His fingers tapped against the desk. “And you didn’t think to mention our history?” She met his gaze squarely. “I didn’t think it was relevant to the position.” A humorless chuckle escaped him. “Didn’t think it was relevant?” His eyes darkened. “We spent a night together, Amber. Then you disappeared.” A sharp pang shot through her, but she kept her expression neutral. “It was years ago, Eliot. I didn’t expect to see you again.” His jaw clenched, but he didn’t push further. Instead, he leaned back, his gaze turning calculating. “I need a nanny for my daughter, Lily. She’s five. Smart, independent, but… struggling after her mother left.” Amber felt a pang of sympathy.
