Chapter 1
My stuff got chucked out like trash by Lana Torres.
"You just lost your kid. Bad vibes all over you. Better find somewhere else to crash."
The door slammed shut in my face.
From nine at night till three in the morning, I just stared at that massive eight-hundred-square-foot mansion in front of me.
I opened the door, walked in, and flicked my lighter.
"Let's all burn together."
In that deafening blast, I saw Jay down on one knee. The huge wedding. The way his face lit up when he found out I was pregnant.
I saw the overturned tanker at the intersection. Little Maya, never coming home.
I saw Jay not giving a single damn about Maya's death.
I saw the security footage from the station, less than a hundred yards from where Maya got hit.
Jay was holding hands with Lana and some little girl, older than Maya. The three of them, all smiles, happy as could be.
When it happened, Jay caught a glimpse of Maya. A crowd gathered fast. He didn't even look back.
Only the little girl turned her head to stare.
Upstairs, someone started screaming, blood-curdling.
I closed my eyes.
Jay. You ruined every single one of us.
