Movie Night

Kai: Don't do that. You think you're a jerk now. This would just make you an asshole.

Leon: It's over. She said she done. So what's the problem?

Kai: Are you serious right now? You don't see what the problem is? She har-

I guess they finally sensed my presence. They both turned to look at me. I just stare at them before placing the cigarette in my mouth. Leon walks up to me and flicks his lighter. I lean forward with the cigarette. I start coughing. Last time Kai did that for me. Once, I stopped coughing. Leon forms a smirk.

Leon: So you smoke now? Where did you pick up this nasty habit?

Me: None of your business honestly. This is the second time I have ever had one.

Leon: I'm not judging. Hell, I like it. Got a bad girl vibe coming from you. I love a bad girl. They seem irresistible and it turns me on,

Me: Maybe that's what lured you into the pants of another girl that wasn't me. Maybe that's why we didn't work out, because I'm not a bad girl.

Kai tries his best not to laugh but ends up snorting, then bursts out laughing. Choking on his cigarette smoke. He's hitting his chest. I started laughing too.

Kai: Sorry not sorry. That was funny. Just never seen a girl resist his charm.

Leon: Shut up. She still likes it. Melanie, I love you.

I have started choking on my cigarette smoke now. Is he serious right now?! We never even got that far in the relationship. He uses a finger to make me look at him. I brushed his hand away. His touch no longer does what it used to do to me.

Me: Don't make me vomit. Besides, why are you still here?

Leon: I'm taking them home.

I raised an eyebrow and looked over at Kai. He looks at me, then leans back against the car. He runs his fingers through his hair. He has a look on his face that reads he would rather go anywhere else but there.

Me: Is that OK?

Kai: Are you asking, will we kill each other? No. Will we probably fight? Maybe. We're guys. It's what we do.

I raised an eyebrow at that answer. I laughed and shook my head. I finish up my cigarette. I walked towards them. Of course, Leon is smiling. I rolled my eyes at him. I headed over to Kai and gave him a hug. I leaned in and whispered in his ear, "If you do fight, kick his ass for me, and I'll give you a reward. But let's have some quick fun with him." I stepped back and looked him in the eye. I turn and chuckle. It's like his eyes are sparkling right now. He nods his head.

Me: But within reason.

Kai: Oh. Of course.

Leon: What'd you say to him?

Me: Nothing that concerns you. But if you must know, I need to find some lingerie for my date tomorrow and Kai volunteered to help me pick it out.

Kai: Can't wait.

I moved my fingers through Kai's hair and ran a finger down his chest. Leon rushes over and pulls us apart. We both burst out laughing. The look on his face. I wave bye as I head back inside. I looked back to see Kai looking at me and Leon looking at him.

Me: Don't make that face, it was a joke. I don't have a date. But the look on your face was worth it.

Today is movie night. Lilly and I are getting prepared for movie night. We headed to the store to grab some beer, liquor, and snacks. We check out and head home. Guys are already there. Lilly looks pissed.

Lilly: Any other day you guys are right on time, but you choose today to be early? And why is she here?

Standing next to Leon is Monica. I can't believe he had the nerve to bring her. She has a death lock on his arm. It's taking everything in me to not punch her and curse him out. Kai swoops in and grabs my bags.

Kai: Let's go and set up.

I followed him but looked back to see Monica glaring in my direction. I turned back around and continued to the elevator. Two can play this game.

Once Briggs, Lilly, Kai, and I reached the apartment. We started setting up. Lilly starts making drinks. I ordered the pizza. Briggs sets up the snacks. And Kai's browsing the movies. Finally, everything is set up. Lilly offers drinks and I down mine instantly. She hands me another. Monica and Leon walk in. I down that one too. Monica looks around the apartment.

Monica: Oh. Your place is lovely. Its so.....pink.

Lilly: Ya think?

Lilly is clearly annoyed. I downed yet another cup. I started to make another one. Both Lilly and Kai stop me.

Lilly: Hey, slow down.

Kai: Yeah. You'll make yourself sick or get drunk before the movie even starts.

Me: I'll be fine.

I made another cup. I went to sit down next to Lilly. Kai sits on the arm rest. Lilly scoots over so he can sit next to me.

Lilly: You are not sitting up your ass on my armrest.

Kai: My bad mom.

Lilly: Damn right. Mom would say the same thing if she were here.

They start laughing. The pizza arrives. I start to get up, but Kai stops me.

Kai: I got it. Did you pay by cash or card?

Me: Card.

Kai: OK, then I'll go sign. I'll handle the tip.

He comes back shortly with the pizzas. He goes and grabs some plates. Everyone digs in and we start the movie. With what's happened in the past few days, we decided to watch a comedy. We watch forgetting Sarah Marshall. All I feel are his eyes on me. I look over Monica is lying on his shoulder. He gets her attention and gives her a quick kiss. I look away. I get up and go make myself another drink. Leon follows.

Leon: What's wrong? You want your place back? Say the word and I'll throw her out. I miss you and will do anything for you.

Me: Really? That's so sweet coming. But coming from a lying cheater, it means nothing. The fact you moved on in a few days lets me know what we had wasn't real.

Leon: You never gave me the chance to make it real.

Me: You taking my virginity isn't the deciding factor whether our relationship was real or not. How we felt about each other did.

Leon: Baby, it would have just made our relationship better. More fun. Stronger.

He steps closer. He puts his arm around my waist and pulls me closer. And turns my face towards his. He was slowly getting close to kissing me. I could smell the alcohol in his breath. Right before our lips made contact, I stepped on his foot.

Me: Nice try. You really think I'd ever let you kiss me again. You're despicable. Stay away from me.

He grabs his foot. I pushed him out of my way. I grabbed Kai's hand, almost about to cry. He senses something off and he leads me outside. We smoke a cigarette. I pace back and forth.

Kai: Hey. You good? What's wrong?

Me: That asshole brought her to make me jealous and then had the nerve to try and kiss me just now.

Kai: Yea, we were talking about that last night. I told him not to bring her after what she did at your job. Listen. Just ignore him. The more you pay attention to him, the more he is going to press your buttons. Stop giving him ammo to use against you Mel.

Me: You're right. f**k him and f**k her.

We talk about parts from the movie that we found funny and finish up our cigs. We headed back up to finish the movie. I made myself and Kai some drinks and sat down closer to him. He puts his arm on the back of the couch. We continue the movie. Once again, his eyes were on me. I looked over and sure enough he was looking at me. Licking his lips. I hate his smug f*****g face. I said two can play that game. So let's play. I lay on Kai's shoulder. He seems shocked but allows it. Leon smile fades. He pulls Monica onto his lap, and she starts giggling like crazy. Lilly gets mad.

Lilly: Shut the f**k up! We're watching a movie.

Monica rolls her eyes at Lilly. She continues to giggle. The liquor has finally caught up to me. Leon is aware of what he is doing. Let's play the game then. I tugged on Kai's shirt. He looks down at me. I took his face closer and kissed him. It doesn't last long before he pulls away. He gets up and leaves. And just like that, I am sober again. Oh no. What did I just do? Leon starts laughing.

Me: I HATE YOU SO f*****g MUCH!

I rushed out of the apartment to go find Kai. He's outside smoking. He sees me and starts walking down the street. I chased him down and grabbed his arm.

Me: Kai. I'm sorry I don't know what came over me.

Kai: I know what came over you. I told you to ignore him Mel.

Me: I tried. I really did.

Kai: Mel. I don't want to be part of your revenge game with Leon. I am actually interested in you, but I will not be a rebound.

I let my hand slip from his arm to his hand. He looks down at our hands. I moved to stand in front of him. I grabbed his face.

Me: You're right. I shouldn't have done that. I'm sorry. Can you ever forgive me?

Kai: Yes. As long as you never do that again.

Me: I promise.

He smiles at me. I slide my hand from his face to his neck and pull him closer. I gave him a gentle kiss. It continues. He wraps an arm around my waist and pulls me closer. I'm melting in his arms. He starts to pull away, but I don't allow him. I part my lips slightly, offering his tongue an invitation. It's up to him whether he chooses to take it. He does, and I wrap my arms around his neck, so I don't fall to the floor when he lets me go. We both finally decide it's enough and pull away. He is still holding me by my waist.

Kai: Melanie. Why? That was the best torture I ever had.

Me: Why torture? I wanted to. Since we've been able to talk, I realize that we have more in common than me and that jerk did.

Kai: Because I didn't want to stop. I'll replay that moment over and over again.

Me: I would love it if we could.

I immediately covered my face and looked away. Trying to hide the obvious. I can't believe i just said that. He tells me to look at him and I do.

Kai: What are you saying?

Me: I guess I'm trying to say let's give it a shot. He moved on. So why can't I?

He grabs my hand and kisses it. The same way Leon used to. He pulls me close and tucks a stray hair behind my ear.

Kai: How about we take things slow? I'll stay tonight and tomorrow we can hang out.

Me: Ok. It's a date.

Kai: It's a date.
