“What the hell are you doing here?" I grit out, pressing my fingers into a fist as the strings of the bag digs into my skin.
“Is that anyway to greet an old friend." he smirks, tilting his head to the side as those chocolate eyes darken by the second.
Nicholas f*****g Blaine.
The same man that shattered my heart and had the audacity to hate me for it, ten years.
Ten years since he cheated on me and sent me a f*****g break up message over a text with no explanation, nothing.
He was so cruel that he did it on my birthday. I cried so much that I never thought my heart would recover from it.
Now here he stands talking to me like we are anything but enemies.
“I owe you no greetings, you owe me a new dress." I grit out, wanting to scream at him then plunge my fingers into his eyes.
“And you owe me fifty thousand dollars." he barks, nudging his head to his shattered screen.
“Go burn in hell."
I thought with every curse I laid on him, if I ever saw him again he would be miserable but it seems like it worked the other way around.
Because standing before me the Nicholas of his teen is gone, replaced by a giant man with a stupid smirk that I want to wipe off.
And why the hell did he get this handsome?
“Be careful Rose, you never can tell." he says, running his eyes down my body like I am some rag before turning on his heels and stepping back into his car.
What? What the hell?
“Stupid f*****g Blaine. I hope you die on the road." I mutter under my breath, my chest pounding from the way he looked at me.
This can't be happening to me, tears stings my eyes as I make my way back home.
The sounds from cars and engine all fading into the background as all I can think of is how much he hurt me.
And he dares to act like I am some filth, he dares to look at me like that.
I swear to God if I set my eyes on him again I will literally kill him.
That fucker.

"Sis for the umpteenth time you look amazing. Stop fidgeting.” Paul says, smacking my palm away for the hem of my dress for the fifth time.
I let out a shaky breath, "It's an important meeting Paul, I can't afford mistakes.” I tell him, looking at my reflection in the mirror once more.
I managed to tame my dirty blonde hair into a tight ponytail and the dress fits my skin like a glove, the heels are shaky but I can manage.
“You will get the job sis. They would be a fool not to accept you." he assures, his grey eyes piercing mine as he nods.
“I can do this. Once I get this job, everything will be fine I promise." I tell him, hope swirling in my veins once more.
I have to get this job.
“You will get it." he says, totally confident in me.
With one last look, I grab my purse that is peeling at the edges before stepping out of the apartment.
“Savy Tech please." I tell the driver once I am safely inside.
“Yes ma’am." he responds before driving off.
My legs couldn't stay still the entire ride, not even when I got to the company or I sat waiting for my turn.
Now I walk out of the interview, steeling my face as I make my way towards the elevator.
“Miss Rose Macaulay, I am sorry but on seeing you physically you don't match the standard we are looking for." she had said it so flawlessly as she looked at my wrinkled purse and shaky heels that won't keep me still.
I knew I had what it takes to get that job yet one look at my outfit I was shut down.
How do we ever get rich if no one even gives us the chance?
I let out a shaky breath as I step into the elevator willing myself not to break down.
"Miss Rose, hold on.” a voice calls out, snapping me out of my thoughts as I raise my eyes to see a man get in the elevator before it shuts.
“The CEO has requested to see you." he says, not sparing me another glance as my eyes widens in shock.
The CEO?
He clicks the top floor and the elevator moves, going up and up alongside my nerves.
“Sir, may I ask why th–”
“No, it is for his personal reason. I am just his friend." he cuts me off, his tone so rude I have to take a look at him again.
He has dark hair, dressed in a black suit, his skin tanned, lips luscious and kiss worthy.
"Such a rude personality for such a handsome face.” I mutter under my breath, only realizing he heard me when he lets out a choked laugh.
" I apologize. I didn't mean to be a rude man with a handsome face.” he says, his lips stretching into a beautiful smile.
I am about to comment on it when the elevator dings open.
"This way please.”
I exhale and follow him, my heart thudding loudly as I wonder who the CEO is and how the hell he knows about me to the point of wanting to see me.
The man wraps his fingers around the door knob and pushes the door open before stepping aside for me to pass.
My entire body goes still as I step into the office only to meet with those chocolate eyes that stirs something inside me that it should not.
"Nicholas? What the hell are you doing here?” I can't help but blurt out as I step further into the room but refuse to go close to him.
I take in the office.
The entire place is larger than our entire apartment, his desk is set beside a floor to ceiling window, the couch is pushed to the end and the coolness of the room feels so nice.
"I am the CEO, what do you think I am doing here?” he snaps, eyes chilling as he pushes his chair backward so he can manspread.
“Wha–how?” I try to scramble my thoughts.
I never knew he was the CEO or else I would never have come. I know I need money but I would rather die than to work for a cheat like him.
"I have a preposition for you.” he says, not responding to my stutter, causing the man behind me to chuckle.
A what?
“What stupid preposition? And who the hell even says prepositions anymore? Can't you be normal and just say I have a deal for you?" I ramble, my eyebrows furrowing as irritation burns in my chest.
“I see you haven't changed.” he murmurs, slowly pushing himself up to his feet as he stalks towards me.
My eyebrows wrinkle as I tilt my lips up in disgust, the ego rolling off him nearly knocks me off my feet.
“I see your ego has doubled, could you give me some space your breath stinks." I say with the sweetest smile on my lips.
He narrows his eyes at me, “I am very sure you are speaking of yourself because what the hell are you wearing? You reek of poverty and it's not just your mouth." The harshness in his tone causes me to flinch a little as his words hit harder than they should.
“Come on dude that's hars–”
" Leave us Simon.” he growls, not taking his glare from my face.
"He stays, I don't guarantee your life if no one is in the room. Who knows I might mistakenly stab you.” I grit out, glaring right back at him.
“Like those feeble limps you call hands can do anything to cause me harm." he sneers, eyeing me.
My heart burns as my eyes redden, “I hate you Nicholas Blaine." I let out the words I have longed to say to his face for years.
“Feeling is mutual. Now my preposition." he says, dragging his last words just to irk me.
“What could you possibly have to offer me?"
“Your loans, bills, rent, everything you owe will be settled all you have do is simple.” he pauses causing m
e to step back a bit
How the hell did he know about all that?
“Marry me."
“WHAT!!" I scream, my eyes literally bulging out.
Has he gone mad?
