Chapter 96: The New Legend

We started living together as friends for 1 month and half, and it's astonishing how well the two of us operate together. We are not having any difficulties, and we have excellent communication. She is quite skilled at playing and hence earns a lot of money. I'm continuing my career in the Arrow Void, and my goal is to become a legend so that I may afford my own home. Even if there is no hope for me and I am already planning to die, I am investing so much in this life. Chitose continues to perform in Block Party, but she does so for enjoyment and has no intention of becoming a legend. She simply enjoys playing games while earning money. She followed through on her commitment to me. She assists me in making money, which is beneficial.

However, even when we step outside and into different lobbies, we are still cautious. She disguises herself with cloaks in case the people seeking her have already arrived in this kingdom. I only wear the cloak to keep Bara and Katsumi at a distance. I'm not ready to see them yet. I'm still nothing more than a poor person. I want them to see me when I've already accomplished something so they won't belittle me and I can make them proud. I'm tired of being out of their league and want to compete on the same level as they do. I've never heard anything about them, although I occasionally see them completing tasks in the main lobby when I go out. They are quite busy.

They are presumably so preoccupied that they have forgotten about me. I'm in such a foul mood. I feel sorry for myself that people may easily forget about me and go on with their lives as if I never existed. Isn't it ironic that I'm acting this way when I'm the one who chose to leave them? Well, I'm the one who abandons them, but it doesn't make it any less painful. It's evident that I did it because I'm in anguish and there's no way I can stay there, especially since she's planning to marry Darius. I'm hoping she's fine right now. I hope she is now content with her life. Even if we are separated, simply knowing that she is happier with him will make me ecstatically pleased. At the very least, she appears to be happy and healthy.

When I see her again, she will most likely be married to Darius and have a family. Chitose had already completed her preparations. "Are you all set now?" she inquired. I simply smiled and answered, "I am always ready." We headed to the main lobby, where she wore her cloak to disguise her face. We headed to the Arrow Void lobby, where a large number of people were already waiting for the results. They're undoubtedly wondering who today's new legend will be. It's my hope that it'll be me. Even if I don't become a legend, I'll know that I gave it my all for the entire month in order to do so, and I'll just try again next time. "Are you worried?" she inquired. Well, I guess I'm a little jittery. "Do I appear nervous?" I inquired. "You do," she answered with a giggle.

My hands and cheeks are dripping wet. She puts her hand on my shoulder. "Don't be concerned; simply trust yourself. I believe in you, and we know you gave it your all even if you didn't win "she stated. With those comments, she's simply attempting to console me. "Are you saying that so I won't feel terrible if I don't succeed in becoming a legend?" I inquired. She pinches the lining of my cheeks so hard that it hurts. "What are you trying to say with that? I simply want you to feel confident, "she stated. The leaderboard is about to refresh in a few seconds, and everyone's attention is drawn to it. As soon as they see the new leaderboard, everyone starts shouting in delight. Chitose leaps up and punches me in the shoulder. "You pulled it off, Takahashi!" she shouted. When I look at the leaderboard, I'm taken aback by what I see, and I still can't believe what I'm seeing. Right now, I'm probably dreaming. "You've become a legend!" Chitose remarked.
