Chapter 22 Late one night, Michael heard a knock on the door to his cottage. It was the young archaeologist, Dmytro. The two had never spoken privately beyond a simple hello and mundane words about archeology. “I’m sorry to bother you.” Dmytro looked nervous. “But I need to talk to you about the dig site.” “Come in,” Michael said. Dmytro took a seat on the sofa as Michael offered him a beer. “What’s on your mind?” Dmytro took a long drink of the beer before speaking. “The site troubles me. A lot.” Michael sat facing him. “I’m not surprised. It feels haunted.” Dmytro’s eyes widened. “You feel it, too? Thank you. I was afraid you’d think I was crazy. I wonder if we shouldn’t abandon it.
