CHAPTER THREE

Nicholas POV “Are you being f*****g serious?" she gasps letting out a breathy laugh as I tilt my head down to stare at her. Her face brightens as she laughs, her hair bouncing while she lets out that ungodly snort that has no business coming out of a lady’s throat. She hasn't changed. After all these years she is still the same, still beautiful as ever. My face hardens when that stupid thought crosses my head. There is nothing beautiful about this deceptive and cruel woman. "Are you done?” I ask, turning around as I move back to my seat lowering myself on the soft furniture. " Wait? Are you being serious right now?” she barks, throwing her arms in the air as her jaw tightens. Angry. She is angry. Good. “Do I look like I am joking?” I ask, my jaw ticking in annoyance from being in her presence too long. “My father wrote in his will that I must be married for at least a year before my thirtiest birthday or else all my inheritance goes to charity. And I turn twenty nine in a month's time. It's quite an arrangement of survival, all your debts will be cleared. All you have to do is sign a contract to marry me for a year and after I get my inheritance we come up with a reason, divorce and you get an extra ten million dollars after the contract is over.” I explain to her, watching different emotions pass through her face in the split of a second. She still wears all her emotions on her face, it's pathetic. "No.” she says, causing me to rear my head backwards. "What did you just say to me?” “I said no Mr i***t. I would rather burn than to marry a traitor like you." she grits out, her face burning as she turns on her heels. "I think you mistake me for yourself.” I grit out, enraged that she has the audacity to call me such names when she cheated on me. “What the hell does that mean?” she barks, snapping around to glare at me. "You will be back." Is all I say before she walks out. “Have the receptionist give her my card and she will call me back today." I say, my lips tilting up into a filthy smile. “What are you planning on doing?" Simon asks, narrowing his eyes at me as he slides into the chair in front of my desk. “I knew she would do this. So when she gets home, meets her brother and belongings outside with her mom unplugged from treatment it won't take her a second to accept my offer.” I let my lips stretch out in a small smile. "Seriously man? You just couldn't wait a week?” he asks, furrowing his eyebrows at me. " No, I don't have that time. She deserves it all and more.” I grit out, my fingers forming a tight fist as that familiar pain stabs at my chest. She will pay for everything she did to me, for cheating on me and for breaking my heart. "Why not just go with any other girl the–" “Any other girl will fall for me and I do not have the time for such attachment. Rose is perfect for the deal, we are each other so there is no way it's not a win win. The board is on my neck, my mother is on my neck. I will not have my inheritance go to charity." I tell him. Simon Dean, my partner s***h best friend. A red head with an anger to match when someone succeeds in getting him there. Simon has been my friend since first year in college when we accidently bumped into each other. Turns out he was also an heir for his father's wine company which he is currently the CEO of but no one can tell because he is constantly here in my office. “Don't you have a company to run?" I ask, cutting him off before he can even speak. “Fine. Don't say I didn't warn you." he scoffs before leaving. I let out a deep sigh as I rested back in my seat. Once upon a time I was very much in love with Rose Macaulay, everything was perfect and we were happy. Until she cheated on me a day after her birthday, I saw her kissing that slime in her living room. I have never felt such pain in my entire life and even though I left without a word I expected her to call or even come see me but she didn't. Too happy with her new fling to care about me, after a week of waiting I took the opportunity my dad gave me and left for the city. She cheated on me and never for one day cared or even reached out. She lied. She lied about loving me, about wanting to spend the rest of her life with me. Everything was a lie, all she wanted was the luxury life I gave her. A lying, deceitful, gold digging b***h that's what she is. I learnt the hard way that love only brings you pain and since then I stayed away from any relationship and kept with flings. Now seeing her again, she hates me calling me names meant for her and her alone. I have no choice, I have to get my inheritance and she is the closest thing I can use to get it while serving her a taste of her own medicine. I shake my head, digging back into work and it takes the buzzing of my phone to drag me back to reality. My fingers curl around the device as I swipe green. “I will do it. I will marry you." Rose's shaky voice carries through the line, the edge breaking like she is in tears. “Good." is all I say before ending the call. I should be happy, I should feel overjoyed that I finally caused her pain and tears. So why is my heart heavy and the thought of her crying stings when it should not. “Sarah." I call out, slamming my laptop shut. “Yes sir." a chubby lady rushes in, pushing her skirts that never quite fit her down. “Cancel all my appointments for today and call my lawyer to tell him to meet me in my penthouse immediately." I tell her, rising to my feet as I drape my jacket over my shoulders not acknowledging her response. I have a life to ruin. Before I get to my penthouse Rose is already there dressed in a worn-out sundress that somehow still looks good on her. Snap out of it. “I see the i***t lives." That's the first thing that comes out of her lips the moment I step out of the elevator. “Welcome to your new hell Rose." my lips curls up in a smirk as her face falls.
