CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE
Petra spent the night on the big recliner in Elias’s hospital room. Elias slept through the night, but she stayed wide-awake, watching his every twitch and squirm. It was the ideal time to update Mouzah and Maryam. Both were bombarding her with detailed questions. She responded to an email from Richard inquiring about her son’s condition, surprised at his impeccable timing since she hadn’t told him when the surgery was scheduled.
Sami popped in at nine in the morning and Petra completely missed him. She had snuck down to the chapel while Elias was asleep. The nurse told her of Sami’s visit when she returned and showed her the bag he had left in the room, full of toys and books. Petra contemplated calling Sami, then decided against it. Not a good time to mend fences.
