Chapter 5

Our driver dropped us off in front of a long line that didn’t seem to be moving and everybody was waiting for a large bald man to let them through the ropes. Reannah jumped out first and headed right for the front of the line. The large man scooped her into his arms the moment he saw her. “Reannah love! It has been too long.” He said, setting her down gently. “I know. I know!” “Charlie…you know the girls, but this is our friend Miah.” “Hi.” I said softly, feeling small next to Charlie. He wrapped me in a hug. “Any friend of Reannah’s is a friend of mine.” I watched as she flirted for a few moments longer before he opened the ropes and the four of us walked in. The air was thick from the moment we stepped inside. I looked around the dark room while listening to the base thumping. The girls dragged me to the bar. “Are you sure you don’t want anything?” Nicky yelled over the music. I shook my head no as my eyes traveled over the dance floor. To get to the dance floor, you had to take stairs down to the floor, leaving a platform for people seated around the dance floor an easier view of those dancing. Once my girls had taken shots and grabbed drinks, we made our way to the dance floor. All over, people were grinding on each other and some were even making out as if they were the only ones in the room. I couldn’t help but smile and shake my head. I don’t know if I have ever felt that free. However, once we were on the floor, I started swaying my hips to the beat and allowed the music to take over. Feeling like it was an out of body experience, I felt the music almost as if it was pumping through my veins. Becoming oblivious to my surroundings, I was just enjoying the moment. Until Karie yelled at me, snapping me back to reality. “Looks like somebody can’t take his eyes off you.” She nodded to the seats almost directly in front of us. Sitting with his legs spread wide and slightly leaned back in his chair was a handsome dark-haired man. From this distance his eyes even looked black. He had a very sharp jaw and a perfectly trimmed goatee. I watched him as he sipped his drink and his gaze never left me. Even from his seated position, I could tell he was tall and built and, gosh, was he sexy. He never moved from his spot and I was too new at this clubbing stuff to understand if I was supposed to make a move. So I continued to dance as I saw the smirk on his face. Not sure how long I had been dancing when Karie and Nicky dragged me back to the bar. I was hot and I’m sure my skin looked as if it was glistening from the sweat. “Do you want a coke?” She asked. “Yes, with two cherries.” The bar tender was quick to get our drinks and we found a nearby table. “Where is Reannah?” Nicky nodded to the dance floor where she was grinding on a very muscular and tattooed man. “Don’t think she will be coming home with us tonight. She has been talking to him for about 3 months now. She says it’s casual, but I know she really likes him.” Karie added. “She looks happy.” Pulling my eyes from Reannah, I couldn’t help but look toward the tables where a tall, dark, and handsome person was sitting. There he was again staring at me. Again, not knowing what to do, I smiled at him. Only to receive another smirk. Rolling my eyes, not even caring if he saw me. I turned my attention back to Nicky and Karie. “Do you ladies want to dance?” I asked, ready to ignore the man who kept staring. Honestly, I was only divorced for two weeks. Why do I even care if a man is watching me? Even if he is unfairly sexy. “You know I am!” Nicky said, jumping up and grabbing our hands. Pulling us to the dance floor this time out of eye shot of the mystery man. At least, I could no longer see him. That doesn’t mean he can’t see me. A few more hours of dancing and I was exhausted, hungry, and ready to go home. A few men had tried to dance with me but almost as soon as they started they walked away. I’m not sure if I was bad at dancing or maybe I gave off a vibe. But I almost felt like a third wheel. Karie's fiancé had joined us and Nicky had managed to find quite the attractive man to dance away the night with. “Hey, I’m going to head home.” I yelled to Karie. “Do you want us to take you?” “No, I’m sober and it won’t take long for me to grab an Uber.” To be honest, I needed the fresh air. I waived bye to Nicky and Reannah as I made my way out of the club. I was surprised to find the large bald man still letting people in to the club. He nodded to me as I waited for my Uber. Just as I was walking away, I heard his phone ring only to hear him respond to the caller. “She is getting into what looks like an Uber or Lyft.” Assuming it was Reannah checking on me, I didn’t even look back. I jumped in my ride and was only my way home. Once home, I quietly let myself in through the back door. I will be closing on my new house next week. I couldn’t wait to have my own place. After raiding the refrigerator, I made my way to my room. As badly as I wanted to pass out, I decided to take a shower first. After a shower, I curled up in bed and as much as I had enjoyed dancing, I realized the night only made me feel worse. What was so wrong with me was that nobody wanted to dance with me. Ugh, what am I 16? It doesn’t matter. I had no plans to return to the club any time soon.
