Family Reunion

“We are not done here.” Bruce let go of Donald who dropped on the floor and gasped for air while he walked up to Lena who was still sprawled on the floor. He felt her pulse and after a careful observation, he realized that she had fainted as a result of starvation and hard labor. Without saying a word, he gently lifted her and carried her away while his enemies watched him until he was no longer visible to them. They were relieved that the episode had ended, but it didn’t mean that their quagmire was over. Bruce was certainly going to be back to find out how exactly his family was killed, and that meant that they were still unsafe and needed to find a way to protect themselves against his wrath. While Bruce was still on his way to the car, Xavier sighted him from afar and quickly ran out of the car. “What happened to her? Lena?!” He called out, but there was no response. “Get the door, Mr. Garcia. She is too weak and famished.” “Okay! Okay!” Xavier hurriedly grabbed the backdoor by the right and opened it without hesitation. As soon as Lena was carefully laid on the backseat, they got back into the car, and Bruce drove back to Flora Villa. Aria was standing along the avenue, waiting hopefully for Bruce to come back with her parents. As soon as she saw the car approaching from afar, she began to run toward it, ignoring the pain that she felt from the bruise she got from scrubbing the toilets in her place of work. Aria had taken multiple manual jobs just to enable her to pay off the debt that her father owed and free her son. “Father!” “Aria!” Daughter and father embraced each other tightly and wept in the arms of each other. “I am so glad you are well, my child!” “I am sorry, Papa! This was all my fault! I just wanted to help!” More tears streamed down Aria’s eyes while she struggled with the pain from the memories. “I am sure you meant well. All that matters is that we are together again.” Xavier caressed his daughter’s hair tenderly, but she had to free herself from his grip as soon as she saw her mother. “What happened to her?! Mama?! Why isn’t she saying anything?!” She panicked after shaking her mother but she remained unresponsive. “Relax, Aria. She is too weak to even talk.” Bruce carried Lena into the building while Xavier and Aria followed him at once. He placed her on the sofa in the living room and they knelt beside her, still worried because she was still unconscious. “Mix some glucose in water and give it to her, she will recover. She also needs to eat something as soon as possible.” “Where do I…” Bruce pointed at the kitchen before Aria could finish her question, and she quickly ran into the kitchen and returned later with a glass of water and a pack of glucose. She emptied the powder in one of the sachets into the glass of water and poured it into her mother’s mouth with the help of her father. Within a few seconds, Lena opened her eyes after blinking severally, and as soon as she saw her husband and daughter in front of her, she gasped in disbelief. It was the happiest reunion for the three of them, especially for Xavier who had not set his eyes on them for over nine years. He walked up to Bruce who watched their moment with admiration, wondering what it would have felt like if his own family members were still alive. “I know you. I remember you now. You are Bruce Spencer, you are the man my daughter saved ten years ago.” Xavier was shocked the moment he recognized Bruce. There were so many major changes in the way Bruce looked, but anyone who looked carefully would have been able to recognize him. “I am sorry for causing you and your family so much pain, Mr. Garcia. I promise to restore everything you have lost in a hundredfold.” Bruce apologized with a genuine expression on his face. Xavier could see the sincerity in Bruce’s eyes, and it would have been unfair for him not to let go of the past. “My daughter told me that she has a son for you. You are family now, I cannot hold a grudge against you.” “Thank you.” Bruce sighed heavily, glad that he was able to make peace with his conscience. After Aria and her parents had gotten themselves fed and changed into very pleasant clothes, Bruce took them to their home which had been locked up for years after Xavier’s father ousted him for defending a murderer and dragging the family name through the mud. Xavier and his family were shocked when he discovered that his mansion was no longer under lock and key, and he turned to Bruce for an explanation. “How did you get my father to unlock this place? How did you do it?” “I am the General, Mr. Garcia. Your father may be the Chief Councilor of Pinewood, but his authority doesn’t supersede mine, not even that of the Mayor. The entire Country of North Bermia is indebted to me.” Xavier couldn’t believe his eyes when he learned that Bruce was the Scarred General whose valiant stories had reached even the prison where he was kept. “You are the Vanquisher?” He asked, tears rolling down his face. “It’s such an honor being in your presence, General!” Lena and Aria joined Xavier and went down on their knees as soon as he did the same, but Bruce was quick to get them to stand. “You don’t need to do this. You are the reason why I am still alive. I will do anything to protect you.” They were marveled by the modesty of the General. The amazing stories of conquest they heard were jaw-dropping compared to how humble Bruce was. It was a great honor for them. Aria had to go back to Flora Villa with Bruce to take care of her son who was still sleeping while the medication Bruce administered worked on him. She had so many questions to ask Bruce, but she was only able to ask one at that moment. “Now that you are back, what do you intend to do? A lot has changed, and I am sure you still have more enemies lurking in the dark.” Bruce saw the look of concern on Aria’s face, but he didn’t look like he was going to flicker for any reason. “Let them come, Aria. I am here to take back everything that belongs to me, and I will stop at nothing until I have my justice.”
