“Silly.” Bruce scoffed, prepared to deal with the men who were trying to stop him from getting into the house.
With a single swing of his right hand and his fist tightly clenched, five men were already on the ground.
While the others were still struggling to even manage to throw a punch at him, Bruce crashed three heads against each other, and then he kicked five others, tossing them away to the ground.
More bodies thudded heavily until there was only one left. He couldn’t stand in front of the angry General whose aura sent shivers down his spine. He ran off at once, ignoring the grunt and whimpers of his cohorts.
Bruce marched to the locked entrance door with vehement steps. He sensed that there were men standing behind the door.
But that didn’t stop him from knocking down the wooden door. The guards behind the door fell with it, unable to fathom the magnitude of the General’s strength.
Since he was familiar with the building, it wasn’t difficult for him to locate the way to the room close to the balcony after he ascended the stairs.
William was still holding onto Lena and his cohorts surrounded him. But their confidence was shattered the moment they saw Bruce standing in front of them.
“How?! How was he able to go through those men?!” Donald asked, but there was no one to give him an answer.
William dragged Lena to the front, taking her as leverage against Bruce who took a step toward him.
“Let her go, Lord Reynold. Enough of this futility.” Bruce growled, his anger was rising the same way his impatience was increasing.
Lena couldn’t utter a word, her entire body was shaking as she remained under the tight grip of the old man.
William saw that two of his men were slowly approaching from behind Bruce, trying to take him unawares.
He and the others were hoping that they were going to grab him, but his instincts were sharp, and he grabbed one of them and tumbled him to the ground.
The other felt he was distracted, and tried to grab his leg, but Bruce got hold of his neck and threw him out through the door.
His body slammed against the rail of the balcony, and he crashed to the ground with it. The scene made Bruce’s assailants gasp, but William was not willing to relent.
“Stay right there or she dies, Spencer! I am not joking with you!” He threatened to cut Lena’s neck with the dagger he pulled out of his cloth.
The Scarred General had to be cautious at that moment. He saw that Lena was frightened, but there was no way he was leaving there without her.
He was a man of his word and Aria deserved to be reunited with her family no matter the circumstances involved.
“You think you can just come here and destroy everything we have worked hard for, Bruce! How did you even get out of prison?!” William fired. His cohorts turned to him with a shocked look on their faces.
“Grandpa? What are you talking about? You knew he was still alive?”
“There are a lot of things you don’t know, Lucas! The men you sent couldn’t kill him because of this woman’s family! I hope her husband rots in jail for defying me!”
Bruce was satisfied with the confession that went on at that moment. He already knew who had sent those men to kill him ten years earlier while he was in the City Penitentiary after being accused of killing the previous Mayor of the City.
His bloodshot eyes caused Lucas to take two steps backward, knowing that his conspiracy had just been uncovered.
“Mr. Garcia is out of prison, Lord Reynold. I freed him myself.” Bruce said calmly, a sneer appeared on his face.
“Who are you? This is not the man I married!” Stacy was shocked, she had to force the words out of her mouth, but it wasn’t time for Bruce to speak to her.
“You are a coward, Lord Reynold. You hold up a knife against a helpless lady. Why don’t you pick someone your size?”
“You are not my size, Spencer! You were still a baby when I took control of this City!” William struggled to strengthen his valor, but Bruce’s presence dwindled his efforts.
He was still busy trying to get a grip on himself when he saw that Bruce had taken several steps toward him, with only two inches of space between them.
“You are too slow.” Bruce forced the dagger out of his hand and freed Lena from him.
“Stand behind me.” He said to her, and she nodded like her life depended on it.
“How did he do that?!” Donald was the only one who could speak while the others were dumbfounded.
“It seems you know a lot of things, Lord Reynold. Let’s talk.” Bruce grabbed the old man by the collar of his robe and dragged him to a wooden chair. He forced him to sit down before he turned to face the others.
“Sit on the floor! All of you!” He pointed at a spot on the ground by a corner in the room, and they didn’t hesitate to obey him.
“Who amongst you is responsible for the death of my family?” He asked, but the four of them were busy exchanging glances with each other, waiting for who was going to speak first.
“I am not going to ask again.” He landed two heavy slaps on William, causing blood to ooze from his mouth and nostrils.
“It’s him! He is responsible for it! I only agreed to help him because Lucas wanted to marry his daughter!” William pointed at Donald who almost collapsed on the spot.
“It was an accident, Bruce! You know it! The fire that killed them was caused by an accident!” Donald trembled in shock, and his apprehension increased the moment he saw that Bruce was walking toward him.
“My family was in our resort, Mr. Beckham! How did you know that the fire was an accident?”
“I…I…?” Donald stuttered, and then he looked at his daughter as though he was hoping that she was going to say something, but she was too afraid to say even a word.
“It wasn’t my idea, Bruce! I swear! There are so many people involved in this! That’s the truth! That’s the truth!”
Bruce stopped right in front of Donald, and then he grabbed him and lifted him until he was about five inches above the floor.
He looked into his eyes as though he could see through his soul.
“My father speaks the truth, Bruce! Please, don’t kill him!” Stacy pleaded, her voice was shaking while she remained seated alongside Lucas who had eyes on his Grandfather who was panting on the chair he was seated on.
Suddenly, Lena began to cough, and the wheezing sound she made became more intense.
Before Bruce could turn to her, she lost consciousness and fell to the floor.
