CHAPTER 1: The Blood Moon's Echo.

Lyra pulled her oversized denim jacket tight against the biting night chill. She sat alone on her wooden bedroom windowsill, her knees tucked tightly against her chest. Outside, the night sky was abnormal.

A deep, bleeding crimson light dominated the horizon, cast by the heavy glow of the rare Blood Moon.Down on the street, the neighborhood was completely dark. Everyone had locked their doors and drawn their curtains, superstitious about the eerie lunar event.

But Lyra felt strangely drawn to it. The crimson light washed over her small room, painting her walls in shades of scarlet. She stared directly at the glowing red orb, her chest still tight from the humiliation she suffered at school earlier that day. Tears pricked her eyelids, hot and angry, as the memories rushed back.Today had been unbearable.

Marcus and his crew had cornered her by the lockers right before third period. With a cruel grin, Marcus had snatched her backpack, dumping her history textbooks directly into a puddle of muddy water.

The rest of the class had just watched in absolute silence. No one ever stood up for her. No one ever helped.Lyra wiped a tear from her cheek, her fist clenching. She thought about how those bullies always got away with everything. Just that afternoon, she had seen Marcus stealing lunch money from a terrified younger student right outside the staff room. Marcus had slipped the cash into his pocket, completely unnoticed by the teachers. The world felt entirely unfair. She stared intensely at the center of the crimson moon.

"I wish Mr. Harrison would just walk out of his office and catch them red-handed," Lyra whispered into the quiet night. It was an empty, desperate vent to the sky.The moment the final word left her lips, the crimson light of the Blood Moon flashed violently.A sudden, deep vibration thrummed through the glass pane beneath her fingertips.

A wave of intense dizziness hit Lyra, forcing her to grab the window frame to keep from falling. Down the street, the shadows of the trees stretched and twisted toward the direction of her school, as if the moon itself was physically reshaping reality to answer her call.Lyra gasped, clutching her aching head. The sudden pressure in the air made her ears pop. Within seconds, the strange vibration stopped, and the night returned to a quiet, eerie stillness.

Lyra rubbed her temples, blinking at the sky."Get some sleep, Lyra. You're losing your mind," she muttered to herself. She climbed off the sill, pulled her blankets over her head, and tried to ignore the throbbing ache in her forehead. The next morning, the heavy red tint of the Blood Moon was completely gone. It was replaced by a regular, gray, foggy Tuesday sky.

Lyra walked through the school courtyard with her head down, her heart hammering against her ribs. Her mind kept racing back to the strange flash of light from the night before. Was it just a weird weather coincidence? It had to be. Magic wasn't real. She grabbed her notebook from her locker and turned the corner into the main hallway. Instantly, she froze.

Marcus and his friends were already crowded around a smaller boy's locker. Marcus was aggressively tearing through the boy's backpack, pulling out a packed lunch and a handful of loose change. The surrounding students looked away, hurriedly walking past to avoid becoming the next targets.Suddenly, the heavy wooden door of the staff room slammed open with a loud bang.Mr. Harrison, the absolute strictest vice-principal in the district, stepped out into the hall.

He adjusted his glasses, looking furious. He wasn't even supposed to be on hall monitor duty today. He stopped dead in his tracks, his eyes locking directly onto Marcus's hands, which were currently holding the stolen lunch and money.

"Marcus!" Mr. Harrison’s voice boomed down the corridor like thunder, echoing off the metal lockers. "My office. Right now."The entire hallway went completely silent. Marcus went pale, his jaw dropping in shock as he dropped the stolen backpack. He tried to stammer out an excuse, but Mr. Harrison pointed a stern finger toward the office, brook no argument. From the edge of the crowd, Lyra let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding. A genuine, nervous smile crept onto her face as she watched the school's biggest bully finally get dragged away to face real consequences. For the first time in months, a heavy weight lifted off her shoulders.

"Wow," Lyra muttered to herself, adjusting her backpack strap as she walked toward her first class. "That is some crazy, beautiful luck."She truly believed it was nothing more than a perfect coincidence. Mr. Harrison had probably just chanced to walk out at the exact right second.

Giddy with relief, Lyra enjoyed the rest of her school day, completely unaware that the Blood Moon was simply waiting for her next word.

The final bell of the day rang, signaling the freedom of the weekend.

Chapter 1 Continued: The Daughter Of The Blood Moon
Chapter 1 Continued: The Confrontation The final bell of the day rang, signaling the freedom of the weekend. Lyra packed her notebooks into her bag, feeling lighter than she had in months. She walked out of the school's front doors and stepped onto the concrete courtyard. The gray fog from the morning had thickened into a heavy mist, casting long shadows across the empty schoolyard. As she neared the school gates, a heavy hand violently gripped her shoulder. Lyra gasped, spun around, and found herself staring directly into the angry, bloodshot eyes of Marcus. His tie was undone, his hair was messy, and his knuckles were white as he clenched his fists. He had clearly just spent the last three hours in detention, and he was absolutely furious. His two usual friends stood right behind him, blocking Lyra’s path to the street. "You think that was funny, Lyra?" Marcus snarled, stepping into her personal space. "I don't know what you're talking about, Marcus," Lyra said, her voice trembling as she tried to step backward. Her back hit the cold metal fence. She was trapped. "Don't lie to me!" Marcus yelled, pointing a finger at her face. "Mr. Harrison knew exactly where I was. Someone snitched on me, and you were the only one watching me by the staff room yesterday. You told him." "I didn't say a word to him," Lyra pleaded, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird. "I don't care," Marcus hissed, his face twisting with rage. He reached out and forcefully ripped her backpack off her shoulders, throwing it into a puddle on the pavement. The zipper broke, and her school papers scattered into the wet mud. "You're going to pay for my detention, snitch. If I see your face near my locker again, I'll make sure you regret ever coming to this school." Lyra stared at her ruined belongings in the mud, tears of sheer anger and helplessness burning her eyes. The familiar, suffocating feeling of being weak and defenseless crushed her chest. She looked up at Marcus, her vision blurring with tears. She hated him. She hated how he made her feel like nothing. The heavy fog above them suddenly began to glow with a faint, ominous pink hue. High above the clouds, hidden from the daytime sky, the Blood Moon was still lingering, listening to its daughter. Lyra clenched her fists so hard her fingernails dug into her palms. She stared directly into Marcus's cruel eyes and let out a dark, quiet whisper. "I wish you would just fall on your face and break your stupid nose." The moment the whisper left her lips, a sudden gust of icy wind blew through the courtyard, scattering the wet papers at their feet. Marcus laughed cruelly at her tears. "What did you just mumble, loser? You think your words can—" Before he could finish his sentence, Marcus violently gasped. It looked as though an invisible rope had suddenly wrapped around his ankles and yanked his feet backward. He lost his balance instantly, his arms flailing wildly in the air. With a sickening CRACK, Marcus plunged forward, his face slamming directly into the hard concrete pavement. "Marcus!" his friends yelled, rushing forward in pure shock. Marcus rolled over, clutching his face in agony. Blood was pouring rapidly from his nose, dripping through his fingers and staining the gray concrete red. His nose was bent at an impossible, painful angle. He groaned in deep pain, completely unable to stand up. Lyra stood frozen against the fence, her mouth hanging open. Her eyes darted from Marcus bleeding on the ground, up to the foggy sky where a faint, crimson light flashed once through the clouds, and then disappeared. A chill ran down her spine, freezing the blood in her veins. This wasn't luck. This wasn't a coincidence. She had spoken, and reality had broken to obey her.
