed-off look.
"What is it, Lívia?"
"Disheveled, unkempt, not even a little lipstick? Where have you been, Mirella?"
"I’m at college..."
"Exactly."
"Don’t bother me, Lívia."
"Okay... Shall we go to the mall later?"
"Can’t do it."
"Why?"
"I’m out of funds." She made an "O" with her mouth.
"Did your dad go bankrupt? My God, I knew that addiction of his would do that."
"Shut up, Lívia, it has nothing to do with that."
"Then what is it?"
"I just left home, okay?"
"And where are you living?"
"Guess."
"In Barra?"
"Dream on..."
"Tell me."
"Maré Complex, a well-known hill."
"IN THE SLUM?" she screamed, making everyone look at us. I rolled my eyes.
"Speak quietly, you crazy... I’ll be expelled if they find out I live in the hill."
"How are you going to pay for college?"
"By prostituting myself." I said, and she widened her eyes. I laughed. "Just kidding. I don’t know yet... I have a month to think about it."
"How did you end up there?"
"Because they were the only ones who took me in. Would you have done that?" I asked her, and she looked away. "I thought so." I turned forward and started paying attention to the class.
...break...
I dashed out of the classroom after Lua. As soon as I saw her, she waved at me, and I went toward her, hugging her. She hugged back, even though she didn’t understand.
"What’s up, Mi?"
"I’m just upset about something."
"About what?"
"My 'colleague' asked how I ended up in the hill, and I said you guys were the only ones who took me in. I asked if she would do that, and she stayed silent... silence says it all."
She nodded slightly. "Sometimes we think our friends are those who help us gossip and go shopping, but that’s not a friend, it’s just company for the good times... anyone can do that, Mi."
I smiled slightly. "I know... I’m scared, you know."
"Of what?"
"Today I have you, and I know somehow I have GB too. He helped me just like you did. But what about tomorrow? If I don’t have you, who will I have?"
"You’ll always have us, okay? Don’t think about that... Want to leave?"
"Very much..."
"Grab your stuff, let’s skip."
I laughed. "Awesome." I went to my classroom, grabbed my backpack, and we both jumped the wall, even though there were still two classes left. We went to the mall to eat and spent hours talking. I already had a huge affection for Lua and Sther too. I knew I could trust them. After hours of talking, we went to some stores and ended up running into Lívia there. Damn it.
"I thought you couldn’t come to the mall," she said cynically.
"And I really couldn’t."
"So what are you doing here with this..."
"This what, wannabe skank?" Lua said, approaching and attracting people’s attention. Lívia laughed.
"Look at what you’re becoming, Mirella. Hanging out with riffraff. What a fiasco."
I looked at her angrily. "You’re the lowlife, you phony."
"Showing your claws?" She said, staring at me. When Lua was about to go for her, I held her back.
"It’s not worth it, Luh. Just ignore that loser."
We turned our backs, but she spoke again. "Are you sure I’m the loser, Mirella?"
"In terms of material goods, you’re right, it’s not me... but in sentimental values, it’s definitely you."
We walked away, and Lua walked firmly. "You could have let me hit that little bitch."
"Relax, okay? You wanna end up in jail? Your brother would kill you."
"I forgot I’m not 15 anymore."
I laughed. "Forget her."
We went home. As soon as we arrived, Lua threw the bags on the couch, and GB looked at her.
"What happened? Did you pull someone’s hair today?"
"I only didn’t because Mirella stopped me." He looked at me.
"What happened?"
"Some stupid girl badmouthed the hill," I explained.
"And Mi defended us... she’s one of us." Lua said, hugging me. I laughed. BG gave me a crooked smile and nodded. I smiled back, and soon Lua pulled me to her room.
