CHAPTER FOUR

1240 Words
Rose POV “Rose what have you done?" Mom croaks, her voice scratchy as she tries to push herself up. “You don't have to worry mom." I murmur, placing my palm on her back to help her up. After I signed the contract, he had her moved to a private hospital and she is being prepped for surgery so her bone marrow can be changed. He also took the liberty of moving me into his penthouse where he insists I will be living with him for the next year. I refuse to let my family come stay with him so he got us a new apartment for my mom and brother. “Don't tell me that, how were you able to afford all these?" she asks, insisting I tell since the moment she woke up. “I just made a little deal is all." I say, trying to get her off my back. “Just tell her the truth already." Paul chips in, throwing his arms in the air as he shove chips down his wife's mouth. We are currently in the hospital with mom and she is to go into surgery in two days. I have been with her since I signed the contract which was three days ago. “Rose, you know I won't be able to stop worrying so please just tell me." she pleads, placing her shaking palm over mine. I shift in my chair, unable to look her in the eyes. My mom and I have always been close and I don't lie to her ever. “I went for a job interview and the CEO offered to clear all my debts and cover your surgery if I agree to marry him for a year so he can get his inheritance." I ramble, blurting out everything so I can finally breathe. “What? What man would do such a thing?” she gasps, her grey eyes darkening as a frown pulls up her face. “Nicholas Blaine, CEO of Savy Tech aka her childhood love–” "I swear to God I will strangle you if you don't shut the hell up." I bark at Paul who of course just bursts out laughing. "Rose, is this true?” My eyes stings as I lower my head, pressing my lids together before I nod slightly. “Oh dear, how are you feeling? You don't have to do thi–” "I am fine, whatever happened between us was in the past. I have moved on, I can tolerate a grown baby for a year. Just one year and all our worries are gone.” I am not quite sure if I am trying to encourage her or myself. Buzz. Buzz. “I have to take this." I murmur, sliding out of the chair as I swipe green the exact moment I step into the hall. “Are you done running?" “Good evening to you Mr Blaine." I grit out, the way his voice lingers in my head already pissing me off. “Cut the crap. You need to do better than that if we are going to prove to the entire board and my mother that we are in love." I nearly gag at the word love. “Well no one is here so I don't have to pretend that your entire existence doesn't revolt me." I snap, rolling my eyes even though he can't see me. “I don't have time for this. My driver is outside, I already have some ladies waiting for you at home. Get dressed, we have a gala to attend and all the board members will be there." he instructs, his voice cold and lazy like the last thing he wants is to speak to me. " You can’t jus–” I am not done talking when the call ends with a beep. My fingers tighten as my eyes redden, " Arrogant, stupid, egotistic jerk. How dare he hang up on me?” I bark out, causing the people around to turn to me. I shake my head, pulling my lips into a smile before rushing in to tell mom and Paul that I have to leave. "Be careful honey, I don't want to see you hurt.” mom says, her eyes soft with love. My throat clogs as I press her hand, before heading out. My family means the whole world to me and if it means having to marry my arch enemy then so be it. ~ "Ma’am you look glorious." Marina, the stylist quips, her face pulled up in the most charming smile. I smile back thanking her as I look at myself in the mirror. I do look glorious, I don't recall ever wearing something so beautiful. The silver gown clings to my skin showing every dip and curves. I am not a fat girl but I am not slim either, I am thick in my hips, ass and boobs so the dress really shows a whole lot. My hair is in a beautiful updo, some of the strands falling down making my grey eyes shine brighter. The dress is matched with silver heels and purse. I do look beautiful. “We have to go now." Of course the devil just can't let me have this moment. I turn on my heel ready to lash out, only the sight in front of me causes the words to choke in my throat. There he is. Dressed in a silver suit that matches mine, no tie and the first two buttons of his shirt are open giving us enough to want more but not enough to look indecent. His chocolate hair is gelled to the back, the suit doing no good to hide those muscles. Damn he is so handsome. "Even with clothes as expensive as these you still reek of poverty and ugliness.” he snorts, looking at me like I am nothing but trash. And here is the reason hating him is so easy and flawless. “Let's go." I murmur, not ready to respond to him or his snarky comment. The drive there is as silent as a graveyard with both of us on our phones all through. When we finally arrive he steps out of the car muttering ‘do not move.’ “Don't tell me what to do next time you idiot." I bark at him the moment he opens my car door. “You should be grateful someone like me opens a door for a wench like you." he grits out, pulling his face into a smile as cameras start clicking off. My entire body stiffens when I feel his palm on my waist, leading me forward. “You have to look relaxed and not as stiff as a board if we eat them to believe this.” he says, leaning down as his fingers brush a strand of hair off my face. My lips part, unable to look away from his eyes as I take an involuntary step forward. “Ahhhh!" We are both snapped out of the haze by noise. I take a quick step back mentally slapping myself for such nonsense before turning to find out what is going on. My entire being freezes up as my eyes land on the sight before me. “ What the hell is she doing here?" I murmur, knowing at this moment that everything is about to go wrong. Shit!
