The next morning, I woke early and decided to take a run to clear my mind.
Returning home, I found Reannah sitting at the kitchen table with Gram and Grandpa.
“I can’t believe you have the energy to run after how late we were out last night.” She said, sipping her coffee.
“I didn’t drink or stay out as late.” I said as I poured myself a cup.
“So what brings you here so early?” I asked, taking a big bite of a blueberry muffin.
“Do I need a reason to visit you?” She asked, grabbing a muffin herself.
Knowing Reannah, there had to be a reason to get her out of bed this early.
“Of course not.” I said, raising my eyebrows at her.
Gram smiled and she and Grandpa left the room.
“Ok fine. So last night you ran off and Liam’s friends started asking about you. In fact, he showed up at Liam’s this morning.”
“Who?”
“His name is Mo and he owns the club.”
“Mo?”
“Mohammad, but he goes by Mo.”
“Why was he looking for me?”
“Apparently he had been watching you all night and then you just took off. He tried to get Charlie to stop you from leaving but he wasn’t fast enough.”
“Charlie the bouncer?”
“Yep.”
“I still don’t understand why this Mo guy was asking about me.”
“You are so new to all this stuff.” She said, chuckling.
“What?”
“He was so into you. Any guy that even tried to dance with you was scared away by his bouncer last night. How did you miss that?”
I honestly had no idea what she was talking about. But to be honest, I had no interest in a man who couldn’t even speak to me all night long.
“I’m not interested.”
“What? Have you seen him? He is s*x on legs.”
I couldn’t even hold back my laugh. “Reannah, I just got divorced 2 weeks ago and let’s be honest he sounds a little possessive.”
“You know the best way to get over one man is under another.”
I couldn’t help but laugh at her, but I honestly had no desire to be under another man.
Chris’s POV
Two weeks since my divorce. The first few days, I didn’t realize how much I missed her, but it didn’t take long for me to realize how much I neglected her.
The first few nights, I was exhausted when I came home, but as soon I realized my home didn’t feel like a home. I usually enjoy coming home after a long day at work. Now I realized it wasn't the home I was coming home to but Miah. And now she was gone.
Looking around the room, my eyes fell on our wedding photo. She was looking up at me with so much love. I didn’t deserve her.
Maybe if I had just told her the truth the night I messed around with Claudia she would still be here. We could have gone to counseling. s**t, I would have done anything to keep her. Some people might ask why I just signed the papers and let her walk away. The reason? I never deserved her and I knew that from the moment she agreed to this marriage.
She is perfect. Beautiful beyond belief and honestly had no idea. Smart doesn’t even describe how brilliant she is at everything. Funny, caring, and thoughtful. The list can go on and on.
A knock at the door pulled me out of my thoughts.
Swinging the door open, my eyes landed on Claudia.
“Hey baby.”
“What are you doing here?” I asked, without allowing her to pass.
“I was talking to your Mom and she told me about your divorce. So I wanted to come over and make sure that you were OK.”
“I’m fine.”
“Can I come in?”
“Not tonight, Claudia. I’m not in the mood.”
“I could put you in the mood.” She said, running her hand down my chest. I could not help but feel sick standing there with her.
“Listen Claudia, I said I wasn’t in the mood.”
“How about we just talk?”
I really just wanted to be alone but I realized she wasn’t leaving. Stepping aside, I allowed her to enter my apartment.
“Why do you still have her stuff all over the place?”
“That is none of your business.” I could feel myself getting irritated with her. Over the past 2 weeks, she has been calling and messaging me. I now I remember why I stopped seeing her in high school. Had our family not been friends, I don’t think I would have ever seen her again.
“I’m just worried about you. I can’t believe you didn’t tell me.”
“Why would I tell you? Due to a stupid drunk moment with you, I lost my wife.”
“It wasn’t stupid. It was us coming back together again.”
“I don’t plan to be with anybody for a long time.”
She looked pissed for a minute, but it didn’t seem to last long.
“But we used to be so good together.”
“That was in the past. We broke up for a reason.”
“We can make it work. We have both grown.”
All I could do was shake my head.
“Can I get some water?”
Rolling my eyes, I went to the kitchen and when I came back with a bottle of water she was standing by the door.
“Thanks babe. Listen, I know you need time, but I am not giving up on us.”
I still remained silent.
She quickly kissed my cheek before heading out the door.
Miah’s POV
I’m not sure how Reannah and Nicky talked me into going back to the club but here I was on a Friday night getting ready.
I pulled at the bottom of the super short dress Reannah insisted I wear.
“I think this is too short,” I said, looking at Nicky and Reannah.
“Nope, it looks like it was made for your body.” Reannah added happily. “Now let’s go!”
Again, we found ourselves being greeted by Charlie.
“Good to see you again Miah.” He said, giving me a quick wink.
Once inside the bar, Reannah grabbed my hand and pulled us toward the VIP area.
It didn’t take long for me to realize Liam was in the VIP area but he was not alone. Sitting on the couch was Mo. But he was not alone.
Sitting on his lap was a petite brunet. She had on a dress shorter than mine and her burst looked like it was about to bust out of the top.
His eye traveled the length of my body as I entered the area. He said something to the girl on his lap and she quickly stood and walked out of the area. The moment he moved, he smirked at me.
Within seconds, I realized the only place for me to sit was next to Mo. But instead of giving him the satisfaction, I turned and smiled at my girls.
“I’ll see you on the dance floor.”
A few hours later, I was still swaying my hips to the music. The entire time, Mo had been watching me. But I really needed some water so I made my way back to the VIP area.
Plopping myself down next to Mo, and within a moment a server brought me a coke with two cherries.
“Mo, this is my friend Miah. Miah, this is Mo.” Reannah said, smiling at both of us.
Mo quickly took my hand and placed a kiss on the top.
“It’s a pleasure to finally meet you.”
All I could do was smile.
“So you enjoy dancing?”
“I….I do!”
“How about you dance with me?”
I swallowed the lump in my throat. I wasn’t sure if this was him really just wanting to dance or if he meant something else.
He stood and put his hand out for me to take. I slowly put my hand in his and he pulled me to my feet.
We didn’t move to the main dance floor where I spent most of the evening, but to the other side of the VIP area and a smaller dance floor.
As if planned, a slower sensual song came on and Mo pulled me flush against him.
One of his hands found its way to my hip while the other pulled me closer and kept his hand on the small of my back. Being in his arms felt so foreign.
His piercing dark eyes never left my face. Our bodies seemed to move in sync and I found myself having a good time.
Half way through the second song, one of his bouncers came and whispered something in his ear.
Without hesitating, he took my hand and led me to a set of stairs just off the VIP dance floor. He pushed open the door at the top and the two of us and the bouncer walked into the room.
