Chapter 3

1128 Words
Walking into Park Place, my anxiety was off the roof. What if she was only meeting with me to save face? Our families ran in the same circles. That sort of thing happens when you are sent to a private school. Maybe she heard about my divorce and was here to gloat. She told me I was making a mistake marrying Chris, but I didn’t believe her. I told her she was jealous and just didn’t want me to be happy. My stupidity shocks me sometimes. Looking around the room, my eyes fell on Reannah. As soon as she saw me, she started waving like crazy. I realized she wasn’t alone. At the table were Nicky and Karie. I walked to the table and Reannah jumped and wrapped her arms around me. Before I could react, I found myself wrapped in a hug by Karie and Nicky. “We have missed you so much. It’s about time you called.” Nicky said, sitting back down. “I’m so sorry.” Tears burned to come out. My father raised me not to cry. He would always tell me to use that emotion to make myself stronger, but at the moment I felt like I was losing. “You don’t have to be sorry. We are just happy to have you back.” Reannah said, smiling at me. “Damn girl, you look good.” She added, grabbing my hand and making me spin around in front of her. “Let’s order so you can fill us in on everything we missed over the past couple years.” Karie added, waiving over the waitress. Plopping herself in the booth and sliding over for me to sit next to her. “We really have missed you.” Karie said, giving me her award-winning smile. We spent the afternoon catching up. Karie was currently engaged with no wedding date set but she was happy. Reannah was still single as ever and loving every moment of being single. And Nicky had been through a nasty break-up. She had been dating her now ex for 3 years when, out of nowhere, he broke up with her. He was a fool. Nicky was not only beautiful but smart and funny. In fact, I would say she was one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. Her Mom was a model and Nicky could have easily followed in her steps. She was tall and sender with jet black hair and beautiful brown skin that made her green eyes even more green. After an amazing lunch, the four of us found ourselves standing in the parking lot not wanting to say goodbye. But we knew we needed to, since Karie had plans with her fiancé and Reannah had a date. “Let’s go out next weekend.” Reannah said as she unlocked her car. “I’m game,” Nicky chimed in. “Yes, we can hit that new club downtown.” I have never been to a club. I got married right out of high school and spent my entire college experience coming home like a good little house wife. “ OK yeah I’m in!” I finally added in. “So what are your plans for tonight?” Nicky asked, looking over at me. “Maybe watch a movie or two. Go to bed early.” “Yeah, that sounds good, with some Chinese?” “That sounds really good.” I said, nodding my head. “Great! I rode with Karie but we can grab you some clothes and you could come back to mine.” “I would love that.” We crawled into my car and headed back to my grandparents'. Chris’s POV Friday had been a s**t show. Once investors found out that my company hadn’t merged with Cameron Corp, they started to pull out. I was lucky enough to salvage most of the repercussions, but I was exhausted. I barely remember getting home last night and getting back up at 6 to start working again didn’t help. By the time I got home on Friday night, I was a zombie. Here it is 7 am on Saturday and I was answering the door to somebody banging on it. “WHAT?” I yelled as I ripped open the door. “What the hell is going on with the company?” My father bellowed as he pushed past me, followed by my mother. “It’s under control.” I said, walking to the kitchen and starting making coffee. “What happened with the merger?” “It didn’t happen.” I really didn’t want to talk to my parents about the divorce right now. I knew it would set my Dad off. “Why didn’t it happen?” He grumbled. “And where the Hell is Miah?” “She isn’t here.” “We can see the honey. Where is she?” My mom asked. Running my hand through my hair, I sat down defeated. “She left ma…. I….She….I cheated and she found out. Instead of the merger, she gave me divorce papers.” “Please tell me you didn’t sign the papers.” My Dad said, his face slowly turning red. “What was I supposed to do? If I had tried to fight it she could have taken everything.” I couldn’t understand why my parents were so upset. They were never very nice to Miah and always loved Claudia. Not that I wanted to go with Claudia and I wasn’t sure what her intentions were either. “Boy, do you understand her net worth?” “Yes Dad, I have been married to her for the past 5 years.” “You have no idea.” “Can you work it out?” My mom had the nerve to ask. “I already signed the papers and I doubt she will ever forgive me.” “You should have hid your indiscretions better.” My father said with disgust. “IT WAS ONE REALLY, REALLY STUPID MISTAKE!” I yelled, losing control. “Then fix it.” My father said before storming out of my house. The second they left, I threw myself on the couch wanting a little more sleep when my phone started going off. Could this morning get any worse? Claudia: Hey lover! Can you get away tonight? Chris: Not tonight Claudia: Come on just for a little bit? I can’t get you out of my head. Chris: Not tonight I really didn’t want her to know Miah and I were divorced. I still didn’t understand why I let Claudia give me head. It wasn’t even that good. Turning my phone off, I closed my eyes, finally getting some much needed sleep.
