Violetta hurried her pace to avoid further punishment. But what punishment could be more than a father transforming into his bad side to punish the daughter he birthed. And even if she was wrong or committed the crime she was charged with, it wasn't still justifying to punish her by almost ripping her heart out of its ribcage.
She got to the principal office 's door, shooting her head in before the rest of her body. To her relief, he wasn't in the office giving her time to put herself together to find a lie to tell. Not necessarily a lie, but the truth without naming the culprit.
" They are all birds of the same feather" She murmured, recalling how the principal and her father were closed.
She sat on the nearest chair, tapping her foot. Every few seconds a stolen glance at the clock and then the door. Clock then door.
" I just took a 5 minutes nap " She defended herself when her eyes met with the hard glare coming from the principal in the photographs hunger gigantically on the wall. Not that he could hear her, she thought. But aren't werewolves very popular for their ability to detect sound? She thought again.
She tested her back on the chair, taking another quick nap before his arrival. She knew she shouldn't even blink her eyes as with every attitude there's always a punishment but again, it can never be like staying with the East hood. So she gave in to her slumber and away her soul wandered, to find her mother.
" Mum? " She called out, opening her eyes. She looked around but he hasn't arrived. She guessed it had been almost an hour since the Mr. Philip sent her out here, and with the smirked on Ellen's face, she had be f****d up.
From the massive desk, to the sculptures beautifully placed to give the room an artistic feel, to awards and certifications on the shelf, to the arranged books from great authors of the past, to the stamp that has the school names, they all breathed chaos.
She shouldn't have been sent to the principal office, why was she sent to the principal office?
The steady ticks of the wall clocks sync with her heartbeats, there was nothing to be afraid of. She was only going to be punished and embarrassed by the school.
This wasn't her first time being in the principal office and this won't be the last, thanks to Ellen, her darling step sister.
But despite the reassurance, she found herself in between pacing around between the door and the windows. She just couldn't sit, who in her right senses would have sat?
She stopped and picked up the brass figurine of the goddess Diana with her quiver of arrows, the der and the dent on the side of her head. It was a symbol of feminine power. The principal no doubt loved figurines and arts, but a female in power would never be in his agenda. He despised them, he believed they should remain a helper not the leader, and if he could stop all women from having a position or rank, he would.
Violetta recalled what happened back in junior year when Taylor and Samuel were competition for the position of class Representative. It was like yesterday, a Friday morning to be précised.
The tension was raised in the class of about fifty students then, everybody voted their favorite and by the jurisdiction of Southgate, the principal would endorse the class Representative.
" The winner is…." Mr. Adams called out from the paper, making everyone gasped. I placed my hands on Taylor's shoulder, stroking her back when she looked at me anxiously.
" You have won already… you know how Mr. Adams love getting us tensed?" I gave her a reassuring smile before focusing my gaze on Mr. Adams.
" Hey… what if I lose?" Taylor's voice came through again, her big brown eyeballs looking from Mr. Adams to the principal to Samuel.
" What if you win? " I rubbed her palm with mine before interlocking hands with her.
" You are going to win" I affirmed before returning my gaze back to Me Adam.
" Taylor Jake" Mr. Adams called out, initiating a round of applause. Taylor jumped up in excitement, hugging me in impulse, climbing the tables with joy while her supporters made jest of her rival, Samuel.
The election was a fair one, Taylor was clearly leading and even the dumb could predict she would win. She had the leadership qualities of a class Representative, she ensured everyone's assessment was done, she lead the practical, she stood up for the bullied, and with her beautiful smile anyone would open up to her.
" Silence" The principal instructed with his hands in the air. Murmurs began, the teachers and students were confused, what was wrong this time was the only thought in everyone's head.
" Why is the girl declared the winner?" He asked, his eyes boring a hole in Taylor's skull. The class murmured, everyone confused.
Soon the murmuring turned to noise, everyone reconsidering their opinions or adding more to it. But all of their conclusion was that Taylor won, she surpassed Samuel with 10 votes, so that made her the winner.
" Sir, she surpassed him with 10 votes, automatically making her the winner" Me Adams explained, but his face showed he was more confused himself.
" So what? " The principal said, clearing his throat afterwards.
" This is real life… no such thing as equal rights…. It never existed" He began, pausing to lay emphasis on each word.
" Equal rights is an illusion where people have delusion of women leading which is an allusion of those who didn't even fight in the world wars" He continued, looking at every person in the room to object.
Not that they couldn't object, but objecting is like having fire under your bosom, the principal would always come for them… literally.
" If you want to progress, never put a girl in high position because as small and innocent as they look, they have caused the falls of mighty men and empires" He added, walking towards Taylor. He ordered Samuel and her to stay in front of the class for easy demonstrations.
" You see the way she jumped when she was announced the winner? That's how you are going to jump for your life when she deals with you all" He said, facing Taylor.
He was destroying her self-confidence, letting her feel bad for having the heart of a lion that was hard to tame. And he succeeded, Taylor stepped back in fear, regretting ever taking the chance to let her voice be heard.
" I step down " Taylor cried, running behind Mr. Adams for protection. Mr. Adams nodded, understanding the principal point of view.
" Next time a woman competes with you, show her place. They are not created to lead, they are to follow behind no matter how smart they are. " He gave a dark chuckle when he saw Taylor trembling in fear behind Mr. Adams.
" So your new class rep is this young man here" The principal patted Samuel on the back before heading out with other staff members who closely followed behind without saying a word.
